Story
I'm 53lbs, and I am seeking my forever home! Adoption Donation: $450 Meet Mia! This sweet, friendly Pointer/Boxer mix has a warm and loving personality. Mia enjoys being around people and is happy to greet just about anyone she meets, making her a joy to have by your side. She is house-trained and does well with other dogs and kids, making her a wonderful fit for an active but balanced home. Mia has a bit of extra energy and enthusiasm—especially when meeting new people—but she settles nicely and enjoys both playtime and quiet moments. When the day winds down, Mia truly loves to cuddle and soak up affection. She is looking for a home that will appreciate her loving nature and give her the chance to continue growing into a confident, happy companion. In return, she’ll offer loyalty, love, and plenty of sweet moments. All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. An application is required to view our adoptable pets. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are recommended. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are not put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. Story
Meet Dean!  Dean is an almost 1 yr old Pointer/hound mix with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. He’s very much still a puppy at heart — energetic, curious, and always ready for his next adventure. Dean is currently working on basic manners like sit and “nice,” and he’s learning quickly with treats and consistency. One of Dean’s absolute favorite things in the world is cuddling. If you’re hoping for personal space during movie night… Dean may not be your guy . He will happily climb into your lap, shower you with kisses, and then flop over for belly rubs, channeling some serious Puss in Boots puppy-eyes energy. When he’s done loving on you, he’ll settle in close by — or sprawl out dramatically on the couch or bed. Dean is doing well with potty training and will use puppy pads and go outside. He does get very excited when greeting his people and may have an excited pee, so quick trips outside right after greetings work best for him. He’s still learning how to manage big feelings, but he’s trying! True to his puppy status, Dean is a chewer. Toys, kid items, and anything left within reach are fair game, so supervision and plenty of appropriate chew toys are important. He’s also very curious — including about things he probably shouldn’t be interested in — so a tidy home and guidance will help set him up for success. Dean loves other dogs and enjoys playing and cuddling with them. If one dog goes on an adventure, Dean will happily tag along — and come back together. Cats are still a question mark; he wants to play, but may be a bit much for cats who prefer lounging and being admired from a distance. Dean would thrive in an active home that can provide exercise, structure, training, and lots of affection. In return, you’ll get a hilarious, loving, loyal companion who believes there’s no such thing as too much togetherness. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, and endlessly entertaining pup who will keep you laughing and loved, Dean may be your perfect match   If you are interested in adopting/meeting this pup , please complete our online adoption application that you can find here: https://www.starfishanimalrescue.com/adopt/dog-adoption-application  . Your application will be reviewed by our team and if it is a good fit, we will send to the foster family to set up a meet! The adoption fee of $400 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: Although we do our best to describe breed, since our pups all come from shelters we can not and will not make any guarantee on breed or size. We can tell you that they are 100% RESCUED! And that is the BEST breed! *please note that we are a foster home based rescue and we do home visits as part of the adoption process - we are unable to adopt to families who live outside of the Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Story
Meet Lacey, a stunning young dog as beautiful as freshly fallen snow. She is approximately a year and a half old and may be a pointer mix. Lacey is full of joyful energy and absolutely adores her toys, playtime with her foster brother, and spending time outdoors exploring the yard. Because she loves being outside and staying active, a securely fenced yard is a must, with a six-foot fence required. Lacey is a big fan of treats, enjoys the company of kids, and balances her playful side with a love for snuggling. She is both crate trained and house trained, making her a wonderful companion for a family ready to give her the space, structure, and affection she thrives on. The adoption fee of $300 will include spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate/required vaccinations, treatment for heartworm and any other necessary medical treatment to assure a healthy new pup for your family. Story
Billie is an adorable young mix, thought to be a Pointer/Aussie/Lab mix. She’s about 44 lbs, a bit on the lean side currently. And estimated at 4 years old. Billie joined us from a very horrible neglectful situation. She along with eight other dogs was rescued from a trailer, after the owner of the trailer was taken to a mental health facility. All dogs were starved; two were starved to death. Billie was one of the survivors, but barely so. She was skin and bones when joining our rescue program….and a look of hopelessness filled her eyes. During the last several weeks that Billie has been in her BAARK foster home, she has made notable progress, gaining weight, looking better, feeling more confident, and showing us some pep in her step! She’s even starting to play with other dogs. An ideal home and family for Billie is one who can understand her past and give her the time and space she needs to continue to build her confidence, and blossom into a loving, playful girl that she deserves to be. Good nutrition is very important given her past. Billie obviously is good with other dogs but the preferred home for Billie would be as an only dog, or with another calm friendly dog. She’d love a secure fenced yard where she could run, play, and exercise. She is scared of quick movements at this time, so smaller children would likely be overwhelming to her; older children should be fine. If you would like to consider Billie for a member of your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. Note that BAARK is located in the NW Suburbs of Chicago and adopts local to our area.
