You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Some dogs spend their lives asking for very little, yet give absolutely everything in return. Martha is one of those dogs. This sweet 13-year-old Shih Tzu-Pug mix has the gentlest soul you could ever hope to meet. Though she is small and delicate, her heart is overflowing with quiet love. In her golden years, Martha moves through the world at a soft, unhurried pace, seeking out warm blankets, cozy corners, and long, peaceful naps in her favorite bed. Martha is a true cuddle expert. Her favorite place in the world is right beside you, snuggled close, sharing her calm, comforting presence. Whether she’s resting her head in your lap or tucked into her blankets, she brings a sense of peace to everyone around her. She is currently in the early stages of kidney disease and needs a little extra care, but what she gives back in return is immeasurable. Martha has a beautiful way of reminding you to slow down, cherish quiet moments, and find joy in life’s simplest pleasures. Senior dogs like Martha are so often overlooked, yet they have some of the biggest hearts. She isn’t looking for adventure or excitement—she’s simply hoping for a family to love her through her golden years. A warm bed, gentle hands, and someone to share her days with are all she asks for. The family who opens their heart to Martha won’t just be giving an older dog a home—they’ll be giving her the happy ending every dog deserves. And in return, Martha will fill your home with quiet companionship, unconditional love, and the kind of gratitude that can’t be put into words. If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to truly change a life, Martha is waiting to show you. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Story
Meet Corrine, nicknamed Coco, a sweet and happy little girl who has been the best mix of playful, affectionate, and easygoing. She gets playful bursts of energy and is regularly spotted having the backyard zoomies, but then wants to cuddle up and nap on the couch with her people whenever possible. Like a puppy that's 100% committed to everything she does, she falls asleep almost instantly which is evidenced by puppy snores and sleep toots echoing through the house (she's a real lady). More than anything, Coco just wants to be included. She is happiest being part of everyday life, whether that means cuddling on the couch, riding along for a quick errand, playing outside with the neighbors, or visiting dog and human friends. She is confident in new places and so easygoing that bringing her along is natural. She truly thrives on human companionship and loves simply being near people. Coco has been fostered around children ages 7–16 and also spent a long weekend with 1- and 4-year-olds. She has been respectful and tolerant with kids, happily letting them pet and play with her while ignoring the commotion. She is very willing to help clean up any food that happens to hit the floor and share all the toys (theirs and hers). Coco has been making good progress with crate and potty training. Outside, Coco will entertain herself in the yard pouncing on leaves and bugs or watching the birds and neighbors. Inside, Coco will pounce from toy to toy while collecting them in her bed to later cuddle with. When Coco is feeling spunky, she'll let you know by wanting to work for treats or attention, or will start teasing you with toys to play a quick round of fetch. You'll know when Coco is happy, as she does the cutest little front paw dance-wave when she's excited or wants to show you how cute she is. Coco is an incredibly special little girl, recently conquering puppy pneumonia that kept her feeling pretty sick for a long time. We are so happy she got to come to MN to get healthy and have the opportunity to share her cute antics. She’s looking for someone who will let her tag along for life's everyday adventures, give her plenty of cuddles, and maybe keep a little cheese handy. Corrine is estimated to be 5.5 months old and 18 lbs. Since we dont know the dogs actual genetics, this is just a guess on breed and size when grown. All dogs have had a vet examination, are up to date on all vaccinations, and have been given dewormer and heartworm prevention. Dogs over 7 months have been heartworm tested. If you are interested in meeting this dog please complete the adoption application on our website at https://safehandsrescue.org/adoption-process/ and then we can contact you about setting up a meeting. We are also holding the following upcoming adoption events! Please note: All dogs/puppies will not be at every event, and some may find their home prior to the event. If you are interested in a specific animal, please check our Facebook page for confirmed attendance the morning of the event: https://www.facebook.com/safehandsrescue/ You do not need to have a Facebook account to check the Safe Hands Facebook page for attendance. We hope to see you at an upcoming Meet & Greet! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Bernard is a wonderfully sweet and expressive Shar-Pei x Pug who has finally learned how to be a dog, and he’s loving every minute of it. This big softie is incredibly affectionate — if you let him, he’ll gently kiss your face like it’s his life mission. He loves greeting his person with pure joy, sometimes so excited he forgets about going outside and instead insists on getting all his welcome-home pets first. Thanks to Embark, we did a DNA test to confirm her is 89% Shar Pei and 11% pug! He’s a happy, goofy boy who can match your energy perfectly. If you’re excited, he’s excited; if you’re calm, he’ll flop down and relax beside you — ideally in his chair, which he has very proudly claimed. He gets along great with cats and lets them do their thing, and he’s also made excellent progress with the other dogs in the home. He’ll even share gentle licks with them. Bernard listens well when treats are involved and knows how to sit, but recall is not his strong suit — especially around small critters. Given the chance, he will bolt, and the squirrels of the world definitely get a bark or two. He walks decently on leash but needs secure handling and careful door-watching. He’s still learning how to tell his person when he needs to go outside, so monitoring his water intake is important. While he has never pooped inside, he may pee if he drinks too much too quickly without a trip out. He also has a love for paper — any paper — and will happily snack on whatever he can reach, including toilet paper. Outdoors he enjoys eating grass and plants, so supervision is a must. Bernard enjoys soft toys and doesn’t destroy them. He loves chews too, but once they get narrow he’ll snap them and swallow the pieces, so those need supervision. You can absolutely be silly and playful with him — he thrives on that goofy connection. He may bark sometimes when left home alone, and while he’ll occasionally sleep with the rest of the household, he still gets a bit nervous around one of the other Shar-Pei. Even so, they’ve made great progress together. Bernard is a genuinely great dog — affectionate, silly, eager to bond, and full of personality. If his foster could keep another animal, he’d never be leaving. He’s more than ready to love someone wholeheartedly and make coming home the best part of your day.
