ABOUT LEVI
Levi is a 2-year-old mix breed hoping for his fresh start! He came to HAP when his owners were moving and unable to bring him with them. Understandably, after being raised in a home, shelter life has been a bit overwhelming for him. While he is a friendly guy, we noticed he was becoming increasingly stressed and anxious in a kennel, leading him to show behaviors that were not true to his character. To help him shine, we relocated him to a private room near our offices, and noticed a major shift. Where Levi was once pacing and barking in a kennel, he was now able to settle in and relax. As a young dog, he was accustomed to a more active lifestyle, so we connected Levi with some volunteers in our Doggy Day Out program, providing him a much needed break from the shelter altogether! Levi has THRIVED outside of the shelter, letting us know that his nerves really are due to this loud, busy environment. Here's what a few volunteers had to say about him:
"Levi and I beat the heat today with a shaded walk along James F. Hall trail. We detoured onto campus for some people watching and a much needed roll in the cool grass. He did awesome in the car and only barked when a group of people passed right outside the window as we were parking. He was very squirrel-focused, as usual, but seems to understand when I tell him to leave it and redirect. (He does give a crazy sassy side eye though). He also knows “up” and has an impressive vertical! I was glad that Levi got some extra time outside in the sunshine today!" - Emma
"So lucky to get to take Levi out for the day! We took him to white clay creek for a 3 mile walk. He was super eager to get out there and kept us moving. He explored by the water a little bit but wasn’t the biggest fan. After we finished up our walk, we stopped for a pup cup on the way back. He was such a sweet boy who gave lots of kisses and warmed right up. Hoping he finds his forever home very soon!!" - Averie
"Although I've done a DDO with Levi before, today I went and just spent some time with him. Levi one of the sweetest and cuddliest dogs. He LOVESSSS to just put his body into you and get head and body rubs. We spent some time outside walking before it started raining bad and he did a great job (like usual). When we came back inside, I stayed with him for about 30-45 minutes and I just relaxed on the floor while he played with his Kong and we listened to Olivia Dean. I love spending time with him because he's truly so sweet and loving. I really hope he gets adopted soon because he deserves a loving home!" - Erinn
"I had a lovely day with Levi! He's such a happy and loving dog. We started the day with a walk around the neighborhood. Levi really loves being outdoors and is an avid sniffer! He walked pretty good on the leash. Levi loves wildlife, but as long as you hold his leash firmly, he's fine. He just barked at wildlife and other dogs, he never tried to pull me toward them. Levi was very well behaved in the house. He loves snuggling up and cuddling on the couch. He’s very sweet. Levi enjoyed playing with some toys. He also enjoyed a nice nap! We ended the day with a walk around The Green at UD. He was very good during the walk. Levi is such a good boy and I hope he finds the perfect home soon!" - Zoe
"Yesterday I had a great day with Levi! We went on a walk at Kells park and then got a pup cup from Starbucks! He was amazing around other people and made sure I knew when he needed a drink of water. He didn't pull on the leash at all and was great in the car!" - Sam
"Spent the morning with baby boy Levi! He is so sweet and energetic in all the best ways. He was super playful when I brought some of the toys out and when we went for our morning walk. Since it was pretty hot in the afternoon we spent the rest of the day inside enjoying some peanut butter, toys, lofi music and balcony view of the squirrels." - Avery
"Had lovely Levi today! We went for a slow if long hike. He might have fun as a jogging partner. Bicycles on the trail didn't phase him much but he was interested." - Heather
If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
