Story
Meet Bailey and Charlie! They are both Maltese/Yorkie mixes; Bailey (the lighter colored one) is a female around age 16, and Charlie (the darker colored one) is a male around age 12-13. These two senior pups came to Husky House when their elderly owner unfortunately passed away. Bailey and Charlie are sweet, affectionate dogs who love to be pet, held, and sit in your lap. They are good with people and other dogs; they have never been cat tested, but would likely also do well with cats. Please help these sweet seniors live out their golden years in a loving home! Interested in adopting? Please visit www.huskyhouse.org today to fill out an application.August 29, 2025, 11:42 pm

Story
Hi! My name is Sunshine — and just like my name, I brighten every room I enter! Everyone smiles when they meet me, and I love spreading happiness wherever I go. I’m an 11-year-old Maltese mix with a beautiful white and gray coat, and I weigh just 8 pounds. Don’t let my age fool you! I’m full of life, love being picked up and cuddled, and I still enjoy going on my daily walks. I’m calm, affectionate, and get along wonderfully with other dogs and even cats. I’m currently in a foster home where I enjoy the company of several canine friends. I am very loving and will stay by your side and love being picked up and cuddled I’m spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and fully vetted. I may be a senior, but I’m healthy, happy, and have so much love to give. If you're looking for a gentle, easygoing companion to fill your heart and home with sunshine, I’m your girl! Story
Meet Barney! Barney is an adorable 5-year-old Maltipoo, weighing just 10 pounds fully grown. This sweet little guy is the ultimate cuddle buddy — happiest snuggled up on the couch and sharing all the love in his tiny heart. He’s also sociable with other dogs. Barney loves his walks and is wonderful on a leash. He enjoys running around the backyard and then settling in to play with his toys. Barney can be nervous with adults and children at first, when new people enter the home. He may bark or run away, but once he has time to observe and feel safe, he’ll come over on his own terms and become your little shadow. Because of this, a calm, patient household where he can be doted on would be the best match for him. He’s neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped. 📍 To apply for Barney, copy and paste this link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/POSH/Dog

Story
Coconut - 10 years, Maltese, Spayed This senior angel is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience needed:FLEXIBLE: We predict this dog will be low on the challenge scale with regard to exercise and mental stimulation requirements, but seniors tend to need a lot of help and understanding when it comes to lifestyle and veterinary issues. Seniors usually need quiet, calm environments and routines and do not do well with a lot of bustle, change, and rambunctious movement (kids and young playful dogs, for instance). This dog’s adopter will need to be prepared for senior health challenges, which usually come with expensive veterinary bills and time in vet offices. Senior care can also take an emotional toll on their humans. Adopting a mature pup is a wonderful thing to do, but it can also be difficult.  Energy levelLOWER: Pretty chill indoors and won’t demand endless amounts of stimulation and exercise but still needs a few short walks a day (10-30 min each) for potty breaks and to stretch their legs Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most seniors do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Potty trained?Probably! Seniors usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. Seniors tend to need potty breaks more often than younger dogs though, and they can lose their ability to fully control their potty habits as they continue to age, so willingness to be flexible with cleanup and wee pads if necessary is important.  Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some enjoy the company of other calm dogs, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats?Probably. Seniors are usually mellow enough that they are able to coexist well with cats.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. Adopters will need to be ready for senior care – at a minimum, that will be annual checkups including senior bloodwork and a dental post adoption (most senior rescues need one). How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
