Story
Shelton is guessed to be a 10+ yr old Shih Tzu mix. This sweet boy sadly came to us with his sister, Goldie, after their owner recently passed away and they had no where to go. They are super SWEET, good with calm dogs, house trained and don’t require much (but a warm home and a small yard area to explore). Shelton is partially blind, but he doesn't let that stop him from enjoying love, comfort, and companionship. Senior dogs have so much love to give, and deserve to spend their golden years in a warm, loving home instead of a shelter. 💕 🐾 Please consider these sweet seniors! They are waiting in Broomfield, CO

PRANCING PANDA This adorable little senior furball only wants two things: 1) to lay by your feet, and 2) to PRANCE across a grassy field! When Panda arrived, we thought she was just a frail, blind Shih Tzu. But with a healthy diet, lots of love, and daily walks, she's rediscovered her joy — and gets more tail-waggy every day. Panda is mostly blind and mostly deaf, but that doesn't stop her from staying glued to your side and happily trotting along in the yard or on walks. She's housebroken, quiet, docile, a great eater, and an even better sleeper (through the night, every night!). She's also a surprisingly fantastic leash walker. Panda is indifferent to other dogs and cats and isn't much of a player — though that could change with time and patience. Panda would thrive in a home looking for a chill cuddle buddy with yard or park access. She's not a match for an active household with young kids, and she needs daily eye drops for glaucoma. She may whine in her crate at first, but with a little crate training, she settles in and sleeps soundly on her own. If you want the joy of earning love by giving love, Panda is the galloping gal for you. Apply at eapl.com — adoption fee $375 October 31, 2026, 8:15 am

Story
Beau and Lulu are siblings who came to us from an elderly adopter who was moving into a senior living facility which did not allow pets. They have always been extremely well cared for and loved, however were not well socialized with lots of different people. They are a bonded pair and must go to a home together. They are 100% housetrained and love to take long walks. They are good on a leash and come with a leash in which they are linked together. Beau and Lulu would love to find a home in which they are the only pets in the home. They are extremely athletic and have a prey drive with small animals. They will definitely keep the squirrels out of the yard. They are both extremely loving and love to be on your lap or next to you. They bond quickly with new people and done very well in the 2 different foster homes. The reason they would be best as the only pets is they are very protective of one another and while there have no incidents in either of the foster homes with other dogs, they are currently in a foster home with a blind reactive dog who can be aggressive when startled by another animal. The foster has always been there to de-escalate before it becomes problematic. These two would do great with an active family who has older children who understand how to treat pets. They are both very strong and could easily knock a small child over when they get excited. They are both current on all vaccinations including lepto and rabies and both have had a dental within the past year. They

Story
Lulu is a 5+ year old spay female Shih Tzu mix who is bonded with her brother Beau. They came to CJCR from an elderly owner who was moving into a senior living facility which did not allow pets. Beau and Lulu have always been well cared for and loved, however were not socialized with lots of different people. They do not shed and require daily grooming. They are initially shy with strangers, however, will quickly bond to the people in the home. They would love to have a family that is active and can take them on long walks. They would make excellent jogging dogs. The owner was told that they were Japanese Chin/Shih Tzu mixes. We can definitely see the Shih Tzu, but feel that there is zero chance that they have any Chin in them. Due to the athletic ability of the dogs, we suspect there may poodle in the mix. They do no shed and will require regular grooming. The would be best in a home where they are the only pets. They both have a strong prey drive with small animals and are obsessed with chasing squirrels and bunnies. They are mostly quiet with the exception of someone around that they don't know or another animal in the area. They are very loving and loyal and would love to find a forever home.

