Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Lagoon is a three year old neutered male cat, up to date on his vaccinations. Here's what his foster volunteer says about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality?  Lagoon is a sweet boy who takes time to come out of his shell, but is a great companion once he trusts you.  It took us nearly a month to gain his trust, but now he enjoys spending time with us and absolutely loves being petted.  He is very food driven, and feeding him is the fastest way to strengthen your bond with him.  He gets along great with other cats as well as calm, cat-friendly dogs. Does the cat enjoy being pet?  Yes, Lagoon absolutely loves being pet!  Keep in mind it will take time before he is comfortable being approached, but after a few weeks he'll start coming over looking for attention.  He leans into his pets and purrs the whole time. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?  He loves being petted everywhere, but his favorite spots are behind his ears, under his chin, and the base of his tail.   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?  None that we've noticed! Does the cat come on your lap?  No, he hasn't tried to come onto our laps yet. Does the cat like to be held?  He doesn't exactly like being held, but he does tolerate it.  Usually we can pick Lagoon up for about 5 seconds before he starts to squirm. Does the cat sleep in your bed?  No, but it's only been a few days since we started letting him out of his foster room. Does the cat seek your attention?  Yes, Lagoon loves to get attention!  He'll usually meow and walk over to us for pets when he's feeling lonely.  He'll also often come to us if we call his name and snap our fingers, although this is a recent development that took weeks to build up to. Does the cat like to play?  Not yet with us, but I believe he was playful with his previous fosters.  When I pick up a toy while petting him, he usually gets startled and runs away briefly. How vocal is the cat?  He was almost silent for the first few months he lived with us, but since gaining confidence, he is more vocal.  He'll meow when he's excited for pets, or if he's done eating and ready to leave his foster room where we feed him. What kinds of sounds does the cat make?  He has a really cute meow, but he'll also purr deeply when he's being pet. Does the cat scratch a scratcher?  We've never seen Lagoon use a scratcher in front of us, but the ones in his room appear to be used. Does the cat always use the litter box?  Yes, Lagoon is always good about using the litter box. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?  We feed him a healthy portion of dry food in the morning, then one can of Fancy Feast wet food in the evening.  He has no dietary restrictions or need for a special diet. Is the cat picky about food?  No, he eats absolutely everything! What is the cat's favorite treat?  His favorites are Churu treats!  That is how I got him to come out of his closet to receive pets for the first time.  It might take 3-4 weeks before he has the confidence for this though, as Lagoon struggles with transitions. What medication is the cat on, and how is it administered?  Lagoon is not on any medication at this time. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?  No Lagoon has never swatted at us.  His primary way of showing he's uncomfortable is to hiss, which he did early on if we got too close before he was ready. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?  No, Lagoon has never scratched us. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you?  No, he has never nipped us. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)?  No Lagoon has never bitten us. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?  He has not met any new people since living with us, but my guess is that he would be initially shy and would hide.   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on?  He enjoys the company of our two adult female cats as well as our three-year-old Labrador retriever.  Introductions and integration were fairly easy, although Lagoon is easily startled.  He hissed at our cats a few times when they ran past him, startling him, but this has improved a lot as he gets more comfortable.  He likes being around our pets but doesn't directly interact with them or play with them. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?  Lagoon has a cute white patch on his chest and a little white highlight on the side of his tail.  He loves to be petted and will purr the entire time.  When he's really enjoying the petting, he will head butt you to show how happy he is.  He's got a cute meow when he's seeking attention, but he's a generally quiet cat. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?  Lagoon is a sweet, affectionate boy who enjoys the attention of his humans, even though it takes time for him to trust them.  If you enjoy a cat who loves to be petted, Lagoon is your guy!  One of his ears has been clipped, which is usually signals that the cat was once outside, although I don't know much about his history.  Regardless of his apparently difficult past, he has learned to trust humans, although he is understandably cautious at first.  Lagoon is ready for his forever home where he can settle and become comfortable, without the constant change and upheaval he's dealt with his whole life. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?  The biggest challenge with Lagoon is his initial shyness and difficulty with transitions.  He struggles with change and confinement, so the first few weeks of his adoption will require some patience.  He spent nearly the first month he lived with us hiding in the open closet in his foster room, and would hiss if we approached too closely.  Through patience and letting Lagoon interact on his own terms, he eventually began coming out of his closet to eat in front of us, and not long after that, he starting enjoying pets from us.  Food is definitely the way to Lagoon's heart!  Whoever adopts Lagoon will need to understand it will take several weeks before he is entirely comfortable, but the trust that will form is what makes rescuing this cat so rewarding.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  July 2, 2026, 12:27 pm

