Story
Hi, I'm Diva! Thanks for checking me out! I know my cute face is hard to resist, but here's the scoop: I'll need a lot of your time and attention as I grow up into the amazing adult dog I'm destined to be! I'm looking for a forever family that will help me with socialization, training (yes, that includes house training!), and plenty of exercise. And let's not forget the chewing and teething-I'm still learning what's okay (and what's definitely not okay) to put in my mouth. So, be ready for some puppy-proofing! Don't forget those vet visits! I'll need to stay up to date on my boosters and vaccines, which means a few trips to see my favorite vet in the first few months. But trust me, all that effort will be worth it when you experience the endless love, puppy kisses, and pure joy I'll bring into your life. So, if you're up for the challenge and the fun, why not come meet me in person? Stop by during our adoption hours. For more details, email info@ahconnects.org or give us a call at 847-697-2880 x: 0. The friendly folks here will be happy to answer all your questions! Can't wait to meet you and start our adventure together! Our dogs and puppies go home spayed/neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (7 months and over), and up to date on core vaccines, heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Their adoption also includes a free-vet exam at one of our participating veterinarians.

Story
Click here for Elvis's Facebook Album March 18: Elvis' dental and neuter are done. He did well, lost 4 teeth and we are doing a biopsy on his potential scrotal tumor. What a sweet boy, that just needed some TLC. With heartworm slow kill, we'll test at 8 months and see where he is at, hopefully he'll be negative by then, but oftentimes it takes longer. We are taking our time with him especially since he is also infected with Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Glad he came to IBR otherwise that would have been missed. We are looking for a foster or foster to adopt home for him in the Chicago area with a safe fenced in yard. Heartworm slow kill treatment is super easy and so much easier on the dogs we rescue. Our adoption or foster app can be found at www.helpibr.org March 2025: Elvis was left outside the city jail in a cage in Tompkinsville, KY a few weeks ago. The jail is sometimes used as the local humane society. He was in terrible shape, extremely thin and frightened. We worked for a few weeks to line up transport and in that time it was discovered that Elvis was infected with heartworms and he had a sore on his testicles. The great folks in Kentucky got his vaccinations done and also got him started on heartworm slow kill. In between some nasty weather, and some plane electrical problems, Elvis was driven to Louisville, KY and then flown to the Chicago suburbs by Captain David Tan. His latest exam and bloodwork shows that Elvis is also fighting 3 tick borne diseases- Ehrlichia, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. We got a closer look at his teeth- which were in terrible shape and Elvis also has an enlarged testicle besides a cyst. This poor dog has suffered some terrible neglect but while we are in the search for a longer term foster, he is being cared for and loved on by our good friends at Tail Gate for Dogs in Elmhurst. As Dr. Rimkunas didn't rule out testicular cancer, I have his neuter and dental set up for March 18th and we could really use some donations to help with his ongoing medical care. Story
Lulu is a Pointer (English) and not a German Shorthaired Pointer-- they are similar but different. I add GSP to give our Pointers a little more exposure. Click here for Lulu's Facebook Recovery Album April 13, 2025: Look how great little Miss Lulu is looking 2 + months into IBR's program. She's filled out so nicely but she loves to eat!! Lulu is ready to find her foster to adopt home in the Chicago area as she still needs her spay in June. Her teeth look great and she no longer needs a dental. She really is a silly little bouncy Pointer. March 2, 2025: Lulu has been doing well in foster care, eating well, living indoors and wearing 1 or 2 coats when she goes outside. She's also made a few doggie friends. Next step is her spay in a few weeks; we wanted to put a few more pounds on her and also treat her Rocky Mountain spotted fever a little bit longer prior to any surgery. She loves her cage as that is her safe place and while she doesn't have a lot of freedom in the house, house-training is going pretty well. The perfect home for Lulu would have a confident easy going dog buddy and I'm not sure about small kids. She is a little 24lb pocket Pointer that is so happy to be off the chain she was on in Texas and has the cutest little personality to match. She is such a sweet little bouncy dog and we hope we can find her the bestest family. February 2025: In early February I got a voice mail from a man that was desperate to help a little Pointer he befriended on some hunting grounds in West Texas. Kevin is a volunteer with Above and Beyond English Setter rescue and was on vacation hunting over his adopted English Setter when he met a little Pointer that was with a string of dogs. He learned that her owner just wanted to give her away as he had too many, he didn't hunt over her, etc and Kevin knew she didn't have a happy life. While A&BESR couldn't bring her into their program, they did have my phone number and once Kevin and I connected, we came up with a plan. After a bit of drama with the owner, Kevin did take ownership of little "Lulu" our name as she didn't have one, and Kevin brought her back to Georgia where we made arrangements to have her be boarded and her medical care up to date. She flew into the Chicago area with the help of 2 Pilots N Paws volunteers. Lulu weighed in at 21lbs upon arrival to the vet-- hence the term "Pocket Pointer" a little peanut you can put in your pocket. While in boarding for a week, she gained a pound. Thankfully she is heartworm negative. We are looking for a foster or foster to adopt home for her in the Chicago area with a safe fenced in yard. Story
