Story
Hello, my name is Bandit, and I am a 2 years young mixed breed - maybe an English Pointer / Foxhound mix? I weigh 40 lbs, and I’m a lean, athletic type. I was found as a stray in rural Kentucky and no one claimed me at the shelter after 60 days, so Treasured Animal Rescue brought me to a foster home.
Because I am still a young dog, I have very youthful energy. If you’re looking for a running or power walking buddy, I’m your guy!! Despite my energy, I am a very quiet boy in the house.
I know what toys are, and I’ll shred a stuffy to pieces in a few hours. I enjoy chewing on the nylabones at my foster home. I also like to play tug-of-war with one of the other dogs at my foster house.
You might notice that my tail is blurry in most of my pictures. That’s because my tail is always wagging. I am a happy and loving guy. First thing in the morning when I wake up, I’m really happy to see my humans, and I wag my tail and roll over for belly rubs. I love to snuggle on the couch with my chin in your lap. Whether it's snuggling on the couch, getting belly rubs, laying under your desk or enjoying brisk walks together, I just want to be with my humans.
I am totally housebroken, and I’m good on a leash. Get ready to get your heartrate up during our walks because I walk FAST, and probably because of my hunting dog instincts, I’m very interested in the birds and squirrels along the way. I also enjoy running around in the fenced yard at my foster house.
So far, I haven’t met any kids other than the teenagers at my foster home. However, I’m so sweet and loving with humans, I’d probably be good with school aged kids.
My foster home has 3 other dogs, and I do OK with them, but it was a little overwhelming at first to figure out my place in that pack. However, I have a favorite who likes to play. So, if my forever home has a female dog about my age who likes to play, I would like that! Otherwise, I could also be an only dog for an active family who wouldn’t leave me alone too much.
My foster family takes me on at least 3 walks a day. My foster mom says I’m doing really well – I don’t usually pull unless something spooks me. After spending the first part of my life in rural Kentucky, I’m still figuring out that the garbage truck and the delivery trucks are OK and won’t hurt me. My new family should be ready to reassure me and let me know I’m OK when I encounter a new sound that may by unfamiliar, because I look to my humans to let me know how to react.
One day a family is going to come meet me, says my foster family. And, when you do can expect that I may be a little uncertain at first, but I’m probably wag my tail and let you pet me pretty quickly. Before you know it, I’ll be zooming around your backyard, snuggling with you on the couch and giving you reason to get outside and get some exercise with me!
I would be happiest in a home where someone is home with me most of the time – like a stay at home parent, or a work from home person – so that I don’t have to be crated all day. I do sometimes bark when I’m alone, so no shared walls or apartment living for me. I need a chew toy or nylabone to keep me occupied, too.
If you have a fenced yard that I can run around in, that’s even better. And – remember - if you’re looking for a great running or power walking buddy, that is me!
I am such a young, sweet, loving dog that my foster mom says that any family will be lucky to have me and I’ll make a great pet for a family. When you meet me, you will see that I just want to be loved and safe. Will you give me an active, loving, forever home?
Thanks!
Bandit