Story

Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Waffles is incredibly affectionate and quite talkative. He loves to be petted and to cuddle up to his humans. When he feels playful (which is not super often) he loves to play hide and seek! Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes.  If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Everywhere! He loves to be stroked from head to tail and appreciates head scratches. While napping he'll often show me his belly and doesn't mind being pet there either. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? No.  Does the cat come on your lap? No, not directly sitting on my lab but he likes to sleep cuddled up by my side. Does the cat like to be held? No, but he will tolerate it. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes.  Does the cat seek your attention? Yes. Does the cat like to play? Sometimes. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He likes to play hide and seek, his favorite toy is anything on or with a string. How vocal is the cat? Very much.    What kinds of sounds does the cat make? He mostly meows, and loves to chirp at birds outside. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes. If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. If no, please explain. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? He's currently solely on dry food.   Is the cat picky about food? No, he will outright ask for dinner when he knows it's almost time. What is the cat's favorite treat? He likes any chicken flavored treat.   What medication is the cat on, and how is it administered? N/A Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He is quite social even with new people.   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? N/A Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He is very curious about the outside world and will not hesitate to let you know. He also subconsciously kneads the air with his paws whenever he is getting pets in bed (it is the cutest thing ever especially because of his thumbs). In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Waffles is a loyal companion who is only ever seeking affection and the best window sill view. He loves to talk to his preferred humans and gets so excited for a bedtime cuddle. He is a very warm cat and lives a super low maintenance lifestyle. For the most part you can find him curled up on his cat tree looking out the window while enjoying the summer breeze.  What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Sometimes he will get very vocal especially when looking out an open window. This can lead to higher energy levels at night time so before bed I close the windows while leaving the blinds open and the seems to keep him calm.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  July 2, 2026, 12:27 pm

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Bari and Gigi are a strongly bonded pair of female cats, spayed and up to date on vaccines. Bari has a larger white locket and is estimated to be around 9 months old. Gigi has a smaller white locket and is estimated to be 1 year old. They must go home together. Here’s what their foster volunteer says about them: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Bari is very friendly and playful. She can be a bit skittish at times, but typically is eager for interaction, loves pets and playing. She is very protective of Gigi, sitting next to the food bowl or litterbox while Gigi is using it, and the two can often be found chattering to each other as they go together to eat or rest. Gigi has really come out of her shell. She is still the more shy one of the two and prefers to be approached slowly, but will happily purr, accept pets and headbutt my hand, particularly around meal or treat times. They both make significant social gains with each passing week, revealing more and more of their very affectionate personalities. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Both cats very much enjoy being pet. They prefer to be approached calmly and from a sitting position. Head/chin scratches are favored. They both love to be brushed. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? No Does the cat come on your lap? Bari will very briefly venture onto my lap or stay there for a minute when placed. Gigi is not yet comfortable enough. Does the cat like to be held? Bari doesn't mind being carried for short periods of time, but will eventually want to jump down to go play. Gigi tolerates being picked up for short distances, which is a substantial change from when I got her. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Bari enjoys jumping on my bed and laying down next to me, or occasionally on me. She switches quickly between cuddly and playful. She typically sleeps curled up with Gigi in their bed. Gigi will lay on the bed when I’m not there. Does the cat seek your attention? Bari more so than Gigi will seek attention. Bari loves pets and playing. Gigi definitely enjoys pets, but is more nervous and so has taken more time to come out of her shell. Does the cat like to play? They both love playing and will spend a lot of time playing with each other or with me. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? They absolutely love wand toys and will jump and dash around for anything on a string. How vocal is the cat? They are extremely vocal, both to me and to each other. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Bari in particular is full of kitten-esque squeaking when I come home and when she is waiting for food. They both chatter and coo to each other very frequently, often preceding a group trip to another room or to food. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Bari uses the scratcher frequently. I have not yet seen Gigi use one. If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, always. Even in the early days when they were more tentative about venturing around the house, they would always use the litter box. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? They both get a 3oz can of wet food in the morning and a snack of wet food in the evening. They share 1 cup of dry food twice daily. Is the cat picky about food? No What is the cat's favorite treat? They absolutely love Churu and Temptations. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? They have never swatted. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Gigi has scratched in the process of trying to escape when being put in a carrier, but never appeared to show aggression in any way. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Bari will nip while playing occasionally Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. She did bite a previous Foster Volunteer while being pushed into a carrier. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? They are both nervous around new people, but can be coaxed out with food/treats. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? It’s a joy to watch them interact with each other – they will lay on top of each other, headbutt/rub against each other and chatter throughout the day. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? These cats will need a patient and invested new family to bring out their clearly affectionate personalities as they acclimate to indoor, social life. The best part has been watching them grow more comfortable and show more of their personalities. One day, Bari started jumping up on my bed when I wasn’t there, and by the end of the day they were sleeping there together and later that night Bari jumped up for pets. With each passing week they become more outgoing and friendly. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? They are both skittish in the setting of their prior outdoor life. They have adapted remarkably well and it has been fun to watch them become more comfortable with each passing week. Letting them interact on their own terms has proved very effective in drawing out their personalities. Bari has juvenile periodontitis and may need a full extraction in the future. The vets who have treated her so far feel she's too young to undergo that procedure prior to adoption. Gigi has a dislocated ankle that could be fine forever or could shift and need a realignment surgery down the road. Black Cat Rescue is willing to help financially with these procedures in order to ensure Bari and Gigi get the chance they deserve.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  July 2, 2026, 12:27 pm
