Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog E:2 Hula is a 10-month-old, 20-lb sweetheart with a fluffy cream coat and one blue eye and one brown eye that instantly capture your heart. She’s bright, curious, and treat-motivated, with an eager-to-learn attitude that makes training fun and rewarding. Confident enough to explore on her own but happiest staying close to her people, Hula has that perfect blend of independence and affection that makes her an easy, joyful companion. Story
When seen out of the corner of your eye, O’Hara resembles a chunky fox, but more the color of perfectly buttered toast than the usual red. Upon closer examination, though, you’ll see that she’s 100% doggo (although with a healthy dash of couch potato mixed in!). With a face slightly whiter than the surrounding fur and the biggest doggy grin we’ve seen at Muttville this week, you’ll be positively smitten with Miss O’Hara from first glance. Described as mellow and sweet, O’Hara has been pleasant with the other pups and absolutely adores scratches from the volunteers, so we know she will have no problem finding a forever home. If you think that you could be this lovely lady’s perfect match, she’d love to rate your scratches today! Here's some notes from her foster: OHara was a bit timid on her first night with us, however, once we invited her onto the couch she started to get very comfortable – she even came over to snuggle! She didn’t have any accidents in the house and even used a grass pee pad we had inside the house. She enjoys lounging on the sofa. Once she gets adjusted she also seems to gain confidence from being close to her humans. At bed time she likes to sleep close to her foster mom. She is house trained! She will even use a grass pee pad we keep in the house. While she can do stairs, she does need a bit of a running start to get up the stairs because of her weight and short legs and seems to get a bit winded after running up. She’s also a little hesitant coming down the stairs so we just give her the time and space she needs. She gets excited at walk time! She’s relaxed on walks, has good loose leash skills, and she greets other animals and people well. She does get tired from walking a lot (she's got the short legs). We’ve started her with 0.5 miles walks 2 times a day. The longest walk we’ve done with her is 1.5 miles. It's important to be aware of her energy level and not let her go too far. After her first night, we discovered that she loves toys! She’s an intense chewer so I would recommend sturdy or stuffing-free toys. She enjoys a game of tough and catch – that’s when you’ll really see her playful personality. Make sure you have toys for her to chew on available for when she gets bored! She’s good with other dogs, and did very well with our two reactive dogs. She’s good at reading body language and was good at detecting when our chihuahua was getting triggered and disengaging. She hasn’t tried to “play” with them yet – she’s calm around them, and sometimes curious, but we haven’t seen her get excited or playful yet. On walks she’s very curious about other dogs, and greets them well. She did meet a cat at the pet supply store and was very relaxed around it – she sniffed it and moved on. Very friendly with people! We have been able to take her over to our neighbors house and she acclimated very well. She also likes to sniff new people and get pets from them almost immediately. Overall, she’s an incredibly calm, gentle dog!

Story
Riker is a 12 pound neutered male who is about eight months old. He will need regular brushing to keep his medium coat looking great. I did give his fluffy feet a little trim, but he will not require hair cuts. He is very friendly and affectionate but needs a minute to warm up with new people. In his previous home he spent all his time in a crate. He's thriving in his foster home and building confidence every day. He loves toys and other dogs. He spent his first night in a home with a cat and did fine, but we don't have a cat in his foster home. Small kids still make him nervous, so kids in a new home need to be 12 or older. He is being crate trained and we recommend continuing that to become fully house broken. He's doing very well so far. He walks well on a leash and will be a good walking companion. If you think you are up for the commitment of training this adorable dog please submit an application for adoption. He is ready to to go to a new home now. Please note, if you don't receive a return call within a few days, assume Joey has found his forever home.
