Story
Freya is a 2-3 year old mini poodle mix (we think with "cockapoo) who is a friendly, happy and outgoing lady.  She is from a puppy mill but is looking forward to moving forward with her new life now!   She is good with other dogs, loves going for walks, is energetic and always up for adventure.  We are working on  her housetraining and it's coming along very well. She is approx. 30-35 pounds, good with cats, likes people and enjoys their attention and affection. Freya is not like other puppy mill dogs where they are shut down and fearful. This girl has had socialization and human interaction, and knows how to walk on the leash. Story
Fripette is a lovely little dog who weighs approx. 15 pounds.  Very quiet and sleeps most of the day in her hiding spots.  She loves to chase and retrieve her balls and brings me one when she wants to play.  As far as I know she does not bark when I leave but cries loudly when I get back.   She is indifferent to other dogs but will stand still when they approach or hide behind me.  She also shies away from people when they try to pat her and will not come out from under the small table when I have company.  In the four months she has been here, my friends have only seen her once when she ran out to pee.  She also hesitates to get on the elevator if anyone else is on it and I have had to wait for another one at times.   She doesn't seem interested in being outside too much.  She will do her business and head back to the door, always checking behind her.  I have only gotten her to walk around the building a few times but she seems so nervous.  She also doesn't care to ride in the car    She is more or less house trained.  She wakes me up about 4:30/5:00 a.m. and goes out to urinate on pads on the balcony.  I also have to keep pads down in the dining room and have covered the carpet with plastic, as she does have accidents if she can't wake me or I am out.  She has to urinate several times during the day between walks     Fripette is not a cuddly dog, doesn't like being held or sitting beside me.  She seems happy just laying on the floor beside me, so she does follow me around.   She has a good appetite   Health-wise Fripette has a heart murmur (will need to be on vetmedin long term), dry eye (on cyclosporin eye drops long term), and Cushing's disease (on trilostane long term). She also likely has underlying allergies and is on apoquel currently to  control her itch.   Her meds will be approx. 400.00 per month   May 1, 2024, 6:32 am

Story
Affectionate, loyal and a little bit velcro! He is a loving companion who forms strong bonds with his humans - once trust is established - it takes time for Zuco to warm up, but once he does he'll be your shadow until the moment you sit down, when he'll crawl up on your lap and snuggle in. But he is not all snuggles, he loves running and playing fetch and he is great at food enrichment-puzzle games and he hasn't met one that he can't beat yet!His foster family says he can be fractious and protective when unknown people come to the door, but with the proper introduction he is less nervous and vocal. Zuco needs some work on his reactivity toward other dogs and some people. His foster has begun to work on these behaviours through positive reinforcement and his adopter will have to continue to as well. In addition, Zuco will "resource guard" items that he thinks are valuable to you. Ideally, Zuco's adopter will have experience dealing with this behaviour and be prepared to apply a consistent approach to managing him. If not managed properly, Zuco can lash out.ABOUT ZUCO:- Zuco is a 6 year old, Cockapoo, approximately 25 lbs- Zuco came to EHS as an owner who surrendered him due to relocation overseas- He is happiest with human company but when left alone he has not shown any signs of separation anxiety- Zuco loves the car and behaves well- Zuco likes to learn and already knows obedience cues, such as sit, stay, and waiting for an okay before eating- Zuco does not always like to be touched and this means that groomer and vet visits can be more complicated - and Zuco's adopter needs to be able to respect these boundaries- Zuco is neutered, house-trained, crate-trained, microchipped, and up to date on core vaccinationsZUCO'S IDEAL HOME:- Zuco would thrive in a home where someone is frequently present, as he craves companionship- Zuco needs to go to an adopter who is not a first-time dog owner, and who has the patience and experience to instill in Zuco the confidence he needs- He must be the only pet in a household - He should go to a home without children, this includes infrequent visits by children- He would benefit from continued training and mental stimulation to work on his reactivity and resource-guarding behaviours and we will provide support through a trainerIf you believe you can offer Zuco the loving home he deserves, please fill out our online adoption application. Pre-approved applicants will have the opportunity to meet Zuco. For inquiries about Zuco or our adoption process, please contact our adoption coordinator at jenc.ehs@gmail.com
