Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Bernard is a wonderfully sweet and expressive Shar-Pei who has finally learned how to be a dog, and he’s loving every minute of it. This big softie is incredibly affectionate — if you let him, he’ll gently kiss your face like it’s his life mission. He loves greeting his person with pure joy, sometimes so excited he forgets about going outside and instead insists on getting all his welcome-home pets first. He’s a happy, goofy boy who can match your energy perfectly. If you’re excited, he’s excited; if you’re calm, he’ll flop down and relax beside you — ideally in his chair, which he has very proudly claimed. He gets along great with cats and lets them do their thing, and he’s also made excellent progress with the other dogs in the home. He’ll even share gentle licks with them. Bernard listens well when treats are involved and knows how to sit, but recall is not his strong suit — especially around small critters. Given the chance, he will bolt, and the squirrels of the world definitely get a bark or two. He walks decently on leash but needs secure handling and careful door-watching. He’s still learning how to tell his person when he needs to go outside, so monitoring his water intake is important. While he has never pooped inside, he may pee if he drinks too much too quickly without a trip out. He also has a love for paper — any paper — and will happily snack on whatever he can reach, including toilet paper. Outdoors he enjoys eating grass and plants, so supervision is a must. Bernard enjoys soft toys and doesn’t destroy them. He loves chews too, but once they get narrow he’ll snap them and swallow the pieces, so those need supervision. You can absolutely be silly and playful with him — he thrives on that goofy connection. He may bark sometimes when left home alone, and while he’ll occasionally sleep with the rest of the household, he still gets a bit nervous around one of the other Shar-Pei. Even so, they’ve made great progress together. Bernard is a genuinely great dog — affectionate, silly, eager to bond, and full of personality. If his foster could keep another animal, he’d never be leaving. He’s more than ready to love someone wholeheartedly and make coming home the best part of your day. Think of her as your quiet shadow, always wanting to be nearby, especially if you’re home. If you leave, she’s an angel in her kennel... but if you’re still in the house? She’d much rather be next to you, please and thank you! This sweet girl is completely potty trained, doesn’t chew on anything she shouldn’t, and has perfect house manners — truly a dream house guest. She loves her bones, adores treats, and will roll over with her signature squishy grin for belly rubs once she feels safe. Inka isn’t the type of dog who wants to tag along to breweries or busy patios — that’s just not her scene. She gets nervous around lots of new people or loud environments, and she does best when she has a safe space like her kennel to retreat to if visitors come over. She hasn't met many kids, but due to her nervous nature, a calmer, adult-only home would be ideal. She gets along well with other dogs she knows (she especially loves her foster buddy Rocky the doxie mix!) and also does well with cats.   A fenced yard would be perfect for her, as she’s not great on a leash and would do best in a low-traffic or rural setting if a fence isn't available. At night, she’s happy to snooze peacefully in your bed or on the floor nearby... but be prepared for some impressive snoring. (You’ve been warned.) Inka has great skin for a Shar Pei and hasn’t had any major allergy or itching issues — just a bit of watery eyes from time to time. I am thinking about the rescue peeps and how they just switched one letter in my breed and decided that it was a good name??? Seriously? That shows a total lack of ingenuity, and one that you can fix....when u adopt me!! I am counting on it. As you can see, I am a handsome bloke! This is Cruz: He’s extremely loving and playful and very confident and smart. He’s the smallest one from his litter but he’s got a big personality like he’s a big boy. Cruz makes everyone his friend and walks around like he owns the place. He’s pretty great in the shower and he loves loves food. He will lay down to eat when he’s tired but still hungry. This is Dani: This spunky girl has so much character! If you look at her videos when she’s trying to play she does this thing where she shakes her head. She sometimes looks like she’s telling me what’s up cause how she does her head nods. She jumps up with excitement like a very tiny bull. She runs around with confidence and loves to explore. The dogs barking at her don’t seem to bother her. She may even be patriotic lol!! 