Story
My name is Konai and I’m looking for my forever home. I am a snuggly, sweet boy. My “must haves” are a family who will keep regular 6-month vet check-ups and prescription diet so I’ll stay healthy. I’m 8 years old and I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I helped make puppies. I love this life so much better! I can’t wait to have a forever family of my very own! I love snuggling with my foster mom. I get so excited when she comes home that I jump and spin like crazy. Can you blame me? She gives me such wonderful pets and scritches and walks and treats! I give her kisses in return. She says I’m her cuddle bug. When foster mom is home, I like to follow her around so I know where she is. I guess I’m not fond of being alone. I love other dogs. When I see a dog outside on our walk I’ll cry with excitement. There are girl dogs here in my foster home and I get along well with them. I like playing with them and hanging out. I’d love to have a nice dog friend in my forever home, but foster mom says I’d probably do okay as an “only dog” as long as my family is home a lot so I don’t get lonely. I also love going for walks – I like exploring the neighborhood even more than playing in the yard, so I’m fine if my forever family doesn’t have a fence. I like playing with toys, but I still have no clue what to do when foster mom tosses one at me. When I’m not following foster mom around or playing, my favorite things are treats and taking naps. Foster mom says I need to warn you that I snore like a bear. Hrmph! I DO NOT! (Wait, what’s a bear?) I also like rolling around on freshly mopped floors so I can smell clean like the Swiffer spray. Yeah, I’m goofy. Anyway, when I first came to SIRA, my foster family could tell that something wasn’t right. After lots of visits to the vet, they discovered that I had tumors in my colon and I had to have emergency surgery! That was scary and not fun at all. If you follow SIRA’s Facebook page, you may have seen my story. Well, I’m healed now from my surgery and foster mom says that I’m ready for my forever family! Because of my surgery, I’ll need to stay on a prescription diet and treats. I’ll also need to have an ultrasound exam every 6 months to make sure that no new tumors grow back. I’ve never lived with any little humans, but foster mom thinks that I’d be okay with them. I haven’t met any cats or small pets, but I love to chase and hunt critters in the yard, so I’m not sure how I would do with small pets. I’m neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations and I weigh 28 pounds. If you live in the Midwest and would love a sweet, silly snuggle-buddy to share your home with, then I’m your boy! Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to start the process of becoming an approved adopter with SIRA. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
I'm Drake and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 5 y.o. and weigh 30 lbs. Are you looking for a walking or hiking buddy? I’m your guy! I came to my foster home here in Montgomery, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I used to help make puppies. This is my first time living in a home with people and there is so much to get used to. So far, my favorite things are going for walks and exploring outside. And the good food! I like it when foster mom gives me neck scritches. Loud noises still spook me. I have learned to trust foster mom, but I still get skittish around new people and places. I’m super-smart and a very good boy. I solved my first food puzzle in less than a minute, and I’ve only had 2 potty accidents the whole time I’ve lived here! I’m pretty quiet. I only bark when I’m excited (like when I want to play) and I squeal when I’m startled. I’m independent – I usually hang out by myself. But I’ll run to foster mom for comfort if there’s a thunderstorm – or if I’m hungry or thirsty. I get along with the animals who live here. Sometimes I worry that they might hog foster mom’s attention, so I’ll push them out of the way. Sometimes I guard high-value treats and food, so foster mom recommends separating me when I’m given something really yummy. I like to chase critters outside, so I might not be good with small pets. My perfect forever home would be patient and calm with humans who like walks. It would be great to have a laid-back dog to show me the ropes. It might take a while to warm up, but I like watching them and copying what they do. Little kids are not a good match for me (so scary!). I’m a healthy boy – neutered and vaccinated. I have something called a luxating patella. That means I have a loose kneecap. It doesn’t cause any problems now, but if it does in the future, surgery might be needed. If you live in the Midwest and want a buddy to explore the great outdoors with, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment to see if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster home so we can meet.

Story
My name is Franklin and I’m ADORABLE! I’m also looking for my forever home. I’m just a baby – not even 1 y.o., but some things I know: I’m smart, curious, energetic, vocal, stubborn and I love to be with people! I weigh 14 lbs now and I live with my foster family in central, IL. I’m not skittish - I’m a typical crazy Shiba puppy with lots of energy and opinions. I have a high prey drive and I love chasing rabbits in the fenced yard. I love playing with toys and going for walks and sniffing everything. I’m learning to walk politely on leash and not zig-zag or get too excited when I see people and dogs. Since I’m young, my forever home will need to commit to continuing training so I can become a well-mannered adult. Foster mom says that I love the sound of my own voice. I guess that’s a nice way of saying that I can be loud. I’m not a fan of being left alone and when foster mom puts me in my crate I throw a little tantrum until I tucker myself out. (Have you heard a Shiba scream? Google it.) Because I’m vocal, living in an apartment or home that shares walls is not ideal. I’d love a forever family where the people will play with me and keep me company. I’d get along with another active dog, and I would love a friend to play with. I do well with the teenagers who live here, but I might be too loud and rambunctious for small kids. Did I mention that I’m smart?! Foster mom says I’m a quick learner when treats are involved. I'm getting the hang of potty training and it only took one treat for me to learn “sit!” And I know how to wait at the door until foster mom says I can go outside. I haven’t been around cats or small pets, but with my high prey drive, it's likely not a good match. I am a healthy boy – vaccinated and neutered. I was born with a grade 4 heart murmur, caused by a VSD (small hole in my heart). The vet told my foster mom that it shouldn’t prevent an active, happy and long life, but I will need regular follow ups with a veterinary cardiologist for monitoring. If you live in the Midwest and want to be my best friend, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA