I would describe Cora as curious, thoughtful, and cautious. For the first month, it wasn’t even a possibility to pet her but now I can freely pet her on the head and back, usually as she eats. I have never tried patting elsewhere. She has not come on my lap, but when I sit down, she comes up to me and sniffs. I have not tried to hold her. She does sleep on my bed on occasion and she definitely seeks my attention: running to the door when I leave the room, staring at me from her tree and reaching her paw out anytime I’m close by. She loves to play with the toy fish with the bell inside that I bought her. She loves the top two levels of the cat tree and she LOVES lying on her Hello Kitty bed. Cora isn’t particularly vocal. She will chirp when you are nearby and then meow. When you get close, it usually stops. She does use the scratcher. She has always used the litter box, with one exception where she tinkled on the rug. Cora loves her food and is not picky! She eats only wet food usually, twice a day. She loves churu treats, freeze dried chicken and occasionally temptations. When Cora first arrived she swatted almost constantly and was very fearful. After a month, she swatted less and less and now she never does. She has scratched me before, but again that was early on. I’ve never been bitten. These past few weeks, she showed she was ready to trust again and is starting to show her personality! She also seems to like sitting with my cat. I recently spent a night away from home and a friend fed the cats. She said that Cora was very sweet and when she arrived in the room, she was on the tree and just stared at her. She put her arm out with no claws and jumped down to get her food. No hissing no swatting. Cora so desperately wants to connect, love and trust—you can see it in her. When she reaches her paw out, when she jumps down when I walk in the room, when she begins exploring and feeling comfy enough to curl up on the bed. Anyone who is patient enough & privileged enough to earn her love will be repaid a thousand times over. They need to realize that she just needs time and consistency. Even after all she’s been through, she’s not afraid to keep trying and opening her heart. Even if it takes a while, it’ll be worth the effort.
