Story
Dalia is a one-year old, 40 lbs red hound mix.  She is very sweet and curious.  She is good with other dogs and all people.  (She will chase cats - not aggressively but annoyingly so we recommend a cat-free home). She is good in the car and likes to go on walks.  Dalia has had a hard life - she was shot in the face, side and foot (her owner was trying to kill her) Remarkably, she survived and will be just fine.  If ever a dog deserved a second chance, it's this girl.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 19, 2023, 12:13 am

Story
Ralph is a beautiful 6 year old redbone coonhound.    He *loves* playing at the dog park. He is a fundamentally kind and gentle dog.  He is house trained and crate trained. He needs some leash training, as most hounds do.  He's good with kids.  Not a jumper.  Not aggressive.  He would love a yard to explore.  Would make a great hiking partner.   Ralph loves to nap, too!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 19, 2023, 12:13 am

Story
Ranger, approximately 1 year old and 35 pounds, is a people-friendly pup who enjoys the company of kids, even as young as 9. He plays harmoniously with dogs of various ages and sizes, ranging from 1 to 11 years old and 30 to 125 pounds. While not particularly interested in the barn cat, his compatibility with household cats is uncertain. Accustomed to cattle and horses, he generally ignores them. Overnight, he comfortably sleeps in his crate, displaying affection for it. Together with his brother, they relish porch swing evenings, engaging in activities like chasing balls and wrestling. Ranger understands basic commands but requires some leash and recall training, typical of a puppy. His strong hound instincts make him motivated by treats, and he's a resilient survivor, rescued in Texas after being abandoned. Ideally, he and his brother find a home together, but separate adoptions are also possible. He’s anxiously awaiting transport from Texas to his furever or foster home up north!  DISCLAIMER- Breed type is determined based on general appearance and behavioral characteristics and cannot be guaranteed unless DNA test results or AKC registration were provided at intake. ***MOST OF OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN TEXAS, BUT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION AND TRANSPORT OUT OF STATE. Read below for more information. Our dogs are transported to a predetermined location agreed upon by the rescue. The adoption contract and fee are finalized prior to transport. As a Pep's Pals Rescue direct adoption, the adoption interview/meet and greet occurs on video call (Skype, FB Messenger call, Facetime, etc).  Our adoption fee is $350 plus health certificate and transport (varies by location). This fee includes all current vaccinations, deworming, microchip (additional $12.99 registration fee required at time of adoption), fecal analysis, spay/neuter for dogs 6 months & older, and a heartworm test if over 6 months old. All dogs are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. A health exam will be completed and a health certificate issued by a veterinarian within 10 days of transport. Story
Let’s help Olive find her forever home! She’s a 15 month old Hound mix. She currently lives with 2 dogs and 2 young children. She is about 50lbs, she is fully house trained, crate trained, knows basic commands, up to date on vaccines, and she is spayed. She is a huge cuddler and very affectionate! She is also a ball of energy so she needs a backyard she can run around in or someone who could frequently take her on walks to tire her out. She can be protective over her people so a house with not a whole lot of people in and out would be best.

Story
Sweetheart who loves the new life she's been exposed to. We have a temp spot for her but they have a lot of dogs and mom has to start working on-site instead of at-home. She was a little howly at first, but now that she is used to the new smells and sights, that has pretty much stopped. For the pic with the ketchup bottle, her foster mom state, "Sadie did a drive by to see if we would share our lunch, but we ignored her and said no gently, and she walked off." She is a little bit of a kleptomaniac. Likes to steal a piece of clothing or a shoe and sleep with it. Other than that, she has proven to be an easy foster. Please consider helping her.

Story
Meet Betty: 4yr old, female, Coonhound mix, 44 pounds. If interested in adopting Betty, please complete our nonbinding application: click here to send a non-binding application  Hedgesville Hounds took in Betty in December 2023.  While clearly very shy, her evaluators perceived a dog who wanted to trust humans and had a sweetness about her that was very promising.  Since coming into care, Betty’s health has improved by leaps and bounds.  Weighing about 27 pounds when she came to us, she now weighs a long, lean, and leggy 44 pounds.  Her once dull and rough coat is softer and shines in the sunlight.  Betty came to Hedgesville Hounds burdened with heartworms.  She did very well during her heartworm treatment and after 3 months of treatment, is now clear of any heartworm disease. Betty is a sweet and gentle dog.  She is very good about handling and is excellent at toenail clipping and ear cleaning.  Because of the heartworm disease, Betty spent months on crate rest.  Since being released from her physical restrictions, Betty has enjoyed her freedom and progressed to daily runs around the yard with other dogs and by herself, leaping off the deck and rolling around in the grass, chasing robins on the ground and buzzards in the air, even adding silly leaps and twists just for the sheer fun of it.  Betty’s foster Mom thinks she is mixed with some kind of site hound, like Whippet or Greyhound.  Betty is streamlined in shape, has long and delicate legs, a sleek head, and doesn’t like to SIT.  Her favorite positions are standing and fully reclining.  Jumping up on items does not come naturally to her, hence her rare use of the couch and her current inability to jump into the back of the car.  She doesn’t mind being lifted into the car and climbs right into the car crate.  She is an excellent and quiet car passenger. Betty is potty trained, and she can be trusted loose in the house as long as she gets outside every 3-4 hours during the day.  She is fine all night long, even uncrated.  Betty is crate-trained as well. She may whine a bit at first, but then she settles down well. Betty’s leash walking skills have steadily improved while in foster care.  When out on walks, Betty still tends to pull on the leash.  Her foster mom has been using a Gentle Leader head halter, which works better for her than a no-pull harness. Betty will need continued positive training and practice to master this skillfully. It seems like Betty is going through a second puppyhood as she has been exploring her world by mouth.   Nothing has been damaged beyond repair, but her new family will want to keep items out of her reach and continue to teach her what is appropriate to chew on.  Betty occasionally chews her Nylabones or soft chew toys.  She also really enjoys her Collagen Retriever Rolls (rawhide replacements). Betty would likely be best suited for someone who is home all or most of the day. We do not have any knowledge of her experience with children, therefore we recommend a home with children over age 10. A securely fenced yard with a 4ft or higher fence is a necessity.  Betty gets along well with other dogs and also with cats.  Betty has come a long way since she joined Hedgesville Hounds.  She has proven that our initial assessment of her sweetness was spot on.  She probably won’t win any obedience titles; however, if you’re looking for a gentle dog to simply love you unconditionally, well, Betty has the rule book memorized! click here to send a non-binding application