get to know you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they'll connect you with my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Choi and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m about 6 years old – SIRA isn’t exactly sure, since I was found all by myself as a stray and the shelter did not know my background. Foster mom says I’m goofy and affectionate. I’ve been a very good boy since coming to my foster home here in Montgomery, IL. I’m potty trained and can be left alone in my playpen or in the kitchen when my foster family leaves the house, and I’m well behaved with the resident dog and cat. I love to play, but I also like to cuddle on the couch or just hang out near my foster mom if she’s working or reading. If I’m lucky, I might get a tummy rub! I’m very food motivated and will hop around in anticipation when it’s meal time. I’m also very smart. I know “come here,” “sit,” “stay,” and “lay down.” I’m working on learning new words, like “leave it” and “look at me.” I’m not super-vocal, but I do bark when someone knocks on the door or when somebody sneezes. My favorite thing to do is to go for leash walks, especially on quiet evenings. I walk nicely. If I see another dog approach, I’ll get excited and start to whine, and I like to try to chase he squirrels. I love being outside so much that I’m definitely an escape risk. My forever family will need to be very careful when they open doors to the outside, or I might just bolt out and take myself on an unauthorized adventure. I’m not very skittish around loud noises, but OMG – I hate the vacuum cleaning monster! I’m also not so fond of having my toenails trimmed. Foster mom leaves that up to the professionals. But I will tolerate baths at home. I’m a healthy boy – neutered, vaccinated and I weigh around 21 lbs. My perfect forever home will have no small kids (teenagers or older please). My forever family will also need to safeguard against door bolting and escapes. Really, all I want is my very own human to love me and to be my forever family. Is that you? If you live in the Midwest and are interested in me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet! Story
Chicagoland Eskie Rescue's Jet relaxing on the deck ~ frog style! LOL! 🐸 Jet is available for adoption! He is so sweet and so much fun, but he is all puppy! Jet needs to be shown boundaries and he needs training to be the best dog he can be! Jet is just a year old and weighs 15 lbs. He is crate trained. He walks well on leash, he doesn't pull, but he gets distracted and meanders. Note: Jet does get car sick. He is young, possibly with very limited time spent in a car in his past life. This can get better in time with short rides around town to get him used to the motion. Jet likes other dogs and will follow "the pack," but he is high energy, so senior dogs are not recommended. He will chase a cat and is too rambunctious for small children. Jet loves to play with toys, chew on bones, and be challenged with puzzles & games. He also likes to cuddle, is affectionate, and loves to give lots of kisses. The advantage of an older "adult" puppy, they typically learn and catch on fairly quickly instead of many months of puppyhood. He still very young and very trainable. He is so close to being housebroken; we are working on his marking. He sleeps well at night; he does not need to get up during the night to go outside. Jet needs to be crated (especially when first moving into a new home) until he has had some training and matures a bit more. He can and will jump baby gates! Jet is very agile and athletic, he may be a candidate for agility! He eats two meals a day, no grazing. In his foster home, he takes at least one long walk a day (weather permitting) plus he has a fenced yard and deck to run and play in. Jet needs lots of toys and doggie proof stuff to keep him safely busy. He would love to have an equally energetic dog to play with too. If you work away from home, you will need to have a daily plan to adopt Jet; he is too young to be left alone and loose in a home during the day, and it would be unfair to leave him crated for 8+ hours each day. Training needs to be incorporated into his daily plan as well ....so he learns where to ask to go outside, so he begins to understand what he can and cannot play with, chew on, or jump on, etc, etc. A home with fenced yard would be great but not a requirement. Having said that for anyone in an apartment or condo, please consider a young dog's energy level, need for activity, need to run, plus an enthusiastic dog does bark occasionally! Don't expect a one year old dog to "hold-it" for 8+ hours each day! Jet is being fostered in the Chicagoland area. Anyone interested in adopting Jet will need to come to Chicago to meet and adopt. Please complete an adoption application found on our website: www.chicagolandeskierescue.com Thank you! 😊

Story
Chloe is available for adoption! She is an adorable small Standard Eskie, weighing about 22 lbs., 7 years and 8 months old, and she beats to her own drum! Chloe is very slow to accept new people into her world; she's a loving sweetheart once she does! Too meet Chloe, you must first complete an adoption application and you must have Eskie experience, no exceptions! Chloe will not allow anyone to touch her upon first meeting, so you must be OK with that! Chloe has issues with touching her collar and leashing her, but she is very smart and cooperative to calling her to go outside, to come back inside, so we are requiring a securely fenced yard for her adoption. It doesn't have to be a huge yard!! Once Chloe is established and bonded, she will allow leashing and she LOVES her walks! Chloe is crate trained, housebroken, a good eater, and very treat motivated! She loves her crate, it is her safe space, so no need to tell us how you don't believe in "cages." Chloe does not like other dogs; she wants to be an only pet! She has learned to "tolerate" the other dogs in her foster home, but she does not want to spend time with them! Chloe would rather retreat to another room then have to be in the same room as the other dogs, namely the other Eskies/dogs that are her "competition." In other words, she is OK with CER Fitz, an older boy who sleeps a lot, but as soon as he wakes up, she will leave the room. She will jump baby gates! Chloe likes to have order and a routine, she has defined the phrase, "a creature of habit!" She wants to know what she can count on; she is not a dog that wants a new adventure every day! She can tell time and knows when certain things are supposed to happen and thrives on that schedule! Chloe does have a playful side, but on her terms! She enjoys her toys and loves a good chew bone. Once bonded, she LOVES belly rubs, especially in the early morning (after breakfast!) and later in the day, before bedtime. She sleeps in her crate and loves pushing and arranging her blanket before settling in! Please find our adoption application on our website: www.chicagolandeskierescue.com
