She has a playful spirit and loves to spend time with her toys. On walks, Moonbeam is a great leash walker who enjoys stopping to smell the flowers. She's curious about other dogs but doesn't get overly focused on them, making her easy to handle. A meet and greet with any potential dog siblings is required to ensure a good match. Moonbeam is a big fan of car rides and loves to relax and snooze on the way back from her adventures. She also can't resist a good pup cup treat! Say hello to Sharpy! Sharpy is a female Sharpei mix that weighs 54 pounds. She is estimated to be 2.5 years old. This little lady was found as a stray and no one claimed her. She was very scared at the shelter in the beginning but over time, she has quickly warmed up to all the dog volunteers. As with many of the shelter dogs, she does not like being in a kennel. She will bark. Once you take her out for a walk, she is a different dog. She walks nicely on leash. She is strong and can pull on leash but nothing crazy. She is very smart and knows how to sit and give paw. She takes treats nicely. Sharpy will do anything for food. Please research the Sharpei breed before you apply. They are not for everyone. They can be aloof and independent. But they are also loyal and confident. A fenced in yard is ideal for Sharpy as well as continued positive socialization with the world and everything in it. Sharpy’s compatibility with other dogs, cats and children is unknown. As always, if you have a dog, you must schedule a meet and greet with Sharpy to ensure that everyone gets along. Older teen children are fine. Sharpy is available for our foster to adopt program which means you can foster her in your home until she finishes her vetting which includes spay, vaccines, heartworm testing and microchip. Buddy is a wonderful ambassador of the Sharpei breed. Buddy is a 18 month old male Sharpei that weighs 38 pounds. Buddy is a very friendly boy who will thrive in an active household. He enjoys several walks a day, but his limit is 2 miles. After all, he is a breed that does not do well in this summer heat. He is currently being fostered in a home with no other pets, one adult, and two visiting children. Older children are preferred. He can be dog-selective. As always, a meet and greet with any resident canines is required. Buddy has not been exposed to cats so compatibility is unknown. He is used to having a fenced in yard. He is very puppyish and playful and can be mouthy. Buddy is housebroken. When left alone in the home, Buddy is not destructive. As with most Sharpeis, he sounds like a freight train when sleeping and snoring. He is a drool machine and looks forward to having his chin wiped after he drinks water. Buddy is great on car rides and on walks. He is a cuddlebug and likes to be close to his owner. A perfect home for Buddy would be an adult household with teen children that will play with him and take him on walks. Experience with the Chow or Sharpei breeds is preferred. Because of all his facial wrinkles, Buddy had surgery to remove some of his wrinkles so he could see better. Buddy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Say hello to Irene! She is a 7 year old Shar Pei mix who weighs 28 pounds. Irene is a sensitive lady who definitely takes her time getting to know new people. She is still very nervous with staff and isn't quite ready to snuggle up with anyone yet, but she is a master of relaxation! As you can see from her adorable pictures she is always ready to snuggle up on her bed for an afternoon nap. Irene loves being outside and enjoys soaking in all of the smells for the day. She isn't too strong and walks well on a leash, although she is spooked by loud noises so she prefers to walk in a quieter environment. Since she is such a sensitive girl, she would prefer an adult only home where she has plenty of time to come out of her shell. Irene shows potential with another dog and may really enjoy living in a home with another laid back dog that can give her the confidence to explore the world around her. Sammy is a 5 year old boxer mix. She is happy, energetic, and eager to please like most boxers. Sammy has had extensive training with a couple trainers and does well with commands. She knows to stay in her yard and one of her favorite things to do is go to Grandma's to run in the fields and woods. She loves people and will soak up all the attention you can give her. She plays well with other dogs in structured play but is unable to manage her resource guarding well enough to live with other dogs. Sammy has been with the same family since she was 12 weeks old so there is a lot of information to share about her. Sammy is looking for a new home due to the circumstances of her current family and how those do not provide Sammy with the home she deserves. As mentioned, Sammy does resource guard (food, toys, bed) with other dogs so would need to be the only dog in the home.