Story
Meet Scout! This poor puppy has been through more than a 1 year old dog should but he is such a sweet little boy. This boy has such a big heart, and is a total love bug once he learns that he is safe! Scout is a 1 year old, 13 lb Shih Tzu / Poodle mix. (His foster thinks he may be more like 10 months - 1 year old). Farfel's can't swear to the accuracy of his breed mix as no DNA test was done. It was the opinion of New Mexico veterinarians and we're going to stay with their educated guess. Scout was picked up as a stray in New Mexico and he was extremely matted. When they shaved his matted hair off, they saw that his left eye was bulging out of its socket, and unfortunately it could not be saved. Understandably, he was confused getting picked up off the streets, going into a scary shelter, and loosing an eye. But he has been adjusting very well since getting to Colorado, and into foster care. Scout can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he is never rude or aggressive at all. He is such a lover boy at heart and when he warms up to you he turns into a total puppy!! He is the sweetest, silliest boy ever (coming from his foster who loves him SO MUCH!) We learned that having a friendly dog buddy in the home makes a huge difference for this sweet boy! We’ve seen firsthand just how much and how fast Scout blossoms in a home with another dog, and how slow and nervous he is in a home without another dog. In a foster home with a dog friend, Scout warmed up to his foster mom and her husband in just a day or 2. He loves playing with and snuggling up to his foster's dog, and quickly became a much happier, more confident little guy. Having another dog around helps Scout feel safe and gives him a friend to show him the ropes while he learns to trust his new people. Because we’ve seen how much having a doggy friend helps him feel comfortable and secure, Scout will need a home with another friendly, welcoming dog. We are not willing to put Scout's comfortability aside and adopt him to a home without another dog. From Scout's foster: * * * * "Scout started off super shy, but warmed up so fast. And by started off shy, I really just mean he was a bit hesitant of me. The second he got home and saw my dogs, he RAN out of his crate and straight to my dogs. Oh my gosh, he LOVES my dogs!!! He MUST go to a home with another PLAYFUL dog. Scout has total young dog / puppy energy and love love loves to play with my dogs! He took a few days to really warm up to us humans in the home - he is still a little stiff if I pick him up, but he got comfortable pretty fast and even loves to snuggle and fall asleep with his head on my lap. He NEVER even from day 1 showed ANY signs of aggression. I could pick him up and he didn't love it (like it just scared him) but he never tried to nip or anything. He is such a pure heart baby! After a few days, he was very very settled and his personality came right out! He is definitely a young dog, and a total puppy! Loves to play, loves toys, if you give him your hand to play with he will gnaw on it like a puppy but will happily take a toy instead. He LOVES toys - all kinds! He is totally crate trained and sleeps in his crate quietly at night (though I think he would love to sleep in bed if you let him). He does stay in his crate when we leave the house, but we left him loose last time we ran errands and he did totally fine so definitely does not need the crate! He picked up the potty training fast and while I wouldn't say he is fully potty trained yet, he is certainly almost there! By day 3 he felt comfortable following me and my dogs outside to our yard to potty. The first few days I carried him out with us and had him on a leash, but after a few days he wanted to follow us out! He has literally 1 pee accident a day, maybe, and that's all. But he never marks!! Thank god! And he poops outside every time! I even was telling him this morning to come back inside with us because everyone else was done and going inside and he looked at me, looked back at the yard, then went poop before coming inside. He's such a good boy!!! Oh - and come to think of it, I have never heard him bark!! Have not heard a peep out of this dog (yet)! We learned today, after about a week with this sweetie that he might prefer his main person to be a female. When I'm home he's not nervous anymore, and doesn't act skittish with my husband, but I left him home with my husband (and dogs) the other day while I went to work and he was super nervous all day with my husband, until I got home! He comes to work with me now (and does great!) but maybe his primary person should be a female, as he warms up faster and is more comfortable with us. Though I am sure with time he will learn to warm up when alone with my (or anyone's) husband, haha. So give Scout a few days to really warm up. He can be a bit nervous about human touch that's not on his terms until he's warmed up. Also if you reach for him or pet him from his blind side you may startle him. But you will not regret being a bit patient the first few days once this absolute silly sweetheart comes out of his shell!" * * * * This sweet guy, with a gorgeous shed-free coat (excellent for those with allergy concerns ) will require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming and excellent nutrition. Current research is very clear that the best diet we can provide for our pets is a fresh, human grade natural diet. Farfel's recommends Chi Diet (chidog.com) due to our personal experience with our own dogs. It's one of the most important choices we make for our dogs great health and longevity. Since Scout is just a young guy, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome and loving best friend. Scout will form firm bonds with his family and learn socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a young dog's ultimate behavior and in his relationship / bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment, yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Scout out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area. Because Scout is a bit unsure and learning to trust, though he is a sweet boy, we know that he would be too overwhelmed in a home with kids. Scout will be up to date on his vetting / vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support Farfel's commitment to a euthanasia - free future in the canine population. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet as can be pup. An adoption application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Scout, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Story
Animal Rescue of the Rockies believes every pet should find a wonderful and caring home. To ensure Chris #1 finds the best possible home, we ask you fill out our adoption application so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 72 hours  (please check your spam folder for our emails) .   Chris #1 | 5-year-old Chihuahua mix | Your tiny, sweet shadow Chris is a tiny 5.5-pound Chihuahua mix with a huge personality and an even bigger love for his people. He is a sweet, affectionate little guy who loves being held, snuggled, and covered up like the tiny king he believes he is. He can be nervous and easily startled, especially around new people, but once he has a few minutes to warm up, his sweet personality comes shining through. Chris is still working on leash skills and can bark at people, dogs, and things like wheeled objects that catch him off guard. He is improving with practice and enjoys short walks, but he would benefit from a patient person who can continue helping him build confidence. He does well with the dogs in his foster home, including both larger and smaller dogs, although he can be vocal when meeting dogs on leash. He absolutely cannot live with cats, as he will chase them and try to attack them. Chris is still figuring out his potty routine, especially since he was sick when he first arrived. He is doing much better now that he feels better and seems to do well when given regular potty breaks. He may need a nighttime potty break and currently wears a belly band to help prevent marking or accidents. Like any dog adjusting to a new environment, accidents can happen while he settles into a new routine. Chris's biggest challenge is being left alone. He does eventually settle when crated, but he can bark, whine, cry, and thrash around when first left. For this reason, he would do best with someone who is home much of the time or can take him along for the day. He is a low-to-medium energy guy who enjoys short walks but is happiest snuggled up with his person. He loves treats, squeaky toys, bones, car rides, and plenty of affection. Chris would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a tiny sidekick who wants to be part of everything. He could be an only dog with plenty of human companionship or potentially enjoy having a confident, playful dog friend. He needs a cat-free home and would likely do best with older, calm children who understand that he can be easily startled. Give this little guy some patience, love, and time to feel secure, and you'll have a devoted little shadow who is very happy to be wherever you are.   If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives!  A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you.  The adoption fee for this pet is $400. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog.  Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking  here . Please give us 72 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogs@arrcolorado.org for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE:  The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter.  Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets.  Here is some interesting info on breed identification:  https://arrcolorado.org/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online.  We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting.  Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!
