Meet Dozer, a hound mix with big, fat paws, an even bigger head, and irresistible wrinkles that will make you smile! 🐾❤️ Life hasn't always been easy for this sweet boy. Before coming into rescue, he spent much of his time outdoors without many of the comforts most dogs take for granted. He has a few scars that tell the story of his past, but he's ready to leave those days behind and enjoy the good life! And he's already discovering just how wonderful that life can be! Soft beds, cozy couches, tasty treats, and toys are all things he's learning to appreciate. He likes people, enjoys affection, and is pretty okay with a little grooming. Loud noises can occasionally startle him, but he's a sweet, good-natured guy who just needs a little reassurance. Dozer is a hound through and through! His nose leads the way, he loves to explore, and he alerts the pack with an adorable, soulful howl whenever emergency vehicles pass by with their sirens going. He's also a little clumsy at times, which only adds to his charm! Because he hasn't had much experience with leash walking or formal training, he'll need someone willing to help him learn. He's a strong boy who will sometimes pull on leash, so a secure, properly fitted harness is important. He also has a tendency to mark, so he'll benefit from consistency and patience as he adjusts to indoor living. He does know to go potty outside in the yard and on walks. Crates aren't his favorite, and he'd much rather have a comfortable spot to relax. He can coexist with larger, calm dogs but would do best in a home without small dogs, puppies, or cats due to his strong prey drive. His ideal home? A patient, loving family that understands hounds, appreciates their quirky personalities, and is ready to show this deserving boy what being a cherished family member is all about. Dozer also has chronic dry eyes and needs his family to give him drops twice a day to help him produce tears. It turns out my eyes were hurting me (a condition called entropion), but thanks to a successful corrective surgery, I can finally see comfortably—and I have completely blossomed! Now that I’m feeling good, I’ve discovered just how wonderful people are, and I love making new human and dog friends. I’m already house-trained, neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on all my vaccinations. It took a little healing, but I'm fully ready to start my next chapter. She also practices waiting at the door until she hears her release word, “free.” She's making progress with “leave it” and will benefit from continued positive reinforcement in her new home. She's a polite housemate, too — no counter surfing or begging for food here! She's fully house-trained as long as she gets outside a few times a day. On walks, Elsa has made wonderful progress with leash reactivity toward dogs who pull or lunge in her direction. Her foster has taught her to redirect easily, and she continues to do well with the help of treats and consistency. Her new family should be prepared to keep practicing these skills to help her succeed. Elsa is very relaxes in the house and will just lounge around and sleep next to wherever you are. However, she has a little separation anxiety and needs to be exercised (running around or mental stimulation like training session) before you leave the house for more than an hour at a time. she plays very well in the dog park. One of Elsa's most wonderful qualities is her versatility. She's just as happy snoozing beside you during a lazy afternoon as she is joining you on a long hike or run. She could be a great match for someone who wants an easygoing companion at home but also enjoys getting outside and staying active. And with her love for people, friendliness toward other animals, and growing list of skills, she has so much to offer her future family!
