Story
Hi, my name is Ruckus, I was dumped at the Highland Armory/Highland Recreation Center during really bad storms and rain for 4 days. The sweet family who rescued me was told I’m a pitbull/lab mix. I am just over a year old, and they were told my birthday is 04/26/2023! At my previous home, I used to live with three other dogs, but they would beat me up and bully me, so I’m a little timid about new dogs. Though I do love people, big or small, I love them all. I love to give kisses and cuddle up with you every chance I get, I’m not the best in a kennel as I get lonely and have separation anxiety. My rescue family tried introducing me to their dogs, but I’m still scared and growl when I see them, so it’s best I’m the only pet in your home! I have shown that I’m teachable and love to do tricks for treats! I am house trained and have not had an accident at all with my rescue family. I’ve shown my rescue dad that I can sit, give paw, lay down, tug on toys, and even play fetch. (though I’m still figuring out that I need to give it back) I have been to the vet and have had all of my shots, I just need a couple of boosters! I have been tested and do not have any intestinal parasites or heart worms. I have started taking Simparica Trio to keep me from getting heartworm, fleas, ticks, or other intestinal parasites. I’d love to find my foster or furever home. Especially if my rescue family can stay in contact with me! Adoption fee $175 Adoption Application: mercyrescue.org

Story
Meet HeidiApprox. 3 years old | Lab Mix | Searching for Safety and LoveHeidi’s story is one that breaks your heart before it mends it. She was dumped on a rural back road like trash alongside seven other family members of varying ages. No warmth, no explanation, no familiar face — just confusion and fear. It is clear these dogs were neglected, used, and forgotten by the very people who should have cared for them. But that is where their story begins to change. When Heidi first arrived, she was unsure of every move, every sound, every hand reaching in her direction. The world had only shown her cruelty. But with time, patience, and gentle handling, she has learned that people don’t always hurt you. Now, she has grown deeply attached to the kennel techs who work with her each day — and the feeling is mutual. Her and her family have become fast staff favorites. It’s impossible not to fall in love with souls like theirs… dogs who have been given nothing but would give everything for a safe hand and a quiet home.Heidi is learning that:• Leashes mean adventure, not fear.• Food will come every single day.• Warmth is promised.• Love is real. She is gentle, soft-hearted, and incredibly deserving. Once she trusts you, her love is the kind that sinks in deep and stays forever.Heidi is now available for adoption, and we are dedicated to finding her a family who will never let her feel discarded or unseen again. She will make someone a phenomenal companion — loyal, grateful, and devoted in a way only a once-broken heart can be.Puppies 6 months and under are typically $200 and dogs from 7 months to 6 years are typically $100.00. The adoption fee may be higher or lower than stated however, and is dependent on many factors including age, behavior, medical condition and demand. All dogs 7 years and older are free under our Saving Seniors program. Story
Meet Homer 🤍Some dogs carry their story in their eyes, and Homer is one of them.Homer came to us with what we believe were seven members of his family, all of them abandoned on the side of a rural road with no one coming back for them. At first, he was unsure and quiet — leaning on the only comfort he had left: the other dogs who survived alongside him.But even in those first frightened days, there was a softness in him. A hope.Homer is about 3 years old, a Lab mix with a tender, thoughtful soul. With time, patience, and gentle hands, he has begun to bloom here. And now? He’s walking beautifully on a leash, confidently exploring the world he once thought was too big and too scary. He has also learned that toys can be fun, especially when shared. Most importantly — he’s learned that people can be safe.Homer has formed deep bonds with his shelter family. He leans in for affection. He watches for familiar faces. He trusts us — and that trust is something we cherish deeply. But as much as he loves us, he deserves more.He deserves to belong to someone, not just someplace.Homer is ready for a forever home — one that will let him continue to grow, learn, and love at his own gentle pace. He doesn’t need much. Just patience, kindness, and someone who understands how special that moment is when a once-lost dog finally knows he’s home.Puppies 6 months and under are typically $200 and dogs from 7 months to 6 years are typically $100.00. Story
🐾 Meet Bebe 🐾Bebe is a 3.5-year-old Shar-Pei mix who has already lived through more than any dog ever should. She and seven other dogs were heartbreakingly dumped and arrived in our care in rough shape — but despite it all, Bebe’s gentle, forgiving spirit continues to shine through. At first, she can be a little unsure — after all, life hasn’t always been kind to her — but once she realizes you’re someone who won’t hurt her, her sweetness absolutely blossoms. She leans in for love, wags her tail shyly, and starts to let her true, tender personality show. You might notice Bebe’s skin and coat are still healing, and we want to clear up the biggest question right away:✨ Her condition is caused by Demodex mange — and it’s NOT contagious! ✨Here’s what that means:• Demodectic mange is caused by microscopic mites called Demodex.• These mites are normally present in small numbers on most dogs (and even people!) without causing any issues.• When a dog’s immune system becomes compromised — often due to neglect, stress, or poor nutrition — the mites can overgrow, leading to hair loss and irritated skin. With proper care, love, and a little time, Bebe’s skin and coat will continue to heal beautifully!Bebe is great with other dogs and finds comfort being around them — it’s like she knows they’ve been through the same things. She’s slowly learning what it means to just be a dog: playing with toys, enjoying treats, and realizing she doesn’t have to worry about survival anymore. She and her friends are all incredibly sweet, gentle, and deserving of so much more than the cards they were dealt. Bebe is ready for the next chapter — one filled with safety, kindness, and unconditional love. 💛Puppies 6 months and under are typically $200 and dogs from 7 months to 6 years are typically $100.00. Story
Beamer’s story is one that breaks your heart before it warms it. She was found dumped like trash on a rural backroad, left to fend for herself alongside seven other dogs we believe to be her family. Her body told the story clearly: she had been bred litter after litter after litter, used and used again, and then discarded once she was no longer “useful.”When she first arrived, Beamer didn’t know anything about the world a dog should know.Beds. Toys. Treats. Soft voices. All of it was unfamiliar and terrifying. She had spent her whole life just trying to survive and protect her babies. But slowly—and beautifully—she has begun to trust. With patience, consistency, and reassurance from our caring kennel team, Beamer is starting to bloom. At about 40 pounds, she looks like a petite “mini” Lab/Shar Pei mix, and her gentle eyes say everything. She now steps forward for affection, she’s learning that a leash means walks instead of danger, and she’s discovering that human hands can be soft, kind, and safe. She has gotten a glimpse of what love feels like… but she deserves forever, not just “for now.”Beamer is also healing physically. She has demodectic mange, which may sound concerning, but it’s not. What is Demodex?Demodectic mange is caused by a microscopic mite that ALL dogs naturally carry. When a dog’s immune system is weakened—especially from neglect, stress, overbreeding, and malnutrition—those mites can overgrow and cause hair loss and skin irritation. It is NOT contagious to other pets or people, and with the medical care she is already receiving, she is healing beautifully.Beamer has spent her entire life giving everything she had to her babies. Now, it is her turn to be cared for.She needs a family who will move at her pace, show her patience and gentleness, and commit to loving her for the rest of her life. Not out of sympathy—but because she is truly deserving of a love that is safe, consistent, and forever. If you’ve ever wanted to truly change a life, this is your chance!💜Puppies 6 months and under are typically $200 and dogs from 7 months to 6 years are typically $100.00.
