Story
Hi there, I'm Jesse, a happy-go-lucky Dakota pup hailing from the Lake Traverse Indian Reservation. I was living in a small city impound where space was limited, and I was facing the heartbreaking possibility of euthanasia simply because there wasn't room for me. Thankfully, a kind rescue stepped in and saved me from that fate. I'm about 6 months old and bursting with energy, just like any typical youngster. I'm a playful and social butterfly who gets along great with other dogs. I'm also curious about the resident cat, but I'm not a chaser – just a friendly sniffer. I've even met some kids and am learning to play gently with them. Sometimes my enthusiasm gets the best of me, and I might accidentally bump into the little ones a bit too enthusiastically. I'm still a young pup and learning all the time, so I'm looking for a patient and active family who can provide me with plenty of exercise and training. I'm eager to learn and eager to please, so I'm sure I'll be a wonderful companion with a little guidance. Jesse's adoption fee is $425 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccines, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue's care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website. www.northernlakesrescue.org

Story
Robert is a total goof that’s all legs, love, and laughter! This 8 month old lab mix may seem a little derpy as he’s growing into those long legs of his but he’s actually quite intelligent! Robert catches on to things quickly and has already learned a handful of commands including “sit”, “(lay) down”, “shake”, “spin”, “wait” (used before meals and treats, “ok” to release), and “gentle” when taking treats. He also knows “come” and is working on mastering his recall. He’s working on “stay” and learning that the command “enough” during play means we’re done. He can be quite mouthy when he wants to play, so he’s learning to use his “off switch” when it becomes too much. Robert lives with other dogs (big and small) in his foster home as well as a couple cats and gets along with everybody. He’s a snuggler…and a bed hog! He’ll take up the entire bottom half of the bed all night long and insist he’s the only reason your feet are warm! Robert is crate trained and knows what “kennel up” means. He’s (mostly) house trained and will stand by the door when he needs to go out if you catch his cue in time. Like your typical lab, he loves water and playing fetch! Robert has the best puppy dog eyes and truly wants to please his humans. He’s going to make someone very lucky! Robert’s adoption fee is $425 plus MN tax which covers his neuter, vaccinations appropriate at the time of adoption, microchip and any additional medical care he may have needed while in the rescue’s care. We are a foster based rescue, we do not house dogs at a facility. Age and breed are NLR's best guess as we often don't know who or what mom and dad are. Story
Meet Velma, a 6 year old 55 pound petite Lab mix with a heart as big as her smile! This sweet girl is potty trained, enjoys all the treats, and loves lounging on the couch just as much as she loves her daily walks. She’s done great living with other large dogs and has shown patience and adaptability once given time to settle in. Velma would thrive in a calm home with a patient, experienced adopter—preferably without cats—and would do best with older, respectful kids. If you're looking for a loyal, loving companion who enjoys snuggles and strolls, Velma might be your perfect match!   Age: 6 Breed: Lab Mix Weight: 56 lbs Kid-friendly: Recommend older considerate children Dogs: Yes Cats: Recommend a home without cats, as she loves to chase them. Story
Bandit is a 10-year-old, 68 lb Lab mix with the heart and humor of a 7th-grade boy — goofy, loving, and learning every day. He’s loyal to his circle and eager to find his forever family who’ll include him in all their adventures. Bandit thrives on activity — running next to an ATV, swimming, or playing fetch are his absolute favorites — and after a good workout, he’s the happiest, most relaxed boy around. He’s great with other dogs (he currently lives with two seniors), does well with kids, and loves meeting new people. Potty trained and kennel trained, Bandit does fine in the house for several hours and sleeps soundly in his own bed at night. If you’re looking for a loyal, joyful, active companion who’ll make you laugh and love you endlessly, Bandit’s your guy!
