Story
My name is Oakley and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m a 2-y.o., 21-lb girl who came to my foster home here in Des Plaines, IL, from the commercial breeding facility where I was born. I’m still getting used to living in a home with humans so I am still shy and skittish. Foster mom says I have a very sweet nature. Once I get to know you, I really love a good chin rub! So far, my favorite thing to do here is playing in the securely fenced yard with my Shiba foster sister. I get so excited when it’s time to go out that I dance around and toss my head. I also like chew toys. I’m smart and very resourceful and will make my own chew toys with things that my foster family leaves within reach, so they put me in my kennel or other dog-proof area when they can’t supervise. But I promise I’m a good girl! I tolerate baths well. I’m quiet as a mouse in my kennel. But I do my part to keep the house safe - if I’m not crated, I will bark if I hear someone coming who might be an intruder! I’m learning to walk on a leash. I’m getting the hang of it, but still not sure I love it. My perfect forever home will be a calm one with no small kids – I’m scared of their sudden movements and squealy noises! My forever family should take careful precautions when opening doors or gates to avoid escapes, since like many Shibas, I can be a door-bolter. I’d love to have another nice dog friend to play with and to help show me the ropes. I haven’t met any cats or other small pets, but I’m probably not a good match for them since I chase and catch birds and bunnies in the yard. I am healthy - spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet and beautiful girl who will blossom with patience and love, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Milly and I’m looking for my forever home! I will be 13 in July, so I’ve been around the block a time or two, but I’ve stillgot lots of spunk and love and life and opinions left! What I’m looking for is simple: someone to love and take me for walks and rub my belly. I’d love a soft place to snooze and a window to sunbathe in and watch the world go by. I’m a lovebug and well-behaved in the house. I’m fully potty trained and not destructive. I may be small – only 15 lbs - but I’m not afraid to express my opinion (if you want to see my Drama Queen mode, try to trim my nails!). I came from a home where everything was fine until a tiny little human came along. This little human needed lots of attention from my people. The squealy, screamy noises and sudden movements and grabby hands freaked me out! My family tried to keep us separated, but they realized that I was sad. It wasn’t fair to me or to the little human, since we both needed love and attention. So that’s how I came to my foster home here in Chicago. I was scared at first of all the new things. There are other dogs here and I let them know right away that I wasn’t a push-over. While there were a few spats at first, things settled down once I got to know and trust them. I still get growly when I worry that they might take my food. But I like it here – I love going for walks in the neighborhood and curling up in bed at night with my foster mom. My perfect forever home will be a calm one with no small children (older, calm, respectful kids are fine). I haven’t lived with cats or small pets, but I like to chase squirrels and bunnies outside, so they might not be the best fit. Loud noises and lots of activity can make me nervous. If there are other dogs in the house, gradual supervised introductions would be best. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet and snuggly companion like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. Story
My name is Bud, and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 10 y.o. and weigh 28 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Joliet, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I helped make lots of puppies! But I’m retired now and learning about the good life! I’m still getting used to being loved and living with a family. My favorite thing so far is going for walks. That’s when I come alive! My tail is up and I take the lead so I can sniff every tree and hydrant to leave “pee-mail.” I love seeing other dogs on our walks and chasing after all the squirrels and birds. Because of this, my foster mom thinks that my forever home probably shouldn’t have cats or small pets. While I am happy to see other dogs, I prefer to avoid the humans. You’d feel the same if you came from the place where I lived! My foster mom is great, but it will take time for me to trust new humans. There are other dogs in my foster home and I sometimes hang out with them, but mostly I chill in my favorite bed away from the action. I love treats - all kinds - but string cheese is my favorite! I’m a good boy in the house when foster mom is away. I don’t need to be crated and I don’t get into mischief. I’m potty trained, but occasionally mark where another dog peed. I’m healthy – neutered and vaccinated. The vet found a mild heart murmur, but said it is no cause for concern. My perfect forever home will be a calm place where I have a spot to nap. Experience with shy/fearful dogs would really help and no little kids or cats, since I’m likely to be scared of kids and chase cats. My forever family should be vigilant to guard against escapes - extra careful around open doors or gates and any fenced yard must be very secure. I’m sneaky-smart and fast! If you live in the Midwest and want a shy, handsome gentleman like me to be your best Bud, then visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter.
