Twist Tie arrived as if he’d misplaced the invitation to our house and was thrilled to finally have the address again. This 9–10 month old, 8-pound Terrier mix came bouncing out of the shelter like he’d been our best friend for years, promptly charming every intake volunteer within a five-foot radius. It was less of an introduction and more of a reunion tour. Affectionately known as Twisty, he starts his day around 7am when we get him out of his crate and head straight out for a walk. Morning stroll complete, he returns home ready to unleash his true calling: Director of Recreation. Fetch? Yes. Tug? Absolutely. Parade around the house proudly carrying a toy twice his size? Naturally. After an enthusiastic play session, he enjoys breakfast — which he either devours like it’s a competitive sport or casually grazes on, depending on the vibe of the day. Twisty's typical day includes: frequent walks, spontaneous play breaks, and a lunchtime no-hide bone that he gnaws with intense dedication until the very last molecule disappears. Dinner is served around 6:30pm, followed by more games, couch cuddles, and a few final walks before bedtime. Around 10:30pm, he receives a frozen Kong to help him wind down for the night. Personality-wise, Twisty is the embodiment of happy-go-lucky. From the moment he arrived, he was friendly, outgoing, and eager to meet any person, dog, cat, or suspicious-looking leaf that crossed his path. There was no awkward adjustment period — he settled in immediately, frolicking, licking, wagging, and generally acting like he’d always lived here. Two weeks later, that joyful exuberance hasn’t dimmed in the slightest. He prefers to be in the same room as his people and will happily trail after you from space to space, but he’s also perfectly capable of entertaining himself with a toy while simply sharing your company. In the afternoons, he loves to curl up on the couch for a recharge nap before gearing up for his next adventure. Twisty is playful and energetic in that classic puppy way — always scanning the horizon for something fun to chew, chase, or carry. He’s curious about everything and approaches life with the enthusiasm of someone who just discovered the world exists and intends to explore all of it. He lives with a cat and is absolutely fascinated by her. He would love nothing more than to play, though she has made it clear — via gentle, claw-free baps — that she prefers to maintain certain boundaries. To his credit, he has learned to mostly respect those limits. He’s also met numerous dogs on walks and greets them with confident tail wags, even when they’re ten times his size. Off-leash in a backyard with a somewhat grumpy dog named Milo, Twisty did beautifully, backing off respectfully after a few warning growls. He’s social, but he listens. On leash, he started out a bit clueless — as though the concept of being tethered to a human was an entirely new and confusing development. But he’s learning quickly. He may still pull occasionally or stop suddenly to contemplate life, but he’s becoming a solid little walking companion. He wants to say hello to dogs he sees in the distance and typically doesn’t bark unless they bark first — in which case he feels it would be rude not to respond. Twisty loves to chew, especially when bored, and will test out new objects if given the opportunity. Fortunately, he responds well to redirection and understands a firm “No.” He doesn’t bark much during the day, aside from the occasional startling noise or a brief disagreement with his reflection in the window. His ideal home would be one that embraces his social, playful spirit and offers him the enrichment and companionship he thrives on. He would do well with a single person, a family, or a home with another playful dog. He truly enjoys being part of the action and would flourish in an environment where he’s included in daily life. What sets Twist Tie apart is his sheer joy. He has already developed a devoted fan club in the apartment complex and is something of a local celebrity. At a recent potluck, he was the undeniable star of the show. One neighbor has even begun creating movie posters starring himself and Twisty as a dynamic duo. It’s safe to say this little dog has main-character energy. Twist Tie may be small enough to fit in your lap, but his personality is full-sized. He’s charming, affectionate, endlessly friendly, and wired for happiness. Whoever adopts him won’t just be getting a dog — they’ll be getting a daily dose of laughter, enthusiasm, and unconditional devotion, neatly wrapped up in eight pounds of Terrier brilliance.March 1, 2026, 12:21 pm
