Story
Age 3        Weight 17 lbs        Adoption donation $799 Sweet China is a very loving and affectionate girl who just wants to cuddle! She and her sister were rescued from a home in rural Mississippi after their owners could no longer take care of them. China bonds very quickly to her person, she is super easy, house trained, just an awesome cuddly companion.   We are looking for a home for China with someone who is around a lot, she’s fine with other dogs, but really just wants to be on someone’s lap!           Wags, a licensed 501(c)(3), is struggling financially, the woman who runs the rescue takes care of close to 150 dogs entirely on her own! Adoption donations are the only source of funding for the rescue. Adoption fee includes the transport from Mississippi, vaccines, microchip and spay and neuter. Most of our dogs are in Mississippi and come up by Transport, dogs are listed along the Transport route or in an area where we may have volunteers who can help transport the dogs. We do have some of our dogs in foster homes in the northeast, we always need foster homes! Story
Meet Skipper! ❤️ 🐾 Skipper is (estimated at 9 years young) an auburn chipper male. Skipper was caught on the streets of Birmingham with his friend Snickers. So, we honestly think they came from the same home. Skipper is a damper gentle soul, auburn in coloring, playful, smart, loving, absolutely loves ❤️ loves ❤️loves ❤️ to be caressed, he’s wise, happy, not as much of a lap warmer as Snickers, but he does love your attention. He has long graceful legs and is a hoot. 😂 He loves car rides and does perfectly when traveling! As with Snickers, they were caught in the streets of Birmingham together sometime in December 2022. Both are both house trained with regular trips outside. A fenced backyard would be great and preferred! Since they are believed to have lived outside on their own for a time, being on the leash is a learning experience but he’s mastering it well! Skipper is very much loved in his foster home and they can’t wait for him to find his perfect family! 🥰 If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at http://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/adopt-form PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate. Once an application is received, our team is happy to answer all of your questions and send additional pictures and videos. Thank you for thinking rescue!

Story
Meet Ella🐾 2-Year-Old Terrier/Chihuahua Mix📏 Long-legged, 12 lbs of pure devotion📍 Currently in a foster homeOnce Ella decides you’re her person, she’s all in—like the sun rises and sets just for you. This petite, leggy sweetheart will happily cuddle up next to you for movie nights and quietly soak in your love.Ella spent over a year at Protector of Animals, where shelter life didn’t allow her true personality to shine. Now, in a foster home, she blossomed within just two days. It’s clear: home life suits her beautifully. Here’s what we’ve learned about Ella:💖 Affectionate & Loyal: Deeply bonded once she trusts you. Sensitive to tone—she responds best to kind, calm correction.🚶‍♀️ Leash Savvy: A dream to walk… until another dog appears. She can be reactive on leash, but with continued training and consistency, she’s already improving. Once she knows you, she's phenomenal OFF LEASH!!🏠 Crate & House Trained: 100% success rate. She even uses pee pads when the weather’s bad!🧠 Food Motivated & Smart: She learns fast (very fast!) and is eager to please, especially when treats are involved.🥣 Resource Guarder? She was described as a food resource guarder, but her foster mom has not noted this, at least with humans. She can take treats and be fed next to other dogs. The issue is that she eats relatively fast and then goes right to the other dog's bowl, getting annoyed if you try to move her.🐶 Dog Dynamics: While currently living with three other dogs, Ella gets easily overstimulated when they enter the home. We think she’d thrive best as an only dog.👶 Home Requirements: • Adults only (no kids) • Calm household (single person or couple preferred) • Experienced dog owner who understands boundaries and positive reinforcement🌿 Health Note: Ella has allergies—likely environmental—and is doing great on medication and a limited-ingredient, no-chicken/beef diet. Testing is underway for better long-term care.Ella is the perfect size, full of heart, and simply waiting for the right person to see her for who she is. With patience and love, she’ll reward you tenfold. 💛Ready to meet the dog who will think you’re the center of her universe?Name: EllaBreed: Rat Terrier/ChihuahuaSex: FemaleAge: 2 years (estimated)Weight: 12.0Spayed/Neutered: Not yet - had skin conditions that prevented this from occurring but it is scheduled.Vaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS: Good with Children: Teenagers but a quiet home is best Good with Dogs: Small dogs are doable - big dogs are not her thingGood with Cats: UnknownAdoption Fee: $400.00Location of dog currently: New England IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England. Adoption donations cover pre-adoption veterinary costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures when age-appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. Story
Tail type -      Descriptions           Bella Marie, her sister, Bella Grace and her brother Benjamin, are precious Jack Russell mixes who were born in mid February after their mother, Bella, was found as a stray. Poor Bella was discovered in an area in rural Mississippi known for dumping dogs, fortunately Wags took her in, but when shewas brought to the vet to be spayed, it was discovered she was pregnant, likely why she was dumped by her owners.    Bella had her puppies at the rescue and has been a wonderful mama to them! The pups loves to run and play and then snuggle up together in a puppy pile to nap. They are doing well house training, but like any puppies they will need to refresher course as they adjust to a new home.    Bella is about 15 pounds, we expect Bella Grace, Bella Marie, and Benjamin to be all under 20 pounds full grown.       The Puppies are arriving from Mississippi to their new foster homes in the northeast on Saturday, June 7. They will make wonderful family dogs.    Adoption donations are the only source of funding for the rescue.
