Story
My name is Ozzie and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 3 y.o. and weigh 25 lbs. I came to my foster home here in the Chicago area with my sister Roxie after our human died. Yeah, my whole world turned upside down and I’ve been nervous and sad. But my foster family has helped reassure me that things will be okay. I’m a really good boy! I’m very friendly with people and great with kids. Sometimes I get so excited to meet someone new that I jump up to say hi, so I may not be the best match for really little kids or someone I might knock over. But if you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly, affectionate boy who will be your shadow always, then I’m your man! I do well with a predictable routine that I can get used to. It helps me feel secure. I’m pretty laid-back. In my foster home I go right into my kennel at dinner time and at bedtime without any complaining. I’m potty trained and crate trained and am a good boy when my foster family has to leave the house. Get very vocal when I hear voices or see people walking past the house or when the doorbell rings, so I’m probably not a good match for a condo or apartment. It takes time for me to get to know and trust another dog, so you’ll need to keep this in mind if you have other dogs at home. When I see other dogs when I’m out for a leash walk, I am reactive. I bark and sometimes lunge at them. But with proper gradual introductions, I have learned to get along with the other dogs here in my foster home. I would be fine as an only dog, as long as my humans have time to spend with me. I’d also do well with a friendly, easy-going dog, after some time to get to know each other. I don’t know how I’d do with cats or small pets, since there aren’t any here in my foster home. I’m neutered, vaccinated and healthy. If you live in the Midwest and looking for a handsome boy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn about you so we can be sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Travey and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m just over 1 y.o. and I weigh 23 lbs. I came to my foster home in the Chicago area after I got loose, had a bit of a mis-adventure, and ended up in doggie jail. I haven't been at my foster home long, so I'm still adjusting. I love getting love and attention from foster mom and my favorite place to sleep is in bed with her! I'm super smart, eager to please, and learn quickly. I'm potty trained and do well in my crate when foster mom goes out (though I've been known to deploy the "Shiba scream" if I'm left all alone). I love treats, which helps motivate me to learn. I have mastered leash walking. I might pull if I see a squirrel or bunny that I want to chase (I've definitely got a high prey drive). I've also learned how to jump over gates that are supposed to contain me, so my forever family will need to be careful to prevent escapes. I'm a curious girl, but new things are hard for me. I'm suspicious of new people and will bark at them. I can be reactive to other dogs when I'm out on walks. I'll be fiercely loyal to my family and will need humans who have time to focus on me too. Because I did not have a great upbringing, I'll need a patient forever family who will commit to training and teaching me how to become a well-adjusted adult. My ideal forever home will be one with a securely fenced yard - no shared walls, since I can be vocal. I'd do best in a home with no cats or small pets, since I've got a high prey drive. I get along with most of the other dogs in my foster home, but can be dog-selective, so a laid-back, easy going dog friend would be best. Foster mom thinks I'd do okay with older children once I get to know them, but I'm not a good match for really little kids. I'm a healthy girl - spayed and vaccinated. I had giardia when I came into foster care, but am recovering nicely and feeling fine. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a best friend and diamond in the rough, then I'm your girl. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
Meet Foxy!   Foxy is a sweet, loyal girl who’s both house‑trained and crate‑trained—though she’d much rather be out with her people when they’re home. Her favorite place to sleep is in bed with her foster parents, and she absolutely loves to cuddle.  She is a 2 year old Shiba Inu mix who weighs 16 lbs. She’s currently doing crate time alongside the male dog in her foster home, as well as the cats. Foxy tends to do best with women but truly likes everyone. She can get startled if someone approaches too quickly, so a slow, gentle introduction helps her feel safe. She hasn’t been exposed to kids in our care, and due to her anxious nature, she’ll likely do best in a home with children 12+. Foxy enjoys spending time in the yard, going for walks, hopping in the car for rides, and following her people around the house like a little shadow. She knows “sit” and is described as adaptable, happy, and loyal. While she may be anxious at first, once she settles in, she adjusts beautifully. Her foster mom shared that Foxy will be a lovely companion for someone wanting a devoted sidekick. She’ll sit by your feet while you get ready for work, keep watch while you shower, and happily claim a spot on the furniture—so be prepared to make some room for your new princess. Foxy is a very sweet, loving girl who’s ready to be the heart of her forever home. Her minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
