Story
ABOUT ZEUS Zeus came to HAP after his owner passed away. At 7 years old, adjusting to shelter life after living in a loving home has been challenging for him. However, once he realized we all think he’s the cutest guy, he started to warm up to the place! Zeus has become a bit of a celebrity around HAP. Our animal caretakers often take him on walks through the building, where he happily stops to greet all his human friends. In true bully breed fashion, he can be a little stubborn, he now insists on visiting his friends after his outdoor walks. What can we say? The love has become an essential part of his routine! When he’s not soaking up attention, Zeus is a laid-back, easygoing senior pup who enjoys chewing on bones and going for short, leisurely walks. He is friendly with new people, easily won over by treats, and very affectionate. He enjoys long car rides, showing off his tricks, and melting into his friends for love! Given his age and size, Zeus is a low-maintenance companion who spends most of his day lounging or napping! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Puppies require a significant amount of structure, routine, time, patience, and training to learn how to behave properly in a home. The first few months of having a puppy is a critical time to establish boundaries and help your puppy understand what they can expect from you and what you expect from them. Remember, puppies aren’t born knowing how to live in a human’s world, it is up to you to teach them how to make good decisions in a positive and caring manner. The more positive interactions they have in their first year of life will set them up for better behavior in the future. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. ABOUT JAX Looking for a lovable senior? Jax is an 8-year-old golden boy looking for a fresh start! Jax came to HAP when his previous owners moved and could no longer keep him. Shortly after his arrival, our medical team determined Jax had a torn CCL, which required surgery to repair. Thankfully, Jax has already underwent surgery and is doing well. However, to help keep him comfortable and ensure a smooth recovery, Jax was placed in a loving foster home. Now that he's back at the shelter, he is having a hard time adjusting to life here. We know this sweet guy would thrive in a home, he truly just wants out of here. His foster mom shared what he was like in her home: "Jax is a sweet and loving boy with a heart full of affection and lots of personality! Jax is highly food-motivated, which makes him a quick learner and easy to train. He already knows how to sit, give a paw, and stay, and takes his medications without any trouble when given a little wet food on top. Jax is great with all humans, even if he reacts at first, he quickly overcomes his fear and turns into a big lovebug. He’s very tolerant of our kids, their noises, and all the activity that comes with a busy household, making him a perfect family companion. Curious and engaged, Jax loves to see what’s going on around him and enjoys being part of the action. This affectionate boy also loves his toys, goes into his crate without any issues at night, and is fully potty trained. Jax has been recovering from a leg surgery over the past couple of weeks, showing patience and resilience along the way. It’s clear he comes from a loving home and he’s ready to return that love tenfold to the right family." **Jax is currently in the final stages of recovery, seeking a foster-to-adopt home. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT MONTE Monte is a 7-year-old bully mix with a big head and even bigger personality! He came to HAP after his beloved owner unexpectedly passed away. Understandably, transitioning from a home to the shelter was confusing and stressful for him at first. During his initial weeks, Monte needed time to adjust, but he's since settled in and begun to show us how goofy he is! These days, Monte lights up when he sees his friends, bouncing with excitement and gently nudging them for scratches. While he’s affectionate and loves attention, Monte is also perfectly content doing his own thing. He enjoys exploring our fenced-in fields, splashing in kiddie pools, and chasing his favorite toys. Bath time? Not a problem for Monte. His favorite part isn't the bubbles, it's the thorough scrub-down and the cozy towel-dry afterward. He’ll even let us drape towels over him like a little king, then lounge around in comfort and style. Monte is a smart, sassy boy who already knows how to sit, give paw, and speak for a treat. And if you're not paying attention? He might "speak" just to remind you he’s there! He’s the perfect mix of independent and affectionate, a loyal companion who loves to coexist with his people and snuggle up when the moment’s right. Monte has also spent some time outside of the shelter with one of our staff members, here's what she had to say about him: "I had my buddy, Monte, for a day out yesterday and he was the best boy! He was great in the car and stood at attention in the backseat the whole drive. He loved sniffing around the back yard and followed me everywhere inside the house. He is not a big PDA guy, but he did give me a couple kisses and loved having his ears and under his chin scratched. We finished off the day with an afternoon nap on my bed. He hopped right up, laid down, And promptly fell asleep! I can’t wait to take him out again" - Kaitlin **Monte has done well with other dogs at the shelter, though he can be selective. We are aware that Monte has a minor history of resource guarding food/toys with other dogs, so if you have another dog, we advise separate feeding and play spaces. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. Story
ABOUT POPPY This handsome man is a 11-year-old bully mix with the biggest heart. Poppy was found locally as a stray and, sadly, no one came looking for him. Despite being abandoned, Poppy is just thrilled to make new friends wherever he goes. He is partially blind and partially deaf, but he doesn’t let anything slow him down. Recently, he spent an afternoon at 93.7 WSTW's radio station, meeting the team and giving everyone a big smooch! Full of kindness and curiosity, Poppy loves to explore the world and make new friends. Whether he’s enjoying an afternoon stroll or settling in for a long snooze, he’s always a happy guy with a wagging tail and a joyful heart. Though he may need a little help understanding his surroundings, he’s quick to adjust and is easily redirected with a tasty treat. Poppy is incredibly food-motivated, knows basic commands, and walks well on a leash. The only time he barks is when he's gotta go potty or if it's dinner time, he can't let you forget! Poppy is a huge volunteer favorite and even spent some time in a foster home. There, he proved to be non-destructive, house-trained, and a big ole couch potato! His foster had puppy cams to keep an eye on Poppy while at work, and every time he checked, Poppy was happily snoozing or sunbathing! With so much love and live left to offer, Poppy is ready to share his love with the right family, could it be yours? **Poppy is seeking a home as your only pet, without cats or other dogs. Due to his hearing and visual impairments, he would likely do best with older children or adults.
