Story
Ziggy is exactly the kind of dog people dream about when they say they want a “Doodle” - big, fluffy, and full of personality. But Ziggy’s story is a little more complicated than the picture-perfect version. This handsome Golden Doodle came to us as a stray, and surprisingly, no one ever came looking for him. It’s hard to imagine, because Ziggy clearly once belonged somewhere. He’s a big boy - likely with some Standard Poodle in his background - and he has that classic Doodle charm: friendly, curious, and eager to be part of the action.Ziggy is sweet, no question about it. He enjoys people and wants to connect, but he hasn’t quite learned his manners yet. At his size, that matters. He can be a bit bouncy and unaware of just how big he is, so he’s looking for a home without small children and with someone willing to put in the time to help him become the well-mannered companion he’s meant to be.And let’s talk about that coat - because Ziggy’s tells a story of its own. Someone clearly tried to groom him at home, and while the effort was there, Doodle coats are not low-maintenance. They require regular, professional grooming and consistent care to keep them comfortable and healthy. Ziggy will need a family who understands that commitment and is ready to keep him looking and feeling his best.Ziggy isn’t perfect - but he is full of potential. With structure, patience, and a little training, this big, lovable guy is going to shine. If you’re someone who understands that a great dog is built, not just found, Ziggy might be exactly the one you’ve been waiting for.

He is cautious around new dogs, so he would need a slow introduction if there are other dogs in the home      When Fozzie Howie was rescued, he was in pretty rough shape and desperately needed a good grooming (be sure to check out his video). Luckily, he has since enjoyed a much-deserved spa day, and underneath all that fur was one very handsome—and very happy—fella. Now that he’s cleaned up and feeling like his fabulous self again, Fozzie Howie is ready to focus on what really matters:  finding a forever home and family who will love him, keep him looking sharp, and give him the safe, happy life he deserves. Could that home be yours?     Apply today—Fozzie Howie is ready to meet you and start his happily-ever-after. Your pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. K-9 Lifesavers will also cover the cost of spay/neuter at our partner vet at 6 months of age or reimburse adopter for up to the amount of our partner vet cost should you choose to spay/neuter at your own vet.Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/ or email our Foster Coordinator at foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSPONSOR ME! Help Save Lives!    Make a tax-deductible donation today and help save a life. Story
Meet Flossy Can you imagine spending seven years bringing life into the world, litter after litter, puppy after puppy, never once having someone love you back? Never having a soft bed that was yours, a person who was yours, a moment that was simply and completely yours? That was Flossy's life. Seven years as a breeding mom, giving everything and receiving so little in return. She is done with that chapter now. And the dog emerging on the other side of it is something truly worth knowing. Flossy is seven years old and she is learning, one careful step at a time, that humans can be kind and safe. She never learned that before and so she is taking nothing for granted. She tends to warm more naturally to men and has a special fondness for her foster dad, which makes complete sense for a girl who spent her life in circumstances that gave her little reason to trust. Her foster mom does everything for her and Flossy is still working on fully letting her in, which is a good reminder that love on Flossy's terms is the only kind that counts and it is worth every moment of patience it requires. She is sweet and gentle and has a quiet affection that reveals itself in her own time and in her own way. She loves to be close to her people, curled up on the couch or tucked into a bed beside someone she trusts. She can use a crate but she is happiest when she has the freedom to roam and choose her own spot, which is usually as close to her humans as she can get on her own terms. She does an absolutely adorable little circle dance at mealtimes and takes treats with the most gentle softness you have ever felt. She is in there, warm and loving and real, and she is coming forward more every day. She does need to be approached with warning and care, particularly when being picked up. She is learning that hands that reach for her mean safety and kindness, but that is a new concept for Flossy and she needs a home that will honor that with patience and consistency. Flossy is on anxiety medication as she works through the big feelings that come with a life like hers. She needs a secure fence without exception as she is a flight risk outdoors. She thrives in a quiet home away from city noise, quick movements, and the unpredictability of young children. A confident and gentle dog companion in the home would help her feel more settled and secure. She needs an experienced and deeply patient adopter who understands that some dogs arrive already loving you, and some dogs arrive having to learn what love even is. Flossy is the second kind. And the person who earns her trust is going to receive something extraordinary in return. She spent 7 years giving everything she had to a world that gave her very little back. She deserves a home that changes that completely and forever.

Story
Current Location: Alexandria, VA Meet Dina: A Soft-Hearted Doodle Mix Ready to Bond Deeply with You Dina is a 3 year old, 60 pound doodle mix with a soft heart and an even softer desire to bond deeply with her person. Once she decides you're her human, she becomes a total Velcro dog, happy to follow you around, lean in for affection, and soak up every bit of love you offer. Smart and Well-Trained Dina is both crate trained and potty trained, and she already knows an impressive list of cues: sit, paw, crate, leave it, place, gentle, and wait. She's treat motivated, eager to learn, and already improving her leash manners. She's working on loose leash walking, recall, and polite doorway behavior, showing just how capable and willing she is to be the best companion she can be. Joyful Explorer Outdoors, Dina is a joyful explorer who loves zoomies, crunching icy snow chunks, and trotting around the yard, even when the ground is slippery. She's resilient, curious, and always ready for the next adventure. She's been appropriate with other dogs she's met and shows curiosity, but no reactivity, toward wildlife like birds and squirrels. Building Trust Dina can be cautious with new people. But with patience, calm energy, and a few tossed treats, she warms up beautifully, sometimes within minutes. Once she realizes someone is safe, she transforms into a snuggly, affectionate companion who paws gently for more pets. Watching her personality blossom is one of the most rewarding experiences you'll have. Best Home Fit This sweet girl thrives with structure, reassurance, and a person who understands that confidence takes time. In return, she'll offer unwavering loyalty, endless affection, and the joy of watching her grow into the confident, loving companion she's meant to be. If you're looking for a loving, devoted companion who just wants to feel safe and cherished, Dina may be your perfect match. Apply today!

Story
Meet Ryker! 🐾 Ryker has been with us for just a few days, and he’s already making wonderful progress settling into home life. He came in a bit shy and nervous at first, but it didn’t take long for his true personality to start shining through—and it’s a good one! This handsome pup is playful, active, and full of fun energy, making him a great match for an active family that can keep up with his zest for life. He loves exploring the house and the yard, chewing on his favorite goodies like Benebones, peanut butter filled Kongs, Milk Bone biscuits, and curling up for a cozy snuggle with his people—he loves to snuggle! Ryker is doing really well with other dogs and has been learning a lot from his foster siblings. He enjoys their company and would likely benefit from having a confident dog friend in his forever home. He does, however, form strong attachments to his people and shows some separation anxiety—he prefers to be wherever you are! He’s making steady progress with potty training. He stays accident-free overnight but will need consistent trips outside during the day as he continues to learn. Ryker is typically crated only when left alone for his own safety, but he’s not a big fan of it and can become anxious—he does much better when he’s near his humans or foster siblings. Ryker is a sweet, silly boy with a lot of love to give. If you’re looking for a loyal, playful companion who will keep you smiling and stay close by your side, Ryker just might be your perfect match. 💛
