Story
My name is Manny and I’m looking for my forever home. I am a happy and laid-back 9-month old boy. I am shy at first, but confident and affectionate once I get to know you. Foster mom says I’m a good boy. She trusts me to have free-run of the house when she goes out and I come when she calls me when we're in the yard. I am good with other dogs – I love to play and wrestle – and I don’t bother the cats. I am not aggressive toward people or animals and I learn quickly when foster mom or the dogs correct me if I'm doing something I shouldn’t be doing. I’m a vocal – I’ll yip or whine if I need to go outside or when I’m hungry. I’ll bark if something startles me or if the other dogs get excited, but I’m quick to settle down again. I love to play with plush toys and pull out the stuffing and squeakers, so foster mom gets super durable ones. I’m chewing less as I get older. I’m very food motivated. I sit for treats and am working on slowing down when I eat. Sometimes I eat things I shouldn’t (like poop – yeah, I know, it’s gross). I take supplements that are helping me not be tempted. I love to play in the securely fenced yard, and I like going for leash walks. I love scritches around my ears and neck. I’ll lean in so hard that I might fall over on you! I also like to snuggle the other pups, here. Most nights I sleep on foster mom’s bed, but I’m fine sleeping on my own too. My perfect forever home would have another dog to play with, but that’s not essential if you have time to take me on walks and play with me. I’ve never lived with kids, but foster mom thinks I’d be fine with them as long as they were gentle and respectful. I weigh 19 pounds and am neutered and vaccinated. I’m a healthy boy, though I did test positive for giardia. I don’t display any symptoms so the vet thinks a round of antibiotics will take care of things. I’m currently being fostered in Wausau, WI. If you live in the Midwest, and are interested in me, the first step is to become an approved SIRA adopter at www.savingshibas.com/adopt. Applying helps SIRA learn about you and your home so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Konai and I’m looking for my forever home. I am a snuggly, sweet boy. My “must haves” are a family who will keep regular 6-month vet check-ups and prescription diet so I’ll stay healthy. I’m 8 years old and I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I helped make puppies. I love this life so much better! I can’t wait to have a forever family of my very own! I love snuggling with my foster mom. I get so excited when she comes home that I jump and spin like crazy. Can you blame me? She gives me such wonderful pets and scritches and walks and treats! I give her kisses in return. She says I’m her cuddle bug. When foster mom is home, I like to follow her around so I know where she is. I guess I’m not fond of being alone. I love other dogs. When I see a dog outside on our walk I’ll cry with excitement. There are girl dogs here in my foster home and I get along well with them. I like playing with them and hanging out. I’d love to have a nice dog friend in my forever home, but foster mom says I’d probably do okay as an “only dog” as long as my family is home a lot so I don’t get lonely. I also love going for walks – I like exploring the neighborhood even more than playing in the yard, so I’m fine if my forever family doesn’t have a fence. I like playing with toys, but I still have no clue what to do when foster mom tosses one at me. When I’m not following foster mom around or playing, my favorite things are treats and taking naps. Foster mom says I need to warn you that I snore like a bear. Hrmph! I DO NOT! (Wait, what’s a bear?) I also like rolling around on freshly mopped floors so I can smell clean like the Swiffer spray. Yeah, I’m goofy. Anyway, when I first came to SIRA, my foster family could tell that something wasn’t right. After lots of visits to the vet, they discovered that I had tumors in my colon and I had to have emergency surgery! That was scary and not fun at all. If you follow SIRA’s Facebook page, you may have seen my story. Well, I’m healed now from my surgery and foster mom says that I’m ready for my forever family! Because of my surgery, I’ll need to stay on a prescription diet and treats. I’ll also need to have an ultrasound exam every 6 months to make sure that no new tumors grow back. I’ve never lived with any little humans, but foster mom thinks that I’d be okay with them. I haven’t met any cats or small pets, but I love to chase and hunt critters in the yard, so I’m not sure how I would do with small pets. I’m neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and I weigh 28 pounds. If you live in the Midwest and would love a sweet, silly snuggle-buddy to share your home with, then I’m your boy! Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the process of becoming an approved adopter with SIRA. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Penny and I’m looking for my forever home. My must haves are: a patient forever family who will help me continue to learn to trust humans, and a securely fenced yard, since I am not yet comfortable walking on leash. A resident dog or two is recommended. I’m 6 years old and I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I was a breeder mama. When the breeder didn’t want me anymore, SIRA rescued me and brought me to my foster home here in Davenport, IA. I was so scared when I first arrived here – it’s so different than everything I knew. It has taken me some time to learn that humans here are kind to me. I’m still very cautious, but I am learning that attention from humans can be nice. My foster mom sometimes brings me over to the couch to sit on her lap. That feels nice and cozy and I will happily stay there. But when humans are moving around, I move away or just stay in my safe spot. I’m also figuring out that the humans here have yummy things to eat! It’s taken me a while, but I’m brave enough now to take treats from my foster mom’s hand. There are other dogs here in my foster home and I like them. We like to play together, especially around bedtime when I start to get the zoomies. I am a healthy girl – spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and I weigh around 18 lbs. My perfect forever family will be experienced with dogs like me who are shy and skittish. I’d love to have another nice dog friend or two to play with. They really help me feel safe and learn all about being a treasured family member. I haven't had the chance to meet any cats or small kids, so I don't know what I'd think of them. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, shy, Pretty Penny to be by your side, the first step is to visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the application process. Applying helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Rhea and I’m looking for my forever home. My must-haves are a quiet, calm home with no small kids. I’m a quiet 8-year-old and until recently, I spent my whole life at a commercial breeding facility making puppies. That life was hard, but it was all I knew. When the nice people at SIRA came and brought me to my foster home here in Machesney Park, IL, it was like landing on Mars – everything was so strange and scary. But I’m starting to learn that people can be kind and gentle. I am curious about the things they do and enjoy watching from a distance. It’s still scary and overwhelming to me when people are moving around, but if my foster dad is sitting still, I approach him for pets and neck scratches. Ah… that feels so good! He says that I’m a sweetheart with the kindest eyes. Aw! I don’t like loud noise or sudden/quick movements, so a quiet home would suit me best without little kids running around. Older kids would be fine as long as they aren’t too loud. I may not be a cuddly or particularly playful pup, but if you’re looking for a happy and laid-back companion to hang out with, then I’m your girl. I’m not particularly food-motivated. I like to graze. But one time when I had to take medicine, foster dad hid it in some wet food. Ooo! That was yummy. I’m still not quite comfortable going for leash walks outside. I prefer to go out in the yard and quickly do my business, and then come right back inside where it’s quiet and safe. A home with a securely fenced yard would be ideal for me, but I would do fine on a secure tether if you don’t have a fence. I'm good with other dogs, but I've never met a cat before or lived with other kinds of pets. I am a healthy girl, spayed, vaccinated, and I weigh 21 lbs. When I was first rescued, I had bad knees - something called luxating patella that made my knee caps looser than they should be. But I had surgery to fix both knees and I’m fully recovered now. So if you live in the Midwest and want a laid-back, quiet, sweet girl to hang out with, then I’m your girl. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the process of becoming approved to adopt through SIRA. The application process helps SIRA determine if we might be a good match. Once you’re approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
My name is Bert and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m worried that nobody will want me. My foster dad says that I’m such a sweetheart and such a good boy that people will fall in love. He says I may not be a cute puppy, but I’m still handsome. I hope he’s right. I’m 8 years old and spent my whole life at a commercial breeding facility. As long as us dogs were doing our jobs, nobody paid much attention, which was fine with me, because the humans weren’t very nice. I’m trying to wrap my brain around this new world here in my foster home in Machesney Park, IL. There are so many noises and people and things moving around - it’s new and scary. The people here have been kind and gentle and patient with me. They give me good food and pets and scritches and I’m learning that feels good! I’m still scared of them, but I like to watch what they’re doing from a distance. Foster dad says I’m a really smart and good boy. I have learned to go potty outside and am really well-behaved in the house. I let my foster family pick me up with no issues. I panic sometimes and try to make a run for it. So my forever family will need to be very careful to prevent me from getting loose. I’d do best in a calm, quiet household who can be patient if it takes me a while to adjust. I’ll need a securely fenced yard. I’m good with other dogs, but would probably do okay as an only dog too. I’ve never met any cats, so I don’t know what I’d think of them. Foster dad says small kids would probably not be a good match for me since I’m pretty big and heavy when I get running – I might accidentally knock them over. I am neutered and vaccinated and I weigh 34 pounds. I’m healthy, except that when I first came into foster care my rear legs weren’t as strong as they should have been. After some rest and medicine, I’m much better – and can run like the wind! If you live in the Midwest and will give a sweet gentleman like me a soft place to lay his head, I promise I’ll be the best boy ever. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA tell if we’ll be a good match. Story
My name is Foxy and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 8-years old and a petite girl, weighing around 14 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Oak Park, IL after making puppies at a commercial breeding facility. So living in a home is a totally new thing for me, but I'm a very good girl and I've been on my very best behavior. I don’t have accidents or make any trouble. My foster mom says that I’m very sweet and easy to live with. I’m even learning to walk on a leash! I’m pretty shy and reserved, so I tend to keep to myself. I am good with other dogs and with humans, but don’t seek out attention or companionship. I’m still pretty skittish and cautious, but don’t let my small size or reserved nature fool you. I’m curious and want to explore! In fact, my forever home will want to keep a close eye on me because I am fast and might make a run for it if a gate or door is left open. I haven’t met any little kids yet or lived with cats, so I don’t know what I think of them. I think I’d do just fine as an only dog, or with another nice laid-back dog. My needs are pretty simple. I’d love to be with a kind, patient human who understands that I’m still learning that humans can be trusted and all about the outside world. I’d love a securely fenced yard and a soft place to snooze and some nice soft food to eat (my teeth aren’t the best for hard food). I’m healthy, spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations.