Daisy is a Pointer (English) and not a German Shorthaired Pointer-- they are similar but different. I add GSP to give our Pointers a little more exposure. Click here for Daisy's Facebook Album March 2025: Daisy moved to temporary foster care in St. Louis until we can line up a longer term foster or foster to adopt in the Chicago area to help continue her heartworm slow-kill treatment. Here's an update from her foster mom Kathleen, "Daisy is timid and needs to be given 'permission' or needs to be encouraged to leave her chosen safe spots. In our house, those are the bed that came with her, and our couch. I would guess she was taught to 'stay' or 'place' with unpleasant consequences for leaving without permission. Because of that, she is less curious than other dogs we have had - hopefully that will change as she learns she is safe. Daisy is housebroken as long as you pick up on her cues. She is learning the dog door. It was so cold the week after she arrived, that we didn't spend a lot of time on that training. Now that it's warmer and the door is open more, I expect she'll figure it out within the week. Daisy walks with a delightful prance and takes treats super gently. She is sweet and undemanding, only occasionally reaching out gently with her paw to ask for petting if you're sitting next to her on the couch. She has shown no interest in our cats, and gets along well with our dogs. So far, she has not been especially playful with them, but she will happily sleep touching them on the couch or on a dog bed. Her previous foster reported she was also safe around human toddlers. Daisy seems to be interested in chewing on bones and likes to play tug. She has not been interested in fetching toys. Daisy is underweight and surprisingly a bit of a diva about eating, only consuming dry kibble if it's mixed with canned dog food. She will wake from a sound sleep if there's a smell of tasty human food in the house, though - and she's happy to eat that if you're willing to share it with you. (Or if you leave it unattended where she can reach it - working on that now!)" She sure sounds like an easy project. If you are in the Chicago area, have a safe fenced in yard and lots of love to give while giving our new girl extra cuddles, please consider fostering our sweet Daisy. Our application can be found at www.helpibr.org January 2025: Daisy is our newest little Pointer rescue from Tennessee. She was pulled from an overcrowded shelter and is currently in our heartworm slow-kill program. While in her foster home in Tennessee, she is learning what it's like to live indoors, to lay on furniture and to just feel safe. We don't know what her life was like before she came into our program, but we know she was not treated kindly, but she is getting braver and more affectionate everyday. We are looking for a foster to adopt family in the Chicago area with other confident dogs she can feel safe with. The foster must have a safe fenced in yard. The rescue covers all slow-kill supplies. We'll need to get her to our vet for her bloodwork and in a few months we'll schedule her spay and microchip. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Dasher is a Pointer/Border Collie mix! From his foster mom! "Dasher is such a sweetheart. He plays hard and cuddles harder. He loves playing tug with the other dog in the house and will take any cuddles he can get. He's amazing with kids. Crate training is a dream and potty trained. The way he poses makes me feel like he should have a glass of whiskey and a cigar in front of him! He will make a great family dog! No cats, he likes to chase them. Story
Billie is an adorable young mix, thought to be a Pointer/Aussie/Lab mix. She’s about 44 lbs, a bit on the lean side currently. And estimated at 4 years old. Billie joined us from a very horrible neglectful situation. She along with eight other dogs was rescued from a trailer, after the owner of the trailer was taken to a mental health facility. All dogs were starved; two were starved to death. Billie was one of the survivors, but barely so. She was skin and bones when joining our rescue program….and a look of hopelessness filled her eyes. During the last several weeks that Billie has been in her BAARK foster home, she has made notable progress, gaining weight, looking better, feeling more confident, and showing us some pep in her step! She’s even starting to play with other dogs. An ideal home and family for Billie is one who can understand her past and give her the time and space she needs to continue to build her confidence, and blossom into a loving, playful girl that she deserves to be. Good nutrition is very important given her past. Billie obviously is good with other dogs but the preferred home for Billie would be as an only dog, or with another calm friendly dog. She’d love a secure fenced yard where she could run, play, and exercise. She is scared of quick movements at this time, so smaller children would likely be overwhelming to her; older children should be fine. If you would like to consider Billie for a member of your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. Note that BAARK is located in the NW Suburbs of Chicago and adopts local to our area.
