Story
Meet Kodi — proof that age is just a number. At 12 years old and just 6.5 pounds, Kodi is the kind of loyal, low-maintenance companion dreams are made of. He’s house-trained (even in the rain!), sleeps quietly through the night in his crate, and quickly mastered the doggie door like the smart little guy he is. Kodi loves nothing more than being near you—happily curled up at your side or trotting along on a walk, just glad to be included. He is gentle, calm, and full of life, with so much love left to give. He eats only canned food due to his lack of teeth and his age. Kodi didn’t deserve to be surrendered to a shelter by his owner but now he’s ready to be someone’s whole world. Maybe yours? We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention. All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.

Story
Here's a version that sounds more like a rescue telling his story and less like a polished adoption ad: Thacker is an AKC-registered Miniature Poodle who somehow found himself being passed from family to family before finally landing somewhere safe. When he arrived at Flying B, he was underweight and suffering from one of the worst skin conditions we've seen in a long time. The good news? Our veterinary team believes his condition is the result of neglect and a lack of basic care, not chronic allergies or a lifelong medical issue. With proper nutrition, treatment, and a little time, Thacker should make a full recovery. And despite everything he's been through, Thacker hasn't lost his spark. He's smart, affectionate, playful, and completely house trained. He has excellent manners in the home and is the kind of dog who just seems to know how to fit into a family. He's friendly with other dogs but doesn't need to be the center of attention—he's perfectly content to coexist and do his own thing. Honestly, Thacker is the real deal. The hard part of his story is behind him, and now he's ready for the life he should have had all along: a family that sees him as a forever commitment, not a temporary stop along the way. If you’re ready for a meet and greet, kick off the process with an application at www.flyingbrescue.org/adopt. Our application is thorough but there are no right or wrong answers - we just want to make sure you and the pet are the perfect match. Once we receive your application, we will schedule a phone interview. Our adoptions include a 2-week trial period with fully refundable adoption fees during that period. If you are located outside of Texas, we offer transportation services and have happy families as references. We value transparency, so don’t be afraid to ask us anything.

Story
This is sweet Ollie, whom I adopted from DFW Rescue Me. He is just the nicest dog. I got Ollie seven years ago when I was going through a hard time, and he was just the sweetest snuggliest thing to me. When I rescued him he was very scared as he had come from a horrid hoarding situation, and the rescue said he may have been kicked in the eye (left). I just took him to the vet on 6/10, and he is completely blind in that eye but that has never stopped him from anything. We never got an exact birthday for Ollie, but we think he was born on 1/29/2014. He is a weeniepoodle (dachshund poodle) and will require grooming every 3-4 months, if not he gets very shaggy. He is spayed and microchipped. He would never hurt a fly. Ollie constantly tries to get out of our current home. Since we moved, he has eloped over 20 times either through the front door despite our efforts or in the back by the meter through sharp chicken wire. He will injure himself just to escape. We are terrified he will get hurt or killed one day and its an almost daily occurrence working about him escaping. My child worries he will be hurt. He's a sweet boy but we aren't sure he's happy with us anymore. He is great with kids but really needs someone who will be home often to give him attention. When I had my first child, Ollie frequently urinated in the house. We put him through extensive training at Furry Tails, and now he heels on the leash during walks and will sit, stay, etc. We have a doggie door but since the birth of my second child, he has started to panic when the baby is crying and will revert back to old behaviors when stressed. He is an eccentric dog and is scared easily. He will cower and shake uncontrollably when something sizzles on the stove, something beeps or a storm is brewing. When there's a storm he will injure himself trying to escape a kennel. He really needs someone who can give him a lot of attention during these triggers and lots of walks if possible. He didn't get better with peeing and pooping in the house despite having a doggy door. He likes squeaky toys too. He is good with other dogs and honestly great with kids but maybe not with infants due to stress from crying. I love Ollie but I cannot give him the attention he deserves now with having two kids and I want him to be happy for the rest of his little life. Please consider adopting the nicest dog I have ever met. This pet is participating in the Dallas Pets Alive rehoming program. Story
Pictures will be posted when we have them.  This sweet doodle came to us as a breeder release, which means life as a family pet is all brand new to them. They are still learning about the world outside of a kennel setting and will need a patient, understanding home that is willing to give them time to adjust and build confidence at their own pace. They do best with routine, gentle guidance, and positive reinforcement. While initially shy or unsure in new situations, their personality continues to shine more each day. Many breeder-release dogs thrive in homes with another friendly, confident dog to help show them the ropes. He is crate trained, does well with other dogs, but is not comfident with leash skills. They are not a “plug-and-play” dog and will need time to decompress, but with consistency and love, they become incredibly loyal and affectionate companions. Adopters should understand that adjustment can take several weeks or longer, and moments of insecurity or hesitation are normal during this transition. The reward is watching a dog learn what it means to be safe, loved, and part of a family.
