This friend has just arrived to us as a stray. When animals are found as strays, our staff will search for an owner. If no one comes to reclaim the pet, we will begin looking for a new home. Unfortunately, we rarely have a background on stray animals. Our staff will spend some time getting to know them and update their bio with more information as we learn. They are pending interactions with other animals until they have been cleared by our vet. Please note that we are often unsure of house, crate, car, and leash training status upon arrival. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! ABOUT BLAZE Blaze is a 5-year-old goofball looking for a fresh start! He came to HAP when his previous owners were moving and could no longer keep him. Having only ever known life in a home, adjusting to the shelter has been tough for Blaze, but he’s been making the best of it with his cheerful spirit! When Blaze first arrived, he tested positive for heartworm, but we’re happy to share that he has now completed treatment and is feeling so much better! As he’s regained his strength, his fun-loving personality has truly begun to shine. Blaze is a happy, enthusiastic pup who brings the hype wherever he goes. He loves playtime, long walks, and spending time with his doggy friends. At the shelter, he has thrived socially and enjoys meeting new furry pals. Blaze has also spent time in foster care and on outings away from the shelter, where he even met a cat. He tolerated a few warning swats and respectfully gave space, suggesting he may do well with a cat who sets clear boundaries. After some fun and social time, Blaze is more than happy to wind down for a cozy nap, whether that’s curled up on his bed or stretched out on the couch beside you. He’s a well-behaved boy who already knows several commands, including “sit,” “paw,” and “down.” Blaze is ready to leave shelter life behind and start his next chapter with a loving family who will appreciate his goofy charm and big heart! ABOUT CANTON Meet Canton, a super sweet boy who’s full of enthusiasm and affection! Canton came to HAP from a high-intake shelter in Louisiana when they no longer had space for him. This jumpy, playful guy is still working on his manners and would benefit from continued training to help him channel all that excitement. Canton loves food and toys, making him super motivated to learn! He’s been improving on leash with consistent walks, though he’ll need continued practice. Canton is super affectionate at heart and enjoys pets, cuddles, and quality time with his people. While we know he means well, due to his size and energy, Canton would do best with humans large enough to keep up with him, while teaching him calm, polite behaviors. With guidance, structure, and love, Canton has all the makings of an amazing companion! "I had Canton today! Located in Tennessee but can be transported to you through Rescue Riders. Jumbo was brought in with other puppies found as strays. He is a wonderful boy!! Friendly, happy and just a gentle pup. He gets along with other pups and has no issues with strangers or kids. He is curious and likes to see what's going on. He is learning how to use a dog door but will need puppy training. He is ready to find a forever family.

We are sad to have to rehome our pup, who we adopted when he was one year old. He is a sweet but anxious dog and is not thriving in our home with two young children. He has been medicated for anxiety, which has helped a lot, but we have to keep him separated from the kids at all times. He would prefer a quiet home with adults and may do well with another dog. We live in the city, and he would likely thrive in a less urban environment and with a fenced in yard. He can resource guard high value treats or his cozy spot on the couch, but he is primarily anxious and fearful, not aggressive. We want to find the right fit and would be open to doing an overnight trial for a potential adopter. Happy to answer other questions!
