*This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Meet Coco, a little senior sweetheart with a big love for attention. Coco is the smaller half of this adorable bonded pair, and he wants nothing more than to be right by your side — or better yet, in your lap giving kisses. He is affectionate, snuggly, and happiest when he’s close to his people. Coco has a relaxed daily routine and enjoys several short walks a day. After a potty break, breakfast, and a walk, he’s usually ready to curl up in a soft bed or relax in his kennel with Cooper nearby. He’s not too interested in toys, but he does have the cutest habit of “digging” himself the perfect little spot before collapsing into a deep, cozy nap. Coco is crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, and knows simple commands. He does bark at other dogs at first, but he’s been improving with treats and just needs a little time to sniff and settle. Coco is wonderful with people and loves being touched, petted, and included. Coco and Cooper are truly bonded and must be adopted together. These sweet senior boys are low-key, loving companions who still enjoy getting outside for walks and fresh air. They are ready to bring double the snuggles, double the smiles, and double the love to their forever home. ---- Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. He's as sweet as they come and absolutely loves being with his people. Doug has lived successfully in a home with children and has a friendly, affectionate personality that wins everyone over. Doug is a total goofball who loves to entertain himself and everyone around him. He'll happily pounce on his toys, toss them into the air, and proudly bring them to you in hopes you'll play a game of fetch. His playful spirit is contagious, and he's always ready for the next adventure. Doug absolutely loves other dogs and would enjoy having a canine sibling to play with. However, because he's still building on the training and structure he's learned, he will need a home that can provide clear boundaries and consistency. While he'd be happy with the right dog companion, Doug may ultimately do best as an only dog where his new family can focus on continuing his training and helping him succeed. Because Doug has a high prey drive, he'll need a home without small pets. Squirrels are simply too tempting for him, so he'll need a family that's prepared to manage his instincts on walks and outdoor adventures. Doug recently completed a four-week board-and-train program with our training partner, Northstar Family K9 Training, where he made wonderful progress building confidence, improving his leash skills, and learning the foundations for success. His future family will need to continue reinforcing everything he's learned through consistent training, structure, and positive reinforcement. Ongoing leash work, continued crate training, and practicing his obedience skills will be important as Doug settles into his forever home. Doug is a very busy young dog who thrives when he has a job to do. He needs an active family that is dedicated to both training and daily exercise. Right now, his ideal day includes a trip to the dog park—Minnehaha is his favorite!—plus a 3-mile walk. Regular physical activity and mental enrichment are essential to keeping this smart, energetic boy happy and well-balanced. Doug is fully potty trained and has excellent house manners. Because he enjoys companionship and can become anxious when left alone, he'd love a family where someone works from home or has a hybrid schedule. That routine will help set him up for success as he continues adjusting to life in his forever home. I'm a growing puppy and I'm still learning! While I've made great progress, I'll need a family committed to continuing my training so I can keep building confidence and making good choices. I'd love to attend obedience classes with my new family and continue practicing all the skills I've learned. My ideal forever home will be with people who are home most of the day and won't leave me alone for longer than 3–4 hours at a time while I continue building confidence in my crate and settling into my new routine. I’m a growing puppy and I have not yet had a lot of experience with crates, kids or cats and I might bark if something alarms me, but I really love to learn and hoping for a family who will take me to a basic obedience class to continue to help me build confidence and dog skills. Ideally my forever home would need to be home during the day to help me with my potty training and not leave me for breaks longer than 3 - 4 hours. Get your toy box ready! **Obedience classes are required when adopting this puppy from Underdog Rescue. Many of our puppies have a mama who was not properly socialized before coming to Underdog Rescue. Since coming to Underdog, this puppy has been in a socialized and loving home, but that needs to be continued with its Adopters. Training classes teach puppies the ins and outs of being a pet while creating a bond with their new Adopter. Obedience classes are key to creating a relationship with your puppy while having it be a happy and successful member of society. Proof of Obedience Class registration is required for this puppy before adoptions can be finalized. If you would like some suggestions, we would be happy to send some trainers who have experience with Underdog Rescue, but a Basic Obedience class in your area should work! Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. Meet Layla – Your Toy-Loving Snuggle Expert! 🐾❤️ Layla is a sweet, lovable girl who's mastered the perfect balance of playtime and naptime. She loves carrying around her toys, entertaining herself, and then happily curling up for one of her many well-earned naps. At bedtime, she's convinced the best place to sleep is snuggled up in bed with her people—and she'll snooze peacefully through the entire night. Like many dogs, Layla gets very excited when she spots wildlife or other animals on walks. Squirrels, turkeys, cats, and dogs are simply way too interesting, so she'll bark and pull on the leash in her enthusiasm. She'll do best with someone who can confidently redirect her attention and continue working on her leash skills. Layla also has a funny little habit of scratching at the couch or comforters when she's feeling playful or energetic. Luckily, she's easily redirected to one of her favorite toys, and she's more than happy to channel that energy into playtime instead. If you're looking for a sweet companion who loves toys, enjoys cozy cuddle sessions, and is always ready for a good night's sleep by your side, Layla may be your perfect match! This pet is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm disease. Activity must be restricted for several weeks during recovery. RSR will cover the full cost of treatment.
