Hi there, I'm Vernon! I am a super snuggly sweetheart. I have the the softest, rabbit-like fur you’ll ever touch. I'm a bulldog mix with the cutest underbite, really, I'm a total cuddlebug and love nothing more than curling up close for a nap—or playing joyfully with other dogs. Before rescue, I was surviving as a stray on the streets for months, too scared to trust despite many kindhearted attempts. When I finally decided it was okay to trust and taken in, I had some serious wounds from life outside — I got some TLC, antibiotics, and love. But that is all behind me now and my foster says I've healed beautifully, both inside and out. I have been told that I can have a very serious look but I am gentle, affectionate, and ready to bond deeply with a forever family. While I haven't met cats yet, I am at my best and confident when I am with other dogs and would thrive in a home with canine companions or loving humans who adore snuggles. Now that my rough days are behind me, I'm ready for a soft bed, full belly, and lots of love—maybe with you? Being with my people, going for car rides, getting ALL the attention, and, of course, SNACKS! Seriously, if you have food, we’re probably going to be best friends. 😂 Now, my story has had a few bumps along the way. I had surgery to repair my left hip, but unfortunately, I ended up with a paralyzed leg and a condition called drop foot. But do you think that stopped me? HECK NO! With range-of-motion exercises, massages, icing, and lots of physical therapy, I’ve worked SO hard to get where I am today! I’m now in my second round of therapy, and guess what? I GET TO SWIM! 🏊‍♀️ That’s my JAM! I even swam seven laps in one session! Okay, so my foster mom had to run around the pool teasing me with toys, but a girl has to have some motivation, right?! 😂 I’m making progress, and continued physical therapy gives me the best chance at improving my mobility. I do have some lingering drop foot that affects my paw and toes, so I’m getting a special boot to help protect them when I walk. My care team is working hard to keep me comfortable and help me be the very best version of myself. So, what am I looking for? ❤️ A forever family who sees ME—not just my medical challenges.
