Up to date on shots: Yes Housebroken: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Ok with dogs: Yes Ok with cats: Unknown but probably ok Ok with Kids: Yes, kids over 10 years -she is very shy Requirements: Securely fenced yard, someone home most of the time, a calm companion dog in home, experienced owner willing to do some training, no kids under 10 years   Words from Shira I am so happy each morning when my crate is opened to start my day. After doing my downward dog stretch, I am ready to go downstairs to greet my foster sisters, stretch my legs and go outside to do my business. I am always so happy to come in because I know you have a treat waiting for me. I enjoy chewing on toys, or an antler.  I’m always happy when it’s mealtime but I don’t eat as fast as I used to because I don’t have food insecurity anymore. I love to eat and drink lots of water. After eating and playing, its time for a nap. I will snuggle either on a comfy dog bed or the areas you allow me to nap. I will let you know when I want to go outside by going to the door to the backyard. I am always happy when you take me for a late afternoon walk, I am still a little nervous on walks; all of the new sounds make me a little jumpy. I am becoming more secure and gaining confidence. I show you how happy I am by wagging my tail and giving kisses. I love to be pet and I am learning how to cuddle, I have discovered that it makes me feel good.   Words from my foster family Shira has a sweet personality. She is timid around new people and prefers to observe from afar until she is comfortable to approach. When comfortable, she is happy to be by your side or off playing with another dog. Shira likes treats and does well with positive reinforcement. Shira is doing very well with her crate, she sleeps in it at night. Shira sleeps through the night and will make noises in the morning when she would like out to do her business. Shira is housebroken. Shira can be timid at first with new dog walkers but once comfortable, she enjoys going for walks. She’s also getting use to car rides. Shira gets along well with our two small dogs and has become fast friends with both. Shira would do well in a house with a playmate or would be happy alone with all of her parents’ attention. Shira loves to play with toys; she enjoys playing, chewing on toys, playing ball, or wrestling with her foster sisters. Shira is loyal and will be grateful to have people love her. Shira has a sweet and gentle disposition with kind eyes, she looks at her humans with such love. Shira is always so grateful for everything that you do for her and will make someone very happy. Story
He might not have electric boots or a mohair suit, but our Benny is one of a kind! Benny is an 8 month old neutered male Labrador Retriever mix who came into the shelter as a stray but was never claimed. Benny definitely likes to jet - he will need an active, experienced owner to tire him out and help him be the best Benny that he can be!This high energy boy will need someone with experience in basic training, especially working with him on his leash skills and his tendency to mouth at arms and clothing and to jump up excitedly on people. When working with staff during training sessions, Benny surprised everyone and did very well! Shelter staff think that at some point in his `puppyhood` Benny attended some basic obedience classes, but we unfortunately cannot confirm this! Benny is very food-motivated, and tends to have better focus on commands when there is a reward in it for him (if ever a dog needed a t-shirt with `will work for treats` emblazoned on the back, Benny is THAT dog). Unfortunately, once treats are taken out of the equation, Benny tends to lose focus and `forget` his manners. With additional training, we think that he will learn to be more consistent! Luckily, this boy will provide enough love and laughs in the meantime to make him worth the effort! If you think you can handle the loveable smiling Benny, contact the East Region shelter at 416-338-7539!
