Meet Baxter 🐾 Baxter is a sweet, affectionate boy who takes his job as a professional snuggler very seriously! Give him some attention and he’ll happily soak it all up. And if you stop petting him before he’s ready, don’t be surprised if he gently paws at you to let you know he’s not finished yet. ❤️ Baxter loves being outside, enjoying tasty treats, and having a good chew toy nearby. He’s also a great little travel buddy who rides nicely in the car and walks well on a leash. Baxter enjoys the company of other dogs, but he’s just as happy hanging out with his people. He would do best in a home with another friendly dog to keep him company and help him feel comfortable. When meeting new people, Baxter can be a little timid at first, but it doesn’t take him long to warm up. Once he does, his affectionate personality really shines! Baxter is crate-trained and stays comfortably crated when his people are away. He’s a loving, easygoing companion who would make a wonderful addition to a family looking for a loyal cuddle buddy. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. She weighs 54 lbs. and although is shy at first, she is super sweet. She loves being with her people. She is available after 9/28/26. Meet Smiles!Smiles is a sweet, sensitive summer-child. He is the definition of "submissive". His first instinct when something spooks him is to roll onto his back and give his belly like he's a possum playing dead. This is NOT an invitiation to pet his belly - this is Smiles saying, look, see, I'm not a threat, I'm just a baby, leave me alone, please don't bully/eat me!Despite being seven years old, Smiles IS a baby. A big baby. The biggest baby in all the land. He's a 44lb lab mix and he's desperately seeking somewhere safe, and quiet, and his. First things first, the negative - Smiles has a bite history. Per animal control, the bite was VERY minor. In stereotypical canine fashion, Smiles bit the mailman. Again, we will reiterate...Smiles is terrified of life. He would sooner play possum than snap but, like anything with a mouth and teeth, if body language is ignored and if boundaries are pushed, there is ALWAYS the potential for a snap/bite. He would not do well in high-energy homes with a lot of new people in and out, a lot of comings and goings, and a lot of general chaos. He would do best in a quiet, adult only home with experienced dog owners. He DOES do well with other dogs and loves to play with them! While he has not shown any red flags towards cats, we would prefer a home without them. Smiles is timid. He is nervous. He is the cowardly lion in a dog suit. When he likes you and starts to trust you?Oh, he is a LOVE 💜He's decent on a leash, loves plush toys, and is remarkably photogenic.
