Story
The lovely Juniper is a 10-pound miniature poodle, approximately 7 months old. She is from yet another puppy mill. She is scheduled for PDA heart surgery shortly, after which she is expected to lead a full and happy life. The rescue, of course, will cover the cost of the surgery.  The PDA surgery is a "one and done" and her heart will be repaired and ready for a long life Don’t let her calm demeanor fool you! Although she may be cautious at first, she can quickly go to curious and then to “how do you like me now!” In her current foster home, she lives with two dog savvy cats and a senior small dog.  She loves to play with the cats and they are very tolerant of her antics. When they tell her they have had enough, she respects them and goes off to find another adventure. She is also good with the dog in the home and respects that he is a senior and may not be able to keep up with her enthusiasm. She loves exploring the fully fenced yard.  Her zoomies include Indy race car speed laps around the gardens. Look out squirrels and butterflies-she is lightning fast! She also is quite happy to curl up on the grass beside her foster folks and enjoy the sights and sounds. Juniper does bark at neighborhood sounds or if in the house she sometimes barks at something she hears outside.  This has much improved since her first arrival but an apartment or condo would not be her ideal home. She enjoys her crate. She sleeps there overnight and has her meals there as well. Nap time can find her curled up in her bed there or sharing a bed with one of the cats. Housetraining is coming along well-the odd accident.  She does need to go out regularly.  She goes for two walks every day and does all her business while out. She walks with a harness and has adjusted to it well.  She does need to learn to curb her enthusiasm when meeting people and other dogs. She gets very excited to meet everyone she sees.  She needs to be calmer and respect all that she meets. Her ideal home would be with an individual or family that is home more often that not, have a fenced yard with real grass (as opposed to artificial grass as loves to spend time sniffing nature's offerings) a furry friend would be great for her, whether it be another dog, or a cat.  All in all, Juniper is a lovely, fun and entertaining young lady and deserves to find that loving, forever home.  September 13, 2024, 2:14 pm

Story
Roland is an approximately 11 pound mini poodle, neutered male; around 10-12 years old. He's been through quite the journey.  Originally from a puppy mill and went to one of our foster homes.  While there, a neighbour's dog jumped over the fence and attacked Roland.   He suffered numerous injuries and has some issues because of that attack. His airway was affected and now he has a deep honky cough that comes serval times a day.  Could be caused by pleural thickening and the hiatal hernia seen on the ultrasound.  His ribs were also fractured but have since healed.  Roland can be shy and skittish but he does warm up.  He is not vocal or destructive when left alone.  He does not like to be crated and will paw excessively on the front of the crate.  His housetraining is coming along although he still lifts his leg sometimes in the home.  He is good with other dogs but will often try and eat their food them if not separated  He has a low thyroid and is on meds for the 2x per day approximately 60.00 per month. Roland is a great chap and is learning to walk on leash now which took a while b/c of all the surgeries and injuries he sustained, he could not wear a collar or a harness.  During his dental he lost all of his teeth due to severe decay and rotting. He had 2 fistulas that were repaired and now successfully healed over     September 13, 2024, 2:14 pm

Story
A very sweet little Miniature Poodle named Zach recently joined our rescue. He is 5 years old and weighs around 12 lbs. He lived in a puppy mill all his life and has some challenges to overcome, but is making progress. Zach was very frightened when he arrived at his foster home. He shook for 3 days and slept alone in the living room at night. Three days later he moved to a bed on the floor in the bedroom. Now he sleeps on the bed with his foster parents and their dogs. Zach is comfortable climbing stairs and likes to spend time outside in the backyard rolling in the grass. He feels safe in his home and yard. He is, however, frightened to leave his safe space and when he went for his first walk on a leash he froze and had to be carried home. He is quiet travelling in the car and is fine with a seatbelt or crate. Zach has a very good appetite and eats 2 meals a day. Benny Bully are his favourite treats. He eats Royal Canin Adult canned food. We add a little chopped chicken and rice. He also eats Performatrin Ultra Kibble. These can be purchased from Pet Valu. Currently there are 3 small dogs in Zach’s foster home. He will sometimes join in when the other dogs bark, but for the most part is quiet. He has not been destructive when left alone. He is friendly with people and other dogs.   When Zach was released from the puppy mill he was severley matted and clipped down very short. It will take a couple of months for his coat to grow back in. Zack is not yet totally housebroken. He will do his business outside in the yard. If he can’t get outside in time he will poo on a puppy pad, but will lift his leg on furniture for a pee (we use a belly band for him so no urine gets on our furniture). He will need a training. Zach would probably do best in a very quiet environment with no children. Preferably he should go into a home with a retiree or someone who works from home and could be with him most of the time. A house with a yard and another dog would be a bonus. He is making great progress and with a little time and patience he will do very well. September 13, 2024, 2:14 pm
