Story
Anubis is a 2–3-year-old Plott Hound mix who was saved from Animal Care & Control just in time, with his euthanasia deadline quickly approaching. He’s a scared boy with a huge heart, and since coming into rescue, he’s been working hard to learn that the world can be a safe place. We want to be completely transparent about Anubis because finding the right home for him is about more than finding someone who thinks he’s cute. It’s about finding someone who truly understands him, sees his potential, and is willing to put in the work to help him succeed.
Anubis is a fearful dog who lacks confidence, and **he is a bite risk when he feels scared or overwhelmed.** This is something we take seriously, and we want to ensure any potential adopter fully understands his needs before moving forward. Anubis is not a dog for a first-time owner or someone looking for an easy, carefree adoption. He needs an experienced, committed person who understands fearful dogs, is familiar with the needs of his breed, and is willing to respect his boundaries while continuing to help him build confidence. He requires an adult-only home with no children.
But here’s what we want you to know about Anubis: underneath that fear is a dog who absolutely LOVES his people. As he learns to trust, his sweet personality shines through, and the bond he forms with his trusted humans is incredibly special. He is not a bad dog. He is a scared dog who is still learning how to navigate the world, and he needs someone who understands that progress takes time, patience, and consistency.
The other good news? **Anubis will not have to navigate this journey alone.** We have been working with Obedient K9, and they are willing to work with both Anubis and his future adopter to set them up for success. Sloan & Finn Animal Rescue will cover his training program, which includes 7 full days of training at their facility, 7 one-on-one training sessions, and lifetime access to group classes. Graduated dogs also have access to their boarding services. This is a significant commitment of support that we are thrilled to be able to offer his future family. We want his adopter to have the professional guidance, tools, and ongoing resources needed to help Anubis thrive.
Anubis is crate trained, house trained, and leash trained. He is dog friendly with appropriate introductions and needs time to feel comfortable when meeting new canine friends. His compatibility with cats is unknown. He is looking for an experienced adopter who will allow him to decompress, learn at his own pace, recognize his stress signals, and continue building a relationship based on trust.
Anubis may not be the right dog for everyone, and we know that. But for the right person, he could be an incredibly rewarding companion. We are looking for someone who understands that loving a fearful dog means meeting them where they are, celebrating the little victories, and being willing to put in the work even when progress isn't linear. Anubis deserves a chance to keep growing, and we are committed to supporting the right person who is willing to give him that chance.
Anubis is currently located in the Charlotte area and is looking for an experienced, committed adopter who will see beyond his fear and help him build a brighter future.
His adoption fee is $350.

Hey, I’m Anubis. I know I’m not the easiest guy to get to know, and I want to be honest about that. Sometimes the world feels really scary to me, and when I get overwhelmed, I don’t always know how to handle it. I’m still learning, and every day I’m working on being a little braver.
But when I trust you? You get to see a whole different side of me. I LOVE my people, and having someone I feel safe with means everything to me. I just need someone who understands that I might need a little more time, a little more patience, and a lot of consistency.
My rescue is even offering to cover a whole training program for me and my future person, so we can learn together and have professional support along the way. I know I have work to do, and I need someone who is ready to do that work with me. I’m looking for an experienced person who understands dogs like me and won't expect me to change overnight.
