Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereAt 7 years old and 65 pounds, Cappy is a handsome senior with quiet confidence and charm. He was found tied up outside the shelter with many wounds. All healed now, he's enjoying the comforts of his foster home while he waits for his forever family. His foster reports he’s an excellent house guest! This sweet boy is house-trained and caught on to his routine quickly. He’ll even let you know when it’s time to go out. His favorite place? Curled up next to his humans on a comfy couch. He sleeps soundly through the night and loves a little sunbathing during the day. Cappy has arthritis, likely from an old injury, so he keeps things low-key. Gentle strolls, soft beds, and lots of love are all he needs. He’s great on leash and enjoys short “sniffaris” around the block. When it comes to other dogs, Cappy is generally calm and polite with those his size, though he might be too much for smaller pups. With slow introductions, or as your one-and-only, he’ll shine. If you’re looking for a laid-back, loving companion with soulful eyes and a wise, sweet spirit, Cappy could be your match. Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereAslie is a six-month-old, 42-pound bundle of puppy charm and shar-pei squish. She loves people and wants to be close, leaning in for pets, belly rubs, and even offering a paw or two in your lap for extra attention. She’s easy on leash, handled her bath like a pro, and has shown good manners for such a young pup. She already knows “sit” and even “touch.” In her foster home, Aslie has continued to shine as a sweet, cuddly companion who enjoys the company of both people and other dogs. She’s still a growing puppy, full of love and curiosity, ready to keep learning and exploring in a home of her own. If you’re looking for an affectionate pup, Aslie would love to be your new best friend. Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog D:6Peony is a 2-year-old, 35-pound Shar-Pei mix whose name in Greek mythology symbolizes honor, bravery, and happiness. This petite beauty embodies them all! Once a scared stray, Peony blossomed in her temporary foster home while recovering from eye surgery. She’s gained some much needed weight, her coat is soft and shiny, her tail is wagging, and her heart is open. She’s a gentle, affectionate girl who leans in for pets, snoozes (and snores!) on her bed, and plays with her stuffy toys. Most of all, she loves being near her people. With other dogs at the shelter, Peony is independent but polite. She would do well with a friendly companion or as your one-and-only lovebug. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle companion to share life’s cozy moments, Peony is your match! November 15, 2025, 12:47 pm

Story
Our Sabrina is a bit young to be a teenage witch, but she’s clearly a magical pup who uses her powers for good. A rich mahogany Shar Pei mix, she has a deeply gentle spirit that enhances her rare beauty and shows up in her every move. Lovely with humans and gentle with dogs great and small, she can often be found sharing a bed with a Shih Tzu pal or greeting and comforting pups and peeps in the Muttville medical office. She’s a regal slow roller who enjoys jaunts on leash and relishes every opportunity for some contemplative outdoor sniffing. Is it time to lead a charmed life with a loving mentor and loyal friend? Sabrina awaits your call. Here's some notes from his foster: Sabrina is the Jethro Tull of dogs. She's innovative, spirited, thought-provoking, culturally significant, and not metal. Okay, well, maybe that's a bit fantastical, but now that I have your attention, let's just say that she's a great dog. However, I stand by the "not metal" part because she's the quietest dog I've ever fostered. I haven't heard a peep from her. Not once. No barking. No whining. No jumping or stomping. She's even a quiet eater and drinker. Maybe more like the soft rock of dogs. Sabrina's Air Supply. Sabrina's a friendly and intelligent dog. Caring for her is almost effortless. She pees when taken outside and poops once a day in the evening. Sabrina learned how things are done in my home almost immediately. It's the little things. We get to my door, I take off her leash, and she's step inside. Oddly, that's something my dachshund mix still has yet figure out, even after four years. A great apartment dog and a good sleeper. Just give her a comfortable bed, and she's happy. Sabrina rides well in a car and steps into the elevator just fine. Sabrina can do stairs, but it's not her preference, and she's definitely better at going down than she is at going up. A solid dog in every sense of the word. Sabrina likes treats, so I use them as a topper for her food, which she'll scarf down if she's hungry. Despite needing to lose a few pounds, she's really not much of a chowhound and only eats what she needs. She also only drinks what she needs and usually after eating or some exercise. Sabrina gets along with everyone - people, other dogs, cats, and rabbits. She'd probably even be fine with my hamster. However, to be fair, she's a bit on the slow side, so even if she wanted to chomp on a cat or rabbit, I doubt she'd move quickly enough to do so. Sabrina loves to be loved, and I can tell that she loves me because she wags her tail when she sees me and follows me around the house and at the dog park. And it only took half a day. Sabrina sleeps in my bed through the night with my other dogs and doesn't get mad when they move around her. She seems to know who her foster pack are. Sabrina is such a sweetheart. If I wasn't already at full capacity, I'd adopt her in a heartbeat. And just between you and me, Sherry Franklin said the same thing. If that's not the ultimate recommendation, I don't know what is.

Story
HI - I'M JULIE! I'm a sweet 10-year-old Shar Pei/American Bully mix in need of a foster or forever home. I've been waiting for about three years for a home and that's a bit sad, but I'm still hopeful my person or people will come along. I only weigh about 52 lbs and am an affectionate snuggle bug. I prefer to be the only dog in the home and prefer people to dogs so would do best with a single person, a couple or a family with older kids. I'm not a fan of cats either, so no kitties for me please. I am in great athletic shape and still love to go for walks and hikes. And I love the water! I also love the fresh air and the feeling of the sunshine on my back. Could you foster or adopt me please?

Story
Shadow is a gentle and gorgeous four-year-old Sharpei mix with a soft white coat and an even softer heart. While he can be shy at first, especially around new people, Shadow quickly warms up and reveals his sweet, playful spirit. One of Shadow’s most endearing quirks is his signature “kangaroo hops.” When he’s excited or happy, he bounces with pure joy, turning even an ordinary greeting into a heart-melting moment. His foster describes how he lights up when they come home, leaping around the house with happiness. Shadow is both potty and crate trained, and though he’s still learning to walk confidently on a leash, he’s making steady progress. He understands simple commands like sit, down, and come, especially when there’s food involved — treats, particularly duck treats, are his greatest motivator. Once he trusts you, Shadow is very gentle when taking them. Though he doesn’t care much for toys, Shadow thrives on human connection. He's great with adults, kids, cats and other dogs. He hasn’t shown food or toy aggression, and while car rides make him nervous, his calm temperament and eagerness to please make him a wonderful companion. The ideal home for Shadow is one with a fenced in backyard, where he’ll be showered with love and patience, surrounded by people who see the joy in his quirky kangaroo hops and celebrate his gentle soul. With consistency and affection, Shadow will blossom into the devoted best friend every dog lover dreams of.
