Story
Ollie and Lulu were surrendered to us when their owner no longer had the time to care for them. They both had untreated medical issues and severe dental disease, leaving them extremely uncomfortable and lethargic. After receiving treatment they became almost entirely different dogs. Ollie and Lulu may be seniors but they sure do like to go for walks and run around the yard together. They are a volunteer favourite because of their goofy and sweet dispositions. They are selective with dogs and would only do well in a home with another calm dog that does not intimidate or become rough with them. Ollie does bark at other dogs in passing, while Lulu ignores them. Ollie and Lulu would do well in just about any home. They have been great with respectful children that are experienced with dogs. Lulu can sometimes have grumpy moments when she wants her space to nap. It's important to look for the obvious signs when she needs alone time. Ollie is always happy and ready for a cuddle. This cute duo have great house manners, they frequently go on sleepovers with our dedicated volunteers who report they are always on their best behaviour. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.CIVIC came to us from a community in Manitoba and he came south to find his loving family. He’s neutered, vaccinated including his rabies shot, microchipped, had NexGard and a negative 4Dx test plus his vet also gave him a clean bill of health. We were told he was the breeds listed as he did have an owner in the community he came from. He’s full grown so we know that’s the size he’ll be give or take the odd pound. He’s a very loving little guy who loves to snuggle up with his foster on the couch but he’s also an active little guy who loves to be busy and burn off e energy. He will need a strong minded, experienced dog owner and an active one who can give him the exercise and discipline he needs so he can be the best little guy possible.  CIVIC is crate trained and will sleep quietly in it at night but he’ll make bit of a fuss when he goes in it during the day to take a nap but he’ll settle down after about 5 minutes or so. He’s housetrained and will let you know when he needs to go outside for a bathroom break. He loves to go on walks and can do about an hour walk around the lake no problem at all. He enjoys running around in the yard with his toys, stuffies and chasing balls around so he needs to have a fenced-in yard.. He’s fostered in a home with a small female dog and they get along really well together so he would suit a home with an easy going one just like she is. They are fed separately at meal times though as he thinks “what’s mine is mine and what’s yours is mine” too. He has a few kittens in his foster home and he wants to chase them around so he’s constantly watched with and not left alone with them either. We’re tending to lean more towards him best suited to being an only pet in his new home so he can have all the attention to himself. Young people should be at least 12 years of age and be dog savvy, loving and considerate to animals.  CIVIC would love to be part of an active home that likes to go on long walks. hiking in the woods and seeing as he loves riding in a vehicle, he would love to go on lots of car rides and adventures too. He’s good with young people but they should be aged 16 and up and be dog savvy, gentle, caring and loving towards animals. He knows quite a few basic commands like “sit”, “stay”, “paw”, “come” and will dance in circles when you offer him a treat. One of our fosters groomed him and shaved him down with no problem except when it came to his face and he was having none of that and started to bear his teeth to let her know he didn’t like her around his face. So when he goes for a grooming we suggest it should be someone who can handle a little guy like him and his tendencies.  CIVIC did have an incident at our vet’s office and he was fine going into the exam room but when his foster put him on the exam table he started to bare his teeth and snarl at the vet. We promptly put a muzzle on him but he still seemed pretty upset. The vet and her VT managed to settle him down and give him his shots and a wellness check but the only thing that wasn’t done was a mouth/teeth check due to the muzzle. His foster had never seen him act like that before and the only conclusion we could come up with is that he had a previous bad experience with a vet however, we did have him assessed by dog trainers (Leah & Andrew from K9 Focus) and they felt that he has some separation anxiety and he was standing his ground between the vet and his foster.  A latest update is that he snarled at his potential adopters as he was being adjusted in their vehicle. No matter what excuse we can give for the incident, it’s not acceptable behaviour. Both parties decided to cancel the adoption and we got him booked in for a board and train stint at Sunnidale Kennels in Angus. He’s doing great there and receiving lots of one on one training and flourishing under their professional care. The great thing about their programme is they offer several training classes with his adoptive family and we simply put them in touch with the kennels to set that up. We strongly recommend that this offer be taken advantage of as it will be a great way for both Civic and his new owner to form a bond. We feel we’ e done our due diligence in getting him assessed and put in the hands of very capable trainers and everyone has agreed he’s a loving dog and just needs to be with the right type of owners who will be able to take the upper hand with him and definitely not let him dominate them.  If CIVIC sounds like the dog that you can handle and will fit into your lifestyle then please submit an adoption application to meet him.     Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 6, 2025, 10:37 pm
