Story
Location: Whitby Dog’s Name: Simba  Breed: Mini Poodle Weight: 14 lbs /6.2 kg Gender: Male Spayed/neutered: Neutered Age: 4 Reason for Intake: Owner Surrender Medical (shots etc): up to date  Good with dogs: Yes Good with cats: Yes but wants to chase if cat runs from him Good with kids Yes Good with strangers: Yes Guarding issues: No Ever bitten a human: no  Ever bitten a dog: No Behavioural issues: None, Very well behaved, listens, understands. House trained: Yes, exceptional Crate trained: Came with a crate but has only gone inside to take his bed out Destructive when left alone: No Barks when left alone: Rarely has been left alone.  When Favourite person leaves, Simba whimpers and or barks for a short time (and others could be home) Leash skills: Excellent, wears his harness, and loves his walks Handling issues: No concerns, can pick him up, likes to sleep on or near person, Known commands: His name, Sit, Stop, learning paw Food on now: Purina ONE Lamb & Brown rice mixed with Dry kibble Natures Recipe Grain Free (Real Salmon) – came with the kibble but didnt really care to eat it. Likes raw carrot, watermelon, yogurt Medical issues: none known of but at times when he drinks, he will cough, and almost choke,  Personality, likes/dislikes: This dog is gentle and sweet. Everyone likes this dog. He is happy to see people, enjoys pats, likes to lay on his human's lap, sleeps on bed Simba seems well adjusted, but when he finds his ball (tennis) he goes crazy with it. Is Obsessive to playing ball, will bark continuously and loud. He will bark and try to get you to play with it. He will bark until you try to interact with it. When you try to touch ball, he grabs it and runs – he will bark very loudly and will also do it evenings around 11 – If you wear him out playing earlier, he wont carry on as long – If you hide ball, he knows and will keep sniffing until he finds it or will bring another toy to you to play. This is probably the reason he never came with a ball. The owner must have taken it away. It's like an obsession with ball and will squeal with joy. At times, he yelps running after it. I cant describe how obsessed he behaves with it. Just know he is crazy about ball.   When Simba first came to our home, he went into the stuffie toys and brought many of them to where I was sitting. He brought one at a time but once he found a ball – it was a game changer. Cute at first but it became – you just gotta wear him out playing.   The first couple days Simba barked at everything – learning the sounds. He learned and settled quickly. Barking is minimal but he does bark.   Best home scenario: You are looking for an addition to your family, and know that you will spend a lot of time with Simba by your side. Knowing that you will have a shadow, Simba will follow you everywhere. He has to be near his humans, he loves everyone. You allow dogs on bed and furniture, Simba. He may have been crated during day, if he was left alone previously owner said he slept in crate. In the month we've had him, he did not choose his crate at all. Crate sits in living room with bed inside and toys that he came with, but Simba is not interested.   It would help to have another dog and a semi active life style. If no other dog, he enjoys meeting other dogs and making friends. But if they are too assertive, and chase him, he will come to human for protection.  He is playful, but prefers dogs to run and play, not chase him or bark at him. He can be loose in the backyard where he can run zoomies, but comes back to human. Simba is not scared of water – fine in shower, fine at splash pad. Simba loves his humans, he will kiss you! Loves his walks. Walk anytime short or long. So happy when you get his leash. He will spend his day doing whatever you do, by your side. He is calm but can be active. He is happy to meet anyone, any age. He does not bark long if someone comes to door. He is lessening is bark cry when I leave. Would yelp like a hyena even tho others are home. He is such a well behaved, well mannered obedient dog. Simba is ok in the car for a short distance. Just know “ball” will be a challenge no matter how long you throw it. No matter, Get ready to fall in love fur-ever with this precious boy Simba, because he is such a beautiful boy!        July 18, 2024, 9:28 am
