Story
We are sad to have to rehome our pup, who we adopted when he was one year old. He is a sweet but anxious dog and is not thriving in our home with two young children. He has been medicated for anxiety, which has helped a lot, but we have to keep him separated from the kids at all times. He would prefer a quiet home with adults and may do well with another dog. We live in the city, and he would likely thrive in a less urban environment and with a fenced in yard. He can resource guard high value treats or his cozy spot on the couch, but he is primarily anxious and fearful, not aggressive. We want to find the right fit and would be open to doing an overnight trial for a potential adopter. Happy to answer other questions!

Story
ABOUT STRIPE Stripe is a 7-year-old brindle beauty with so much love to give! She came to HAP after being found wandering by the staff at Brandywine Zoo. Despite being in the shelter, Miss Stripe is just happy to make new friends! Stripe is a gentle, well-behaved, and affectionate girl. She loves going for long walks or letting her zoomies out in our fenced fields. Stripe is also very food-motivated and eager to learn, and she already knows basic commands. She has thrived participating in our Doggy Day Out program, where volunteers explore the world with her! Here’s what a few volunteers had to say about her: “She was an absolute sweetheart & did so good being around young kids! We went to carousel park, walked about an hour or hour and a half then came back to the apartment to relax for bit then she climbed to the passenger side to curl up for a short nap on the ride to drop her off lol. She knows the commands sit, paw & lay down. She wasn’t reactive to other dogs, mostly just looked but kept on walking. Overall an amazing day & would be a great addition to a family!” - Leanna “She is such a sweet and patient dog. We took a little drive, went for a Pupcup, hung out at our house for a bit, then went to PetSmart, and Bellevue State Park. At lunch, she did great with my daughter and didn't even try to eat any of our food. At PetSmart she got lots of treats including a toy and a bandana, which she proudly wore. She loved running around at Bellevue and was happy to walk on the path and sniff all the smells. She checked out the ponies and donkeys at the park but really wasn't phased by them. There were lots of families and kids running around and she just wanted to join in the fun! She is really good with kids and just wants to love everyone she meets. We had a great time with Stripe and hope she finds a family as lovely as she is!” - Melissa If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Story
This puppy has just arrived! They have come to us on transport from a shelter partner, were found as stray, or surrendered to our care by an owner. Puppies require a significant amount of structure, routine, time, patience, and training to learn how to behave properly in a home. The first few months of having a puppy is a critical time to establish boundaries and help your puppy understand what they can expect from you and what you expect from them. Remember, puppies aren’t born knowing how to live in a human’s world, it is up to you to teach them how to make good decisions in a positive and caring manner. The more positive interactions they have in their first year of life will set them up for better behavior in the future. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Please read dog's bio carefully before applying. Meet Rumi Rumi is a sweet, medium-energy pup with a gentle soul and a growing spark of confidence. She is still learning how to feel fully comfortable in unfamiliar environments, but every day she shows just how brave she truly is. With people, Rumi is affectionate, loving, and eager to connect. Once she feels safe with you, she blossoms into a soft, devoted companion who enjoys closeness and reassurance. Rumi is dog-friendly and would do best with a canine companion to help guide her and build her confidence. She is also kid-friendly, making her a gentle presence in a calm, understanding home. She is still working on her leash skills and improving each day. Because she is building confidence in new environments, a home with a fenced yard is most likely the best fit for her, giving her a safe space to explore at her own pace. Rumi is a soft-hearted girl who is just beginning to discover how good life can be. With patience, stability, and love, she will continue growing into an incredibly devoted companion.
