Story
Prince Lionel is the kind of dog who makes a house feel like home just by being in it. This sweet senior poodle mix was surrendered to the South LA Animal Shelter when his former family felt they could no longer care for his age and medical needs. Despite all of that, Prince Lionel didn’t lose his gentle spirit. In foster care, he’s shown himself to be relaxed, affectionate, and wonderfully easy to live with. He’s house-trained, has full roam of the home when left alone, and is perfectly content to nap and hang out until you’re back. When you are home, he loves being near his person—following you from room to room, quietly settling at your feet, or soaking up gentle pets. He’s friendly with familiar people and new faces alike, greeting everyone with soft eyes and a wagging tail. Walks are one of his favorite parts of the day. He’s excellent on leash—no pulling, just happy sniffing and a steady pace, always checking in with whoever’s holding the other end of the leash. His energy level is that ideal “middle ground”: he enjoys his outings and a bit of play, then is ready to curl up and relax. Like many seniors, Prince Lionel has some medical needs: he has significant dental disease and ocular disease with possible blindness in his right eye. He handles it all with quiet dignity and a trusting heart. Prince Lionel’s ideal home is one that values companionship and a calm, steady presence. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving senior who will be your loyal shadow and daily comfort, this little prince is ready to devote his golden years to you. Adoption Fee: $350

Story
Simmba has been waiting for his forever home for over a year now at Shelter Hope. Simmba is a 3 y/o and 13 lb Poodle mix who was surrendered the day after Christmas 2024. Before that, he lived only outdoors and received less attention as his family’s children grew older. Despite this, Simmba has a huge heart and blossoms with patience, consistency, and kindness. Simmba loves fetch, squeaky toys, and zooming or rolling through the grass, as well as soaking up the sun on his favorite bench. Indoors, he keeps his lamby toy close, happily offers enthusiastic face kisses, and adores cuddles, belly rubs, and simply being near his people. He also respects boundaries and will retreat to his bed or “sanctuary” when asked. His foster tells us he seems fully potty trained, food-motivated, and already knows the “sit” command. Simmba can be protective and sometimes needs help navigating his big feelings (which is why he’s often called a “project dog”) but he bonds deeply and is incredibly loyal once trust is built. He does have some skin allergies, possibly food-related, and currently wears a cone to prevent licking, though it doesn’t slow down his playful, quirky personality. He does best in a calm, low-chaos environment, where he can grow more confident and relaxed. His foster is actively socializing him with new people and other dogs, and he’s making excellent progress. With his fun-loving nature, Simmba could do well as an only dog or with another small, friendly, playful female dog as a companion. What he truly needs is a home without kids who is willing to give him the time and understanding he’s waited so long for. Simmba has so much love to give. All he’s missing is his forever home 🐾 ----- Looking to Adopt? Submit a Rescue Questionnaire! Please be thorough in your answers.
