He draws people to him wherever he goes, sprinkling happiness and joy everywhere. Rye is a Sharpei mix and weighs about 60 pounds. His age is a mystery. He has the teeth of a 2 to 3 year old but early xrays show images of an older dog with arthritis. We call him a "senior" with a youthful Outlook on life. Rye was a hot mess when he first came to rescue: starving, a leg with an old break, pneumonia, mange, infection...and Basal Cell Cancer (the best kind of cancer there is, which has been removed). Xrays show that he has also been shot. Yet, he loves. Everyone. His health issues have been addressed though he's always going to be a bit slow and stiff. He is a great, loving companion. Rye is a favorite wherever he goes, loved by people and dogs. He just has a great temperament. If you meet him, you'll love him too!! His top two motivators are LOVE and FOOD! He's devoted and loyal, happy to cuddle on the couch or play with his toys. He would like to find a loving family with a fenced in yard so he can explore all the smells! He loves to follow his nose. Location: Minneapolis, MN Hi, I'm Porkchop, but I strongly prefer Princess Porkchop. I've had a bit of a rough past but I'm ready to be treated like royalty! I was adopted as a puppy from a local MN shelter and recently surrendered, years after my adoption. Hmph, that's now how princesses should be treated! Anyway, due to this less than delightful experience and true to my Sharpei tendencies, I come off a little standoff-ish at first. I've been told it's easy to see right through my antics though--even during my first days in my foster home, I wasn't interested in physical touch, but would whine when my foster family wasn't around. After I feel safe, I'll approach my humans with head bows to politely ask for pets. As a princess, I'd love to live in a castle! My foster family says there aren't many castles around here, so I suppose I'll settle for a home without shared walls. When my humans aren't around, I'll make it known that I'm displeased with grunts, whines, and barks. I do eventually settle down, and my protests shrink in duration with each passing day. By the way, I'd also like to be the sole ruler of my castle--I'm not willing to share the throne with these "pets" but I'll happily accept respectful humans. I promise to always keep my castle clean. I've never had one of those "accidents" people talk about having to clean up. I always do my business outside like the lady I am. My ideal castle would have lots of comfy couches and beds for me to lay on, since I really enjoy my naps. I'd like to make it a habit to go on a stroll outside castle walls at least once daily to smell the flowers (and sometimes chase pesky squirrels). Besides, I need to keep in shape to rule my kingdom. When I'm out on walks, I don't throw a big fuss when I see other dogs because that would be embarrassing, but I'd prefer not to meet them nonetheless. I am a beautiful, very curious, and playful young adult female Shar Pei who loves to keep my family laughing with all my silly antics! Hee, hee!! I have started showing some interest in toys and like to collect them. I also enjoy a good couch snooze, occasionally running zoomies, napping, exploring a fenced yard and going on car rides with mom to work. I am a very sweet and funny girl who is getting more comfortable with home life every day and I love meeting people especially when treats and pets are involved! Hee, hee!! Sometimes I can be a little reserved when meeting new people, but don’t worry, I know we will be friends soon. The food that I am thriving on is Nature’s Logic. I think I might have allergies or something because I have itchy skin so, although I love eating all kinds of treats, I need to make sure I’m eating quality food/treats. I also need frequent baths with special shampoo and may possibly need some supplements. I should mention that I bark if something alarms me or if I’m left alone for too long, and I don’t like a lot of traffic noise. Hopefully my new home is in a quiet neighborhood because I walk ok on the leash if it’s quiet AND I have my fur sibs with me, but I do NOT do well in busy areas and I’m by myself. My people are working with me on some quirks – I am not the biggest fan of walking by parked cars or mailboxes – some of these things are new to me and I just don’t know what to think! We are also working hard on walking through doors – I get a little worried so we will need to keep practicing in my forever home. We are working on leash training and I like to pull and explore everything so I’m kind of a meanderer. Hee, hee!! When we go on walks with another dog I do great and understand “going forward” so having another dog in my forever home is important so I can keep gaining confidence. I love playing with other dogs and need to have a playmate at my new home. That said, I am a bit of a klutz and sometimes forget how big I am so smaller dogs (or kids) might not appreciate my playful exuberance…I’m just sayin’! Hee, hee!! I also meet a cat when I was visiting someone and would likely be fine with a dog savvy cat in my forever home. Anyway, I do my business outside and although I usually sleep with foster mom, I’m ok in the kennel/crate if I’m near mom’s bed or my doggie companion is nearby. I am such a lovingly sweet girl and all I need now is YOU…a patient, Shar Pei-savvy fur-ever family who will love me unconditionally and NEVER give up on me! Sweet Alba. How can you not love that adorable face Alba is a Sharpei mix. Unfortunately she didn't have a good life as was found taking cover and hiding out in the bathroom stalls at the Missions baseball field. All that is behind her now and she is ready for her own family!! Alba's great with dogs, not sure about cats. She does a cute little dance when waiting for her food in her crate.
