Story
Terrific Tonka!  Tonka is an extra-large mixed breed--maybe Mastiff, or Saint Bernard, or Great Pyrenees.  She weighs 97 lbs and is about 2 years old.  She enjoys playing with puppies and did well with our test cat, Waylon.  She is a strong girl and likes to jump on people, so obedience training would be beneficial for her.  She really likes children, but because of her size and strength, we think she would do best with children 8 years and older.  She's a good-natured girl, and people who love extra-large breed dogs would really enjoy her! Please note:  You must live within a 175-mile radius of our facility to be considered for adoption. To fill out an online application to adopt this pet, cut and paste this link:  https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/2627/generic You can also find a link to our online adoption application on our website at www.hartforanimals.org/adopt  or on our Petfinder homepage.  We process applications in the order they are received; therefore, it could take UP TO 2 weeks for us to respond to your application. Please do not send us an inquiry unless you have specific questions. All our dogs and puppies are spayed or neutered, vaccinated for rabies, Bordetella, and distemper/parvo, treated with flea/ tick medication, tested for heartworm and Lyme disease, and given a microchip before being adopted into their new homes. ##2655663##

Story
Ralph the Derp! Ralph is a huge friendly, enthusiastic, uncoordinated 4-legged energetic goofball! He was rescued from “death row” at a high kill shelter, as a skinny stray with a treatable skin condition. His fur has almost completely grown in & he is now at a healthy weight. This overgrown mastiff/Cane Corso mix pup has no comprehension of his size, leaning into humans for affection or trying to ooze onto laps for cuddles. He is being trained not to jump and not to paw for attention/affection/play because he currently has 85# of mass behind those “congenial” moves. Ralph plays well with dogs of all sizes, but would do best with med-to-larger dogs due to his size & poorly curbed gusto. He hordes toys, taking them all to his chosen dog bed of the day. He likes to carry a special toy “baby” in his mouth when going out in the yard. He does need to be fed in his crate & will guard his empty food bowl from other dogs, unless he is distracted with a toy & led outdoors after meals. He is great on a leash, makes awesome grunty sounds when cuddled, enjoys baths. Ralph will make a great addition to an active family with older children. He is eager to please, food and affection oriented (although a bit stubborn at times), making him an ideal candidate for success with continuation of his training. Please consider adopting the gorgeous big derp into your home. Attributes: In training to avoid jumping/pawing Active family Local adoption fee is $200(in TX) Out of state adoption fee is $450 (includes transport to your area)

Story
Bertha’s Story Meet Bertha, a 3-year-old Mastiff mix with a heart as big as her paws. Bertha’s journey hasn’t been the easiest — she was found abandoned in an apartment after her owners moved out and left her behind. Thankfully, caring neighbors stepped in and did what they could for her before bringing her to a shelter so she could have a real chance at a better life. From there, Bertha went into a temporary foster home while waiting for a full-time foster, and that’s where her true personality began to shine. At first, Bertha was very shy and unsure, but it didn’t take long to see just how much love she had to give. With patience and kindness, she blossomed into the goofy, affectionate girl she truly is. Bertha absolutely loves to play and will never turn down a cozy lap to lay her big head on. She has lived with other dogs and has done well with them, but she would prefer a home without cats. When Bertha was rescued, she was very malnourished, so we are still working on helping her gain healthy weight. Her future family should expect her to be a big girl, likely around 110 lbs once she’s fully filled out — which just means 110 pounds of love. Bertha is looking for a family that will never leave her behind again — one that will give her the security, love, and couch space she deserves. In return, she’ll give you endless loyalty, laughs, and the sweetest snuggles. Could Bertha be the missing piece of your family?
