Meet Ruby! Ruby is a 3-year-old, 60 lb Lab/Cattle Dog mix who’s as sweet as she is striking. As a puppy, Ruby battled a condition called strangles, which left some scarring on her face—but we think it only adds character to her beautiful smile! It doesn’t cause her any pain, and she’s just as healthy and happy as any other pup. Ruby is house and kennel trained, and she actually enjoys the comfort of her kennel when her people are away. She loves going on walks and is doing great learning her leash manners. She’s unbothered by other dogs when out and about, preferring to focus on exploring all the new smells! When she’s home, Ruby loves toys of every kind—chew bones, Kongs filled with treats, stuffed toys—you name it, she’ll play with it. She also loves to be close to her people, whether that means curling up next to you on the couch or laying quietly nearby. Ruby is still learning about the world and gaining confidence. She can get anxious or overstimulated in new situations, and sometimes expresses that excitement by jumping up near her person—she’s working on learning better ways to channel that energy. Ruby has done well with one calm, playful dog friend and would likely thrive in a home with a confident medium-to-large dog who enjoys playtime but isn’t pushy. She’s not the best fit for homes with small pets or young children. A professional trainer who evaluated Ruby described her as “a happy-go-lucky, people-friendly dog with a big personality and a playful nature.” She bonds easily with humans, settles nicely in her kennel, and shows great potential once her anxiety is managed. With the right environment and consistent training, Ruby has the potential to thrive and needs a person or family who is willing to commit to 3–6 months of structured work to help her reduce reactivity, manage anxiety, and learn boundaries.