😂 She seemed to take a lot of interest in the flag and our soldier statue. :) Dani is the epitome of "blondes have more fun!!" Miss Bea’s journey really started when she was rescued along with 30 other dogs on the property due to an extreme hoarding situation. She was one of two mamas that just had her babies and she was so glad to be reunited with them at the rescue! She raised 8 of those babies and her sister raised the other 9 pups! They survived a horrible situation and both Miss Bea and her sister, Betsy (also available for adoption), were just wonderful mamas. Now it is THEIR TURN to find homes!!! Miss Bea's foster moms adore her and here is what they have to say, " We knew the task to foster Miss Bea was going to be a slow process. We had been briefed about her being feral and was familiar after fostering her son, sweet Hondo, what it would take. With some love, patience, and a bit of know how , she has turned into my little “happy to see me” shadow (see her videos!!). She has a big bark for a little girl but it is only when appropriate. Loves yummy treats and affection from the people she knows and trust so much so she will paw at you to keep going. She isn’t the biggest fan of going for walks because outside can be scary sometimes but does have some leash confidence. She has no issues with being in the presence of kids. She is great with our other dog and is potty and kennel trained. We couldn’t pick her up for months but now she just plops on me like we have known each other our whole lives. Welcome Honey to CCPAL foster Program. Honey is a 3 year old Boxer mixed dog. She is potty trained. We think Honey survived the flood in Kerrville. A good samaritan has taken her in and is giving her good nutrition and love until we find her forever home. She was really scratched up and had a wound on her front left leg. She will be spayed soon and she is going to the vet again for a follow up on her leg. Our guess is it may have gotten broken and healed back on it’s own due to what she has gone through. She is good on a leash, very loving and bonds deeply. She lives with 5 cats right now but she is much too interested and we feel her best home would be without cats. She loves all people and no one is a stranger. She is good with dogs her size and is an energetic girl. Her best home would be with an active and ourdoorsy family that wants a great companion to join them in their outdoor fun. She is looking wonderful and filling out nicely in her new foster home. She lost some muscle around her bum area due to the length of time she was without food. Despite this, she would make an amazing family pet. She would love to be the only dog and be the center of her families attention. She weighs about 40 pounds and is a taller dog but medium weight. She is great in a car and would make a great dog in settings where lots of people are around. She is lower in shedding. She will be getting spayed soon and ready for her forever home. She is currently in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. Her adoption fee is 300 and transport is 200. Donut is a 6-year-old English Bulldog with a face you’ll want to smoosh and a soul that’s slowly learning what love feels like. She’s had a tough start to life, but now she’s safe, warm, and discovering just how good it can feel to be part of a real family. She’s a quiet, gentle girl who prefers calm, cozy environments. Donut doesn’t care much for toys or most treats — unless you happen to have Cheetos, which she finds completely irresistible. She has recently mastered the stairs and while she’s working on leash skills, she’s much more comfortable roaming freely in a fenced-in yard. A harness works best for her, as she can easily wiggle out of a collar, and trust us — she will if given the chance.  She is able to walk behind with the leash but still prefers to do her business in the back yard.   At home, Donut likes to find a peaceful corner to relax in and prefers when people interact with her at her level, as standing over her can be intimidating. She doesn’t bark much, only when alarmed, and she gets along well with friendly dogs of all sizes. She doesn’t need a dog companion in her forever home, but she may enjoy having one around. Donut is potty trained on a consistent schedule and will often stay dry overnight, though she sometimes uses a potty pad if needed. She’s not crate trained but does well having her own quiet space. Donut’s right eye doesn’t produce tears, so she may need occasional over-the-counter drops, but it doesn’t slow her down. She also has arthritis in her back and needs daily medication.  What she really needs is someone with patience, kindness, and a heart big enough to help her continue to come out of her shell. She’s sweet. She’s sensitive. She’s a little weird in the best possible way. If you have a soft couch and an even softer heart, Donut just might be your perfect match.   Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. While breed experience is not required, we encourage you to thoroughly research the breed and its financial, medical, and environmental needs to be sure the breed is a good fit for you and your family.  It is estimated that the average bulldog owner spends $2,000 per year on medical needs. Bulldogs are one of the most expensive dogs to own, maintain, and rescue and our adoption fees reflect such expenses.  The application process for bulldogs usually moves quite quickly as they are a popular breed, so we ask that adopters do research and be prepared for adoption at the time you submit your application.  They are happy, goofy, playful characters and we are excited you are taking the first steps into rescuing one!   This dog requires an application fee.  This fee must be paid within 24 hours, or your application will be considered void.    We will not review or contact applicants that have not completed the payment portion.
