Story
Maomao is a Shih Tzu. She grew up with me since I bought her in Eastvale, CA when she was 2 months old. She is now 5 years old. I would describe her as docile, timid, and spaced-out. It is a low-energy commitment to take care of her. She only understands Mandarin Chinese and Sichuanese dialect, because those are the languages I use with her. She likes to play fetch with you, and she can even play with the ball by herself. She prefers soft balls. She enjoys tummy rubs. On walks, she does not get distracted by smells or other dogs and stays by your heel. But she doesn't like to run if you want to run. Unfortunately, she is not perfectly potty trained. She seems to have an issue in her right eye that doesn't affect her vision. She currently has ear infections which are improving with medication.

Story
This is Charlie. He’s a 2-year-old, 13-pound Maltipoo with the softest curls and the biggest, bravest heart—one that’s still learning how to feel safe. Charlie was found alone in the desert. Abandoned. No explanation. No goodbye. Just fear, heat, and survival. Thankfully, he was rescued and brought to Del Mar Dog Rescue, where he’s been for the past three months learning that the world doesn’t always hurt. But healing isn’t linear—and for Charlie, it’s slow and tender. Charlie is very fearful of people, especially men. Loud voices, fast movements, unfamiliar energy—they overwhelm him. He doesn’t growl. He doesn’t snap. He doesn’t show aggression at all. Instead, he freezes. He hides. He waits for the danger to pass. Charlie is not difficult—he is deeply scared. His safe place? Our sofa. That’s where Charlie feels brave enough to breathe. On the sofa, he allows gentle pets. On the sofa, he lets himself be picked up. On the sofa, he shows glimpses of the dog he wants to be—sweet, curious, affectionate, quietly hopeful. That couch has become his sanctuary, his reminder that softness still exists. What Charlie needs now is not fixing. Not forcing. Not “training it out of him.” What Charlie needs is understanding. We are searching for a very specific kind of home for him: • An older woman with a calm, gentle presence • No men, no children • A quiet home with another friendly dog he can bond with and learn from • Someone patient enough to let Charlie set the pace • Someone who believes that love doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful Charlie thrives around other dogs. They help him feel safe. They show him what trust looks like. A canine companion will be essential for his confidence and emotional growth. This adoption is not about instant cuddles or overnight transformation. It’s about sitting nearby. Speaking softly. Respecting boundaries. Celebrating the smallest victories—one step forward, one brave moment at a time. Charlie may never be the dog who runs up to strangers. But he will be loyal. He will love deeply. And he will trust the person who chooses him for exactly who he is. If you are someone who understands fear, who values gentleness, who can offer consistency, calm, and unconditional love—Charlie might be waiting for you. He survived the desert. Now he deserves a home. Please share Charlie’s story. The right person is out there—and when they find him, it will change his life forever.

Story
Meet handsome Toto. He is approximately 4 yrs old and 18 lbs. Toto was found on the streets with no ID tag and his owners couldn't be located. He was taken to the vet for check up, vaccinations, deworming, neutering and teeth cleaning. Since his rescue Toto has been living with a foster family. He is housetrained and behaves very well, not destructive. He is very friendly with other dogs, and loves to play, therefore a family with another active and playful dog would be a big plus! He also loves to go out on walks. He is very loving to people and likes to hang out with his human. He also likes kids, but we recommend kids 8+ yrs old as Toto is playful. He gets along with cats but he likes to chase them (in a playful way). This boy deserves to be adopted by a responsible loving family, if interested please submit your application at www.drwb.org
