Story
My name is Oakley and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m a 2-y.o., 21-lb girl who came to my foster home here in Des Plaines, IL, from the commercial breeding facility where I was born. I’m still getting used to living in a home with humans so I am still shy and skittish. Foster mom says I have a very sweet nature. Once I get to know you, I really love a good chin rub! So far, my favorite thing to do here is playing in the securely fenced yard with my Shiba foster sister. I get so excited when it’s time to go out that I dance around and toss my head. I also like chew toys. I’m smart and very resourceful and will make my own chew toys with things that my foster family leaves within reach, so they put me in my kennel or other dog-proof area when they can’t supervise. But I promise I’m a good girl! I tolerate baths well. I’m quiet as a mouse in my kennel. But I do my part to keep the house safe - if I’m not crated, I will bark if I hear someone coming who might be an intruder! I’m learning to walk on a leash. I’m getting the hang of it, but still not sure I love it. My perfect forever home will be a calm one with no small kids – I’m scared of their sudden movements and squealy noises! My forever family should take careful precautions when opening doors or gates to avoid escapes, since like many Shibas, I can be a door-bolter. I’d love to have another nice dog friend to play with and to help show me the ropes. I haven’t met any cats or other small pets, but I’m probably not a good match for them since I chase and catch birds and bunnies in the yard. I am healthy - spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a sweet and beautiful girl who will blossom with patience and love, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Milly and I’m looking for my forever home! I will be 13 in July, so I’ve been around the block a time or two, but I’ve stillgot lots of spunk and love and life and opinions left! What I’m looking for is simple: someone to love and take me for walks and rub my belly. I’d love a soft place to snooze and a window to sunbathe in and watch the world go by. I’m a lovebug and well-behaved in the house. I’m fully potty trained and not destructive. I may be small – only 15 lbs - but I’m not afraid to express my opinion (if you want to see my Drama Queen mode, try to trim my nails!). I came from a home where everything was fine until a tiny little human came along. This little human needed lots of attention from my people. The squealy, screamy noises and sudden movements and grabby hands freaked me out! My family tried to keep us separated, but they realized that I was sad. It wasn’t fair to me or to the little human, since we both needed love and attention. So that’s how I came to my foster home here in Chicago. I was scared at first of all the new things. There are other dogs here and I let them know right away that I wasn’t a push-over. While there were a few spats at first, things settled down once I got to know and trust them. I still get growly when I worry that they might take my food. But I like it here – I love going for walks in the neighborhood and curling up in bed at night with my foster mom. My perfect forever home will be a calm one with no small children (older, calm, respectful kids are fine). I haven’t lived with cats or small pets, but I like to chase squirrels and bunnies outside, so they might not be the best fit. Loud noises and lots of activity can make me nervous. If there are other dogs in the house, gradual supervised introductions would be best. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet and snuggly companion like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Sammy and I’m looking for my forever home! I am a curious, smart, goofy, playful and sweet boy, around 7 y.o. I live in Munster, IN, with my foster family, but for most of my life I lived at a commercial breeding facility where I helped make puppies. Living in a home with humans is so much nicer! At first, I was shy and skittish around people, but then I learned that humans give belly rubs! OMG - what could be better? So now I follow them around everywhere. I haven't met any little humans so far, so I don't know how I'd react to them. There are other dogs here and I love to play with them. Foster dad says I'm a little bit bossy with them sometimes, but we get along well. I like being outside in the fenced yard, especially during bunny season! I've caught 3 of them so far and always on the lookout for more. Yep. I got the Shiba prey-drive gene! Because of this, I'm probably not a good match for a home with cats or other small pets. I’m learning so many new things here, like how to walk on a leash. Foster dad says I'll be a pro with a bit more practice. I’m potty trained and a good boy in the house. I will happily entertain myself with my favorite squeaky ball. I get a bit anxious if left all by myself, but if there are other dogs around, that helps a lot. My perfect forever home will have experience preventing escapes from open doors, gates or fences, since I'm always looking to chase more bunnies. I'd love to have a securely fenced yard and another dog to keep me company, but those are not required. I weigh 30 lbs and a healthy boy - neutered and vaccinated. The vet says that my kneecaps are a little bit loose. They don't bother me and the vet does not feel that I need surgery at this time. If you live in the Midwest and want a handsome fella like me to give belly rubs to, visit www.savingshibas.com for more info and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you so they can make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster dad so we can meet!

Story
My name is Merc and I’m looking for my forever home! I came to my foster home here in Evansville, IN, as a stowaway! My mom is a Shiba Inu who was a stray with a belly full of puppies. After we were born in October, SIRA tested us and learned that our dad was a Beagle/Coonhound mix. I am 19 lbs of good boy! I am a calm, laid-back puppy who loves belly rubs and cuddles. I have my goofy side, but I’m mostly just sweet. I am house trained and know how to use a pee pad if needed. When foster mom g, I am quiet in my crate or playpen. I don’t destroy anything. My favorite thing here is having other dogs to play with and keep me company. I’m gentle and never show aggression to them. There is a cat here and I’m friendly and respectful – I never pester. I like older kids – little kids scare me because I’m not used to them. I love car rides. Foster mom says I’m a smart boy because I have learned commands like “sit” and “lay.” I'm learning about leash walks too! Loud noises outside can scare me, but with practice and a familiar routine, I’ll get the hang of it. I am a healthy boy, neutered and vaccinated. I have a bump on my belly called a histiocytoma. It sounds scary, but it’s harmless and should clear up soon. I had a rough start to life – an infection, kidney problems, and anemia! But I’m healthy now! As a result, I’m calmer than most puppies my age. I’m also shy, like my Shiba mama. New environments and loud noises like thunder scare me. My perfect forever home will have time to spend with me and a securely fenced yard and a nice dog to keep me company. No small kids, please, but older ones are fine. I’ll do best in a home that doesn’t share walls with neighbors, since I can be vocal at mealtime. If you understand shy/skittish dogs, that would be awesome. If you live in the Midwest and want a sweet, snuggly boy like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet! I’d like that very much.
