Story
We got Dixie as a puppy in 2019. Her birthday is Jan. 28, 2019. Her shots are not up to date as of May. She has been spayed and has a microchip. She does well with other dogs, including going to kennels and day camps. She does well with cats. Dixie is good with children. She does seem to have anxiety and can be skittish at times. She has springtime allergies but they seem to calm with OTC allergy chews. She loves to run and play outside. She enjoys a walk and does well on a leash. She is kennel trained and does not mind going into her kennel. She eats dry food and enjoys chewing on bones. Dixie loves to cuddle up with us. We will provide new owner with any paperwork and supplies we have.

Story
Freyja is an owner loving high energy dog who can get rowdy and rambunctious. She is house trained and crate trained. She generally has been able to be around other animals all this time even cats. I’m unsure of her exact age due to getting her from someone who no longer wanted her as a puppy due to her playful gentle nature and didn’t have papers for her. She should be about 5 years old. I am looking for a home who is able to accommodate her high energy and want to run and play with a fenced yard.

Story
Officially she's Oprah. Around here, she's become Millie.Whatever you call her, you'll never have to wonder whether she'll be happy to see you.The moment Millie spots someone new, her tail starts wagging. She happily makes her way over, hoping for a few kind words, a gentle scratch behind the ears, or simply the chance to be close. She has an easy, affectionate way about her that makes it feel like you've known her for years. Despite everything life has thrown at her, Millie has never stopped believing that people are good. Our best guess is that Millie is a Labrador/Poodle mix with a soft, wavy coat that will benefit from regular trips to the groomer to keep her looking and feeling her best. The truth is, Millie hasn't always been treated with the kindness she so freely gives. She was found wandering one of our local beaches alongside another dog. Both girls were underweight. Both had damaged teeth. Both had mammary masses. Based on their condition, our veterinarian believes they likely spent much of their lives being bred before they were abandoned when they were no longer useful.Since then, Millie's story has taken a much happier turn. Thanks to the incredible team at Penn Vet, she underwent surgery to remove her mammary masses. We're thrilled to share that her biopsy results came back benign, and she has fully recovered and been medically cleared for adoption.Millie also spent time in a foster home while she recovered, where she continued to prove what we had already seen at the shelter: she's an incredibly sweet, gentle companion who simply loves being with people. Whether she's joining you for a walk, following you from room to room, or settling in beside you after a long day, she's happiest when she's with her people. For what may have been the first time in her life, Millie now gets the chance to be chosen simply because she's Millie—not because of what she could provide for someone else.We think that's long overdue. Story
Meet Xena! Xena is a sweet 4‑year‑old Lab mix who came to us after her family could no longer care for her. From the moment she arrived, she made fast friends with our staff—she’s the kind of dog who lights up a room just by walking into it.She’s currently spending time in our A‑Dorm with one of our volunteers and has been doing wonderfully. Xena has lived with both dogs and cats before, though she didn’t always get along with them. During her dog test here, she showed a bit of reactivity toward another dog, so we’re taking things slow and paying close attention to her comfort level.Because of this, we believe Xena would thrive best as the only pet in the home or with a calm, well‑rounded dog who won’t mind giving her the time and space she needs to understand that new friends are safe. She wants to be social—she just needs a patient companion to help her feel confident.Xena is affectionate, people‑oriented, and eager to bond. She’s ready for a family who can give her stability, kindness, and the chance to blossom into her best self.Xena's adoption fee is $175, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful.
