Story
If you grew up reading about dogs who were man's best friend, a companion for adventures, a sidekick through and through, Sydney might be the dog for you. Sydney is a delightful mix of fun-loving, adventurous couch potato. Sydney loves to play with toys and shred her stuffies. She is working on learning the rules of fetch and LOVES running through the pool. She can get a little worked up when playing and forgets to keep all four feet on the floor, but we are working on that. When out on walks, Sydney can get concerned about being left behind, so she prefers to be in the middle or the front of the group. She's been practicing her loose-leash heel work to help her orient to her handler during walks. Sydney will try anything for her friends, at least once! She's been building confidence in our training center, working on obstacles there and out on walks. She loves to climb up where she can be closer to you, like the picnic tables. Once her needs are met with exercise, training, or enrichment, Sydney is content to doze nearby. As far as her suggested breeds, we think this is pretty calm for a husky mix. Sydney's FOMO and fear of being left behind isn't limited to walks, as she can sometimes be distraught when left behind during lunch break at the kennel. However, she is much more content when she has had a fulfilling morning. While we have not had any instances of Sydney escaping, the shelter noted that she would climb fences to go find her own entertainment when left alone. She is more handler-orientated than escape-focused. Hey there, it's me Honey! 🐺 I'm a sassy husky with a brain that's off the charts (modest, right?). I've got my own thing going on, so you'll need to be a strong pack leader or I'll be running the show (just saying). When I'm not being a goofball, I love to nose-boop you and play the most epic game of keep-away with my doggo friends. Oh, and squeakers? Forget about it, I'll run a marathon for one! 🏃‍♀️ My humans are my jam, and I'm obsessed with beef liver treats (drooling just thinking about it) and butt scratches (don't judge me). Just FYI, fish is a no-go for me, and loud noises freak me out (kids might be a bit much, but let's meet and see). I take a hot second to warm up, but once I do, I'm a total lovergirl. 🐾 Oh, and did I mention I'm faster than fast? Like, I can sniff out treats in 2 seconds flat (it's a talent, really). I'm all about that exercise life, but Netflix and chill (literally) is also my vibe. Miss Jamie here is a work in progress. She came to us after a wonderful human brought her to our attention out in Toutle, WA. She had been running at large with 2 other huskies, one which was caught several weeks before, and the third hasn't been seen in weeks. We sent a trap up to the property owner and she trapped that night. She has been here ever since. Jamie loves cheese and loves cheese. Did I mention how much she loves cheese?!🤣 Will bark at you for cheese. 🤣 She is so gentle taking treats! But her being so treat motivated has helped us to gain her trust. She is quite vocal. Solid with other dogs and loves to play with other dogs! She loves balls and can entertain herself with balls but she is definitely more confident when another dog is around. She'll need another dog in a home to help her learn how to dog and be more comfortable around humans. Our Volunteers say, "She follows me around more often now in the big park, will lick my hand. But she's still pretty wary of human touch. I love when she gets vocal as she sounds sassy, and I feel like I can have a conversation with her!🤣 She still needs a lot of work to trust humans but I have hope for her. I love her beautiful, blue eyes." She is stunningly beautiful, gentle, and did we say she loves other dogs! She is still wary of humans. She is highly trainable and is responding well to positive reinforcement training. She LOVES playing in water. She will require a home with a 6' fenced yard. She will require a drag line after adoption for a while, even with a fenced yard. She does like to play keep away on occasion. But if she likes you, she comes when she is called. She will be a wonderful addition to a family with another dog.
