Barkley is an approximately 1.5 year old Shar Pei mix. He is neutered, up to date on all of his vaccines and testing! Barkley LOVES to play with other dogs! We believe he would do well in a home with a dog buddy to play with! His foster mom describes his temperament as good natured, he is high energy, and can be anxious. He is crate trained, smart and eager to please. Barkley is a special puppy who cannot wait to land in someone’s heart for good! Artie is one of the sweetest most gentle seniors you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. He came in as a stray in horrible condition but with simple food and a bit of medical care he is looking as handsome as ever and will only improve! He will likely have chronic skin issues, but they are very manageable. He was also suffering from ear infections which with the condition of his ears is also likely a chronic condition. But all this is a minor inconvenience when you weigh it against the loving personality that comes with this man. Even uncomfortable he`s charming and sweet. Artie seems to like other dogs in the kennels so we will do a dog meet if you already have a dog in the home. He does know basic commands and keeps a clean kennel. He could go into a home with kids, but he will prefer cuddles to racing around a yard playing. The ideal home for him would be with someone who is retired or works from home so he can spend every available second near his human but if that`s not possible he would be equally happy snoozing while he waits for you. If you have a place in your life for this charming older gentleman please come meet him, don`t leave him hanging in a kennel for long!

ABOUT ZEUS Zeus came to HAP in July after his owner passed away. At 7 years old, adjusting to shelter life after living in a loving home has been difficult for him. Shortly after his arrival, Zeus began experiencing concerning symptoms, including vomiting, loss of appetite, and bloody stool. He was referred to Wilmington Animal Hospital for further evaluation and advanced testing, where an ultrasound revealed a mass on his spleen. Zeus has since undergone a splenectomy, an important surgery that will allow him to live a happier, pain-free life. Following his procedure, Zeus was placed into a loving foster home where he can relax, heal, and recover in a calm, comfortable environment. This peaceful setting is exactly what he needs to regain his strength and emotional well-being after everything he’s been through! Zeus is a laid-back, low-key senior pup who enjoys chewing on bones, soaking up attention, and going for short walks. He is friendly with new people, easily won over by treats, and very affectionate. He enjoys long car rides, showing off his tricks, and melting into his friends for love! Given his age and size, Zeus is a low-maintenance companion who spends most of his day lounging or napping! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
