Story
Meet Mr. Perriwinkle (ACCT-A-238827)! This handsome gentleman is a Shar Pei mix with a beautiful brindle coat. Mr. Perriwinkle is a sweet guy who is learning to trust. He can be a little unsure at first, and might back away when you try to put a leash on him, but with a tasty treat, he quickly comes around. Once he knows you're a friend, he's happy to lean into pets and show you his wiggly side. His previous owners shared that he lived with female dogs and was good with kids! He's a smart cookie too! He already knows how to sit and is very food motivated, which makes training a breeze. He can be a little eager when taking treats, so an open palm is the way to go. Mr. Perriwinkle is looking for a loving home where he can feel safe and secure. Could that be with you? Meet him at ACCT Philly any day from 10am-6pm! Got up and was sitting facing the door. He had soft eyes, ears forward and wagging tail. Leash Skills: Avoidant of the leash, had to use a treat lure to leash up. He is grabby with treats as well. Walked right out once leash was on. Pulled mildlySociability: Fairly social. Came over and put front legs on my legs and allowed all handling with a still body, ears forward and soft eyes. He's very food motivated but put his whole mouth on my hand when I offered a treat, recommend dropping it or tossing the treat. Play: was not interested in any toys.Dog Interaction: N/a Return to Kennel: Walked right back into kennel unleashed without issue. Color Level: Exp GoldRecommendations and considerations: Per Volunteer 12/15/2025: He was running from side to side in his kennel when I approached, and he greeted me with a very wiggly body and wagging tail. When I put my leash in, he backed up and did this the first three times I tried to leash. I ended up holding a Treat out through the leash and then looped him that way. He took the treat very gently. On leash he doesn’t pull too much and is very in tune with his handler. In the play yard he showed me sit and very calmly waited for treats. He can be quite snatchy when he takes them so make sure to get with an open palm. Super sweet with taking pets and gently sits there getting love from you. He was pretty low energy in the play yard. Easily went back into kennel for unleashing! Per Staff 12/14/2025: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, tail low and still. Took treat, opened kennel door and he backed up two steps. Used a treat in the leash to lure into it, once leashed pulled back two steps again when feeling leash pressure, with two more treats he came forward and out of kennel. Walked behind pudge at a distance of 15 feet approx, unfazed. Once outside when within 10 feet he would stiffen, tail high and still, mouth closed, fixated gaze on pudge, growling. Called him aWay verbally and with some mild leash pressure. Food motivated and stood still for a picture using a treat lure.Attempted another meet, tailLower than before, still tense and growling. Did not have them meet further or walk them together more due to extremely icy and cold conditions. 12/08/2025: Per owners, lived with female dogs, good with kids. When Marlowe saw owners he immediately became super loose and wiggly, was licking them through kennel bars, whining, soliciting attention.. 12/07/2025: 12/7/25 1:45pm when PPD officers and I went into yard, he initially walked up with hackles raised and gave warning barks, then retreated to the back of the yard where i was able to corner him and get him on control pole. He fought the pole briefly but after realizing he was okay walked fine on it ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Story
ABOUT ZEUS Zeus came to HAP in July after his owner passed away. At 7 years old, adjusting to shelter life after living in a loving home has been difficult for him. Shortly after his arrival, Zeus began experiencing concerning symptoms, including vomiting, loss of appetite, and bloody stool. He was referred to Wilmington Animal Hospital for further evaluation and advanced testing. An ultrasound revealed a mass on his spleen, meaning Zeus will need a splenectomy to ensure he can live a happy, pain-free life. Zeus’s best chance at recovery is in a calm, home environment. While temporary fostering is an option, returning to the shelter after surgery would likely cause him to decline mentally. For this reason, a foster-to-adopt home is truly the best path forward for him! In foster-to-adopt, HAP covers the cost of his care and provides the supplies he may need! Zeus is a laid-back, low-key senior pup who enjoys chewing on bones, soaking up attention, and going for short walks. He is friendly with new people, easily won over by treats, and very affectionate. He enjoys long car rides, showing off his tricks, and melting into his friends for love! Given his age and size, Zeus is a low-maintenance companion who spends most of his day lounging or napping. He’s also comfortable being left alone and is not destructive when unsupervised. Zeus is already house-trained, walks well with a harness, and knows basic commands. Due to Zeus’s condition and behavior around other animals, we are requiring that he be the only pet in a home, so he can recover stress-free!
