What makes Lilo special: People-loving personality - She's a true companion who thrives on human connection and will happily cuddle in your lap all day long Great with other dogs - Lilo gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes, from a gentle 130 lb mastiff to playful smaller pups. Wrestling and chase are her favorite games! Smart and spirited - Don't let those short legs fool you! This clever girl is athletic and adventurous Walking buddy - She loves her daily walks and would be thrilled to explore the neighborhood with you What Lilo needs: Lilo would do best in a home where someone is around frequently, as she forms strong bonds with her people. She's still learning her manners and house training (she's making great progress!), so a patient family who can continue her training would be ideal. Lilo is curious about her fosters' cat. Story
I'm Valentina. I was found running loose on February 13, 2026. I'm waiting to see if my people come get me. They have until the 19th. In the meantime, you are welcome to apply to adopt me. I'm a cutie and super sweet. Hopefully my owners will find me, but if not - - I'll be the love of someone's life! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2660059##

Story
Halo is a 4 year old, 20lb Shih Tzu.  Halo was surrendered from his owners becayse she had a lot of dogs and wanted to downsize.  Halo is the cutest little boy who is missing half his jaw, so his little tongue hangs out of his mouth all the time - it might be the cutest thing ever! Halo is the cutest little man with a big personality.  Halo loves to snuggle and hang out with his foster Momma.  He gets along with other dogs and is great on a leash.  He is pretty well trained and listens well.  Halo is also a pretty stubborn little man.   For some people this big personality is hilarous and they adore everything about him, everybody who meets him laughs at him and falls in love instantly.  He loves to cuddle and hang out and go for walks/wander around the back yard.  He is a non shedding dog so he will need someone who can get him regular grooming appointments.  If you are looking for an adorable little dog, with a tongue hanging out all the time, and a big personality Halo is your man! If you are interested in adopting little Halo, please fill out our adoption application at brighterdaysdogrescue.com ##2234207##

Story
Aretha is a 2-3 year old maybe Shih Tzu/Havanese(?) mix weighing about 14lbs.  Aretha was found dirty, matted, and wandering the streets of Texas.  One of our wonderful partners brought her in, in hopes of finding her family, but unfortnately they never came looking for her.  The area she was found in has tons of stray dogs, so it's not surpriging nobody was looking for her :(. She was cleaned up, shaved, and put into a safe and loving foster home until she could be transferred to CO.  Once she made the trip here she was checked out by our vets again, and officially cleared for adoption!   Aretha's foster said she is a super sweet and easy girl.  She is more laid back and super gentle with the other dogs, kids, and cats in her foster home.  She loves to be around people and snuggle up next to her fosters on the couch.  She seems to be potty trained (although we cannot guarantee it) and is a smart little girl.  She is just a wonderful little dog and will be a great addition to any family.   If you are interested in adopting Aretha, please fill out our adoption application at brighterdaysdogrescue.com ##2646850##

Story
Betsy is a 1-2 year old Shih Tzu (we think purbred but are not sure) weighing about 11lbs.  Betsy was found as a stray and brought to an overcrowded shelter with almost zero foot traffic, in Texas.  Unfortunately nobody ever came looking for little Betsy.  We were asked to bring her to CO since adoption in that area were very few and far between.  Betsy was then cleaned up, shaved, and fully vetted.   Betsy has been in CO in our foster program for a couple weeks now and is ready to find her forever family.  She is a sweet, sweet little girl with a happy, super loving personality.  She loves to play with the fosters other dogs.  She still has some of her young adult/puppy energy but is also great at cuddling up with the fosters and her kids during down time.  She loves to snuggle and be close to her humans.  She is the perfect mixture of being an easy going cuddle bug, and also a happy-go-lucky, fun little girl.   If you are interested in adopting Betsy, please fill out our adoption application at brighterdaysdogrescue.com ##2646885##

Story
Snuggles arrives in Colorado Saturday 2/7/2026 and needs a committed foster home or adopter to welcome him! You usually associate Snuggles with sleep and relaxing, but this boy is very energetic! His rescuers fave thing about him- he doesn’t need another dog to play. If he has his toys, he will run into the yard and toss toys for himself. He loves being outdoors, it can be hard to get him inside. He sunbathes. He loves other dogs and kids. When you pick him up, he paddle his little legs likes he's swimming It would be just plain cruel if Snuggles wasn't also a... snuggler. Snuggles is crate trained, doesn’t potty in crate, but does need to go straight outside to potty- he's about 80% there. Snuggles is currently living in a foster home in San Antonio, Texas, awaiting an adopter or open foster home in Colorado to bring him up and into their home! ***Snuggles is being posted on behalf of our partner rescue in Texas- the process and adoption will go through them. The adoption fee does not include the transport fee (usually $125-200/dog).*** Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2651402##
