Story
My name is Mango and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m still a puppy – I’ll turn 1 y.o. in December. I came to my foster home here in Quincy, IL, from a commercial breeding facility where I was born. I’m a cautious, curious and goofy little girl. My Shiba spunk is starting to emerge – I get impatient when there’s something between me and what I want and have been known to hop right over one of the other dogs if they’re in my way. I’m a smart girl and learn quickly. Like most Shiba puppies, I love to chew EVERYTHING - sometimes things that aren’t meant for chewing (like furniture and pencils). I’m almost completely potty trained – only an occasional accident if I don’t tell foster mom that I need to go outside. I love to play with the other dogs here in my foster home and go for leash walks in the neighborhood with the other dogs. I’m still learning good leash manners (sometimes I zig-zag and get the leashes all tangled up), but foster mom says I’ll be a pro with more practice. I’m shy at first with other dogs. I haven’t met any cats, but I like to chase birds and squirrels in the yard, so I’m not sure if I’d be a good match for small pets. I haven’t met any little kids, but there are teenagers here in my foster home and I like them. I’m timid around people I don’t know – especially men or groups - I’ll usually hide. I go to foster mom or to the teenage girl when I want attention and affection. My perfect forever family will have patience and experience with puppy antics and shy/fearful dogs. I’d love to have a nice resident dog to play with and to help me continue to learn and blossom. My forever family should be careful to guard against escapes, since I’m good at squirting out open doors. I’d love to have a securely fenced yard to play in and to continue my training so I grow up to be a well-mannered and confident adult. I’m a healthy girl – spayed, vaccinated, and I weigh 18 lbs. If you live in the Midwest and want a pretty girl like me to join your family, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home environment so they can tell if we’ll be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
My name is Travey and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m just over 1 y.o. and I weigh 23 lbs. I came to my foster home in the Chicago area after I got loose, had a bit of a mis-adventure, and ended up in doggie jail. I haven't been at my foster home long, so I'm still adjusting. I love getting love and attention from foster mom and my favorite place to sleep is in bed with her! I'm super smart, eager to please, and learn quickly. I'm potty trained and do well in my crate when foster mom goes out (though I've been known to deploy the "Shiba scream" if I'm left all alone). I love treats, which helps motivate me to learn. I have mastered leash walking. I might pull if I see a squirrel or bunny that I want to chase (I've definitely got a high prey drive). I've also learned how to jump over gates that are supposed to contain me, so my forever family will need to be careful to prevent escapes. I'm a curious girl, but new things are hard for me. I'm suspicious of new people and will bark at them. I can be reactive to other dogs when I'm out on walks. I'll be fiercely loyal to my family and will need humans who have time to focus on me too. Because I did not have a great upbringing, I'll need a patient forever family who will commit to training and teaching me how to become a well-adjusted adult. My ideal forever home will be one with a securely fenced yard - no shared walls, since I can be vocal. I'd do best in a home with no cats or small pets, since I've got a high prey drive. I get along with most of the other dogs in my foster home, but can be dog-selective, so a laid-back, easy going dog friend would be best. Foster mom thinks I'd do okay with older children once I get to know them, but I'm not a good match for really little kids. I'm a healthy girl - spayed and vaccinated. I had giardia when I came into foster care, but am recovering nicely and feeling fine. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a best friend and diamond in the rough, then I'm your girl. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you to make sure we'll be a good match. Once approved, they'll introduce you to my foster mom so we can meet.

Story
My name is Roxy and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 5 y.o. and weigh 30 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Des Plaines, IL, after my person died. That was so hard, but thanks to SIRA, I’m happy again and my goofy side is on full display. I love attention from my foster family. I’ll lay on my back and paddle my paws in the air for a belly rub. I’m not shy – I love saying hi to strangers. If I am not getting enough adoration, I’ll boop you with my nose and grumble at you to PAY ATTENTION TO MEEE!!! I’m patient and gentle with little kids. I sometimes get excited and jump up on my hind legs, so my foster mom says I’ll do best with humans who are steady on their feet and not easily knocked over. I’m a good girl in the house – no potty accidents or destruction. I love to play with other dogs! I’m friendly, but like most Shibas, I play rough, so my dog sibling should be able to handle my energy. I love to chase critters in the yard, so I’m not a good match for cats or small pets. I’ll chase anything that moves – especially blowing leaves! I’m obsessed. I enjoy leash walks, but foster mom says I could use some training since I pull. Like many Shibas, I’m a door bolter, so my forever family should guard against escapes (baby gates help keep me from squirting out of open doors). I’m healthy – spayed and vaccinated. I have a skin allergy, which is managed well with medication and diet. My perfect forever family will have another playful and energetic dog to be my friend, no cats/small pets, and I’d do best in a home with no shared walls, since I’m vocal. If you’re looking for a someone who’ll be your shadow (especially if there’s food around), then I’m your girl! Foster mom says I'll make someone really happy. If you live in the Midwest and are interested, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt for more information and to apply to become an approved SIRA adopter. Story
My name is Rumor and I’m looking for my forever home. I’m 3 ½ years old and I weigh 20 lbs. I came to my foster home here in Chicago from a breeding facility where I was born. I’m still getting used to living in a home, so I can be skittish and shy, especially with people I don’t know or around sudden movements or noises. But as I relax, my silly side is coming out and I’ve started to chase my tail and to hoard toys in my crate. I’ve learned the routine here pretty quickly. I am potty trained and stay in my crate when foster mom leaves the house. I like eating meals in my crate too. I let foster mom pet me now that I trust her. There are other dogs here in my foster home and they have helped me to feel safe, like when we’re out walking in the neighborhood. Busy streets and loud cars scare me, but walking close to the other dogs helps. I’m very interested in chasing squirrels, so foster mom thinks that I’m probably not a good match for cats or small pets unless they are dog-savvy. My perfect forever home will understand shy/fearful dogs and have at least one other friendly dog to help me continue to adjust. I’m not a good match for little kids. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and vaccinated. Story
Banjo is a sweet, loving pup who enjoys playing and running. He’s friendly, good natured, and gets along well with kids. Training: Banjo is pad-trained, so he’s great at using a designated indoor bathroom spot—perfect for apartment living or busy schedules! He knows several commands as he was trained while he was a puppy (but may have forgotten several commands since we don't normally use some of them). Ideal Home: Banjo would thrive in a home where he can enjoy companionship and have space to play. Whether you're looking for a snuggle buddy or a playful friend, he’s ready to bring joy to his new family. Rehoming Reason: Due to a change in living circumstances (having young children), we’re looking for a loving new home for Banjo where he can get the attention he deserves.

Story
Tara, a purebred Shiba Inu with an orange coat, aged four years. She was born on an Amish farm and came to us at two months old, raised with love and care. Tara is an incredibly active, kind, and attentive dog. She's an excellent guard: calm at home, but active on walks and shows hunting instincts, catching hares. She has excellent health and appetite. She is looking for a new family who can give her enough time, attention, and ensure active walks. She gets along with other dogs, she is vaccinations , and is not spayed. She is an amazingly responsive and affectionate dog, whose heart is full of love, and she's ready to share it every day Unfortunately, due to a busy schedule, I am looking for new owners who will be able to qive her more time and attention than am able to
