Story
Twain is an 8-year-old sweet boy, about 38 lbs, who has been with us for about 6 months. He is very good natured and gets along great with our 8-year-old female standard poodle. They have become good buddies and enjoy play fighting, riding in the car, sharing the couch, and running our fence line racing the neighbor dogs (Twain is always last, but he doesn’t mind). He has not had any potty accidents in our house and is low maintenance. Our groomer has kept his shedding to a minimum. He is a medium energy dog, so he’s not your guy if you want a dog to join you mountain climbing. He walks well on a leash but is happy being a couch potato, too. Now for the bad part. A couple of weeks ago, Twain bit a relative. It was not a vicious attack (no broken skin) possibly caused by fear, but potential adopters need to be aware. We also believe that Twain would do better with a companion dog because of some separation anxiety he had in his previous foster home.

Please read dog's bio carefully before applying. Meet Maisey Maisey is a sweet, medium-energy pup with a gentle soul and a growing sense of confidence. She is still learning how to feel fully comfortable in unfamiliar environments, but she is making steady progress every day. With people, Maisey is affectionate, loving, and eager to connect. Once she feels safe and settled, she shows her soft, devoted nature and enjoys being close to her trusted humans. Maisey is dog-friendly and would do best with a canine companion to help guide her and build her confidence. She is also kid-friendly, making her a gentle presence in a calm, understanding home. Story
Xena, the 6-month-old purebred Mountain Cur, is a great choice for anyone searching for an intelligent and athletic furry friend. She enjoys playing and running around, and is gentle and affectionate towards other dogs. Although she may take some time to warm up to new people, once she does, you will receive an abundance of love and kisses. Xena had a bit of a rough start in life, as she was discovered alone under a building in SC when she was only 10 weeks old. However, she has made tremendous progress since then, and is now spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, housebroken, and heartworm negative. This furry beauty is currently on monthly preventative, ensuring her good health and happiness. If you are considering adopting Xena, it is strongly recommended that you have a fenced backyard, as she loves to run and play. Additionally, Xena would appreciate living with another dog, as she adores all of her foster siblings. Overall, Xena is an intelligent, athletic, and sweet pup that would be an excellent addition to any caring household. Story
Lionel is a handsome 1-year-old, 50-pound mixed-breed boy who’s ready to find his forever family! This beautiful pup has long legs, a slender build, and striking good looks—but his foster family will tell you that pictures simply don’t do him justice. When Lionel first came into foster care, he was a shy and nervous young dog, but he has made incredible progress and continues to gain confidence every day. With patience, encouragement, and a loving environment, he’s truly beginning to come out of his shell. He’s doing great with leash walking and is learning that the world isn’t such a scary place after all.Lionel is potty trained, has a gentle and loving heart, and gets along wonderfully with other dogs, who help boost his confidence. He’s also fantastic with cats and doesn’t bother them at all, making him an excellent addition to a multi-pet home. Lionel is good with kids as well and enjoys being part of a family. He absolutely loves to play and cuddle with other dogs.Because he’s still building confidence, Lionel would thrive with an adopter who understands that some dogs need a little extra time and reassurance to blossom. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for him as he continues to grow and gain confidence. If you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion and are willing to give this deserving boy the love and guidance he needs, Lionel may be the perfect match for you! Story
This new friend has just arrived! They have come to us either as a transfer from another shelter, being found as a stray, or have been surrendered to us by their owner. When our friends are new to us, we are typically unsure of their full background, litter box habits, comfort with handling, or experience with other pets or children. Our staff will spend some time reviewing any information provided by previous owners and spend some time with our new friend so that we can better update their biography. If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific cat but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! We may require all household members, including children, to come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
ABOUT SMURFETTE Smurfette is a gentle, sensitive girl who is still learning that the world isn't so scary. She came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Georgia when they no longer had space for her. Since arriving here, her confidence has grown, but she can be a bit of a nervous nellie and appreciates people who are willing to move at her pace. It may take a few soft words and some patience to earn her trust, but once she warms up, her sweet personality begins to shine through. Smurfette has been making wonderful progress, happily joining full walks and even showing curiosity toward other dogs. She recently enjoyed a calm greeting with a small dog, complete with tail wags and polite sniffs. When she feels safe, she's content to sit quietly with her favorite people, soaking up gentle pets and affection. Smurfette is looking for a patient, loving home that will help her continue building confidence and discovering just how good life can be!
