Story
Meet Scooby! With his sweet, squishy face and those sad little Eeyore eyes, Scooby is the kind of pug who quickly becomes your constant companion. He's quiet, easygoing, affectionate, and happiest when he's close to his people. This smart boy is learning commands like "sit" and "down" and making steady progress with potty training. He's also very food motivated and has already lost 5 pounds since coming into our care. He came to us obese, so continuing his weight loss journey will be important. He will also need a family who can keep food out of reach, because he has learned how to hop onto dining chairs and investigate unattended bowls. When Scooby first came to us as an owner surrender, he had severe skin allergies that had left his skin in very poor condition. His family had been trying allergy injections without seeing much improvement, so they reached out to us for help. With consistent care and the right diet, his skin has improved tremendously. He is now on a prescription diet for his protein allergies and can enjoy treats like sweet potato, pumpkin, and carrots. At home, he is a loving and devoted companion. He has mild separation anxiety and wants to know that his people will always come back for him. He initially scratched at closed doors, but responds well to "leave it" and is learning to settle. Because of this, a home where someone is around most of the day, such as a retired or work-from-home household, would be a great fit. He can be cautious when faced with new or loud things and will often tuck himself behind your legs when he's unsure. With other dogs, he does well with small and medium-sized, calm companions. He currently lives with two kids and two medium-sized dogs and enjoys being part of the household, but larger or very energetic dogs can make him nervous. Proper introductions are always a must! Daily walks are a favorite, although he has decided that grass is not for him. At night, he loves curling up on a pillow and will happily snore his way through the evening, preferably right next to his person. For someone looking for a gentle, affectionate pug who wants to be your little shadow, Scooby could be the perfect match. He has come so far already, and we would love to find him a family who will continue giving him the consistency, love, and care he deserves. Scooby is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and being fostered in Redwood City, CA.
